It's certainly been a long road for Neural, but it is indeed running internally now. The post is more about many vendors (let's take UA if you don't want Neural) porting their plugins to run natively. Fractal did it with Reverb so clearly, it's possible.

I always felt like Universal Audio with their Apollos and expansion hardware units could have turned into a competitor but they don't seem interested in going that direction. Not suggesting the hardware expansions that UA has done are the right path for Fractal but it does seem like the Axe...

First week with FM3 - What I hear on Youtube is just not true

Capture is a great capability. You don't capture all the amps you want - someone else does. A unit with both modeling and profiling is valuable in the QC case. That said, I think the Axe-Fx models/effects are quite far ahead of the QC. Would love an Axe3 in the QC footprint/layout.

How do you rate Axe-Fx 3 effects vs Eventide and other high end stuff?

So, an H9 is a good addition to an FM-3 board but otherwise not needed - the Axe is plenty good enough.

One FC-6 foot switch does nothing

So, one of my FC-6 switches doesn't do anything whether it is mapped to a scene toggle, looper functions, anything. The others all work ok. Any suggestions on what to check? Thanks, Dan

I had a Sobering Experience Last Night

This overall matches what I have seen - when one guitarist is playing a modeler (even the best one around) and the other has a cranked tube amp, the difference is very noticeable. As a guitarist and an audience member.

I/O question

It's an interesting question - I also have an 18i20 and was considering the same thing. Focusrite control is really useful with setting the mixes for mic'd amps, an OX1, and also my outputs from the Axe-Fx. Not sure if the III will have all that functionality but would love to see it.

Decisions....tube or solid state power amp?

I really liked the VHT 2/90/2 I had for live use - sounded great and left power amp sims on in the Axe-Fx. Got a Matrix because of the weight but the tone compared unfavorably to the Fryette so I got rid of it. Now running the Carvin power amp previously mentioned and it is great. A neutral...

Right, using the FX Loop outs because I don't want the cab block when going to the power amp and cab....I will try these suggestions this weekend and post back. I believe I have the Channel 2 L/R to the Fryette and channel 1 to FOH now. Thanks, Dan

Axe into DAW

I ended up moving to a focusrite scarlett 18i20 audio interface (USB) to the DAW. The the Axe outputs come into that. This allows one to take mic'd amps, dry guitar signal, Axe-Fx modeling output and record any or all of them at the same time. Much happier this way and a lot of flexibility.

Wah/Global Block question

So, I have a Wah (Clyde/Autoengage) set up on a preset. Works great and expected. I added this global block to a different preset and the behavior is completely different. Has a cocked wah sound and doesn't engage. I'm sure it is simple....but what am I missing here? Thanks, Dan

Looper won't come out of Bypass Mode

Have a similar issue not being able to consistently engage the looper.....don't really have ax8 running when playing live so here's hoping that the next firmware upgrade fixes this.

Power amp suggestions

For me, the Fryette sounds better than the Matrix (bedroom and live volumes). I leave the power amp modeling on in the Axe. Love the idea of something with less weight but the Matrix seems noticeably flat in comparison. Still good of course and maybe not noticeable if you aren't comparing side...

Strat John Mayer-esque tones, different gain stages

So, these are some great sounding patches. I like to run both out 1 and out 2 (through a Fryette 2.90.2) so need to insert an FX Loop somewhere....Any advice on how to adapt a patch like this to be able to go direct as well as to a power amp/cab at the same time? Thanks, Dan

Yeah it would be a lot of stuff but it could get far with just receiving a list of parameters, their type, and their range. Not suggesting it would work for everything but the basic amp screen and amp types being dynamic would minimize a lot of the questions that occur after a firmware update...

So, this has never made complete sense to me.....the trailing Axe-Edit version that needs updates for a new firmware version. Is it not possible for Axe-Edit to read the list of Amps from the Axe-Fx II as well as their configurable parameters?

Looper Usage

So, trying to use the Looper for the 1st time...Not to test preset/amp changes but to start a rhythm section that can be solo'd over. I tend to use both Out 1 and Out 2 ( 1 with cab sims on and 1 without) Is a good routing all effects->Amp->effects->Looper->Cab and Looper->FxLoop? Seems...

Thanks Guys. It's a PRS McCarty with 57/08 pickups Axe setup is very simple with Studio Compressor, Jazz 120, Medium Hall Reverb, 2x12 Doubleverb D120 (RW) Cab Not usually the stuff I play but there are always a lot of harder rock clips running around so wanted to try something different :)

Saving AxeFX-Presets with individual tracks with Garageband

Would be a great capability but would likely take a small piece of plugin software in GarageBand that talked to the Axe. Agree that is a very good feature when working with Amplitube (and the sounds are really good as well).

Definitely disconnect from the Mac/USB if you are connected that way.....guaranteed lock-ups on my system. (Axe-Edit is not a factor for me)

Thanks for the suggestion (wasn't expecting a fractal response from a user forum) So, I downloaded the Axe-II factory presets, imported into Axe Manage, and then sent Bank A to the Axe-Fx. Selecting Preset 000 got an initial noise (1 second maybe) and then the entire unit hung....only way to...

I think you got off easy :) My axe is now a brick....rebooted after the firmware install, came back up, reset utility/parameters, rebooted.....now system comes up to a preset with no sound and responds to no key presses (or wheel turns) :(

Axe as an interface

Just select the AxeII as the computer's audio output and the computer audio should appear unprocessed at Out1 (assuming default configuration). If you run your guitar through the guitar input, that will go through the Axe processing at the same time.

So, sometimes I just want to get a dry guitar signal to the computer for recording in GarageBand/Amplitube and using Amplitube's effects. I used the 'Bypass' patch, set the 'Out 1' volume all the way up, and adjust the output volume in the patch as well. I do get audio but it is very low...

USB Audio Questions?

I successfully get audio to the computer via USB from the Axe-Fx and route computer audio output to an Apogee One. Only issue I have is that the Mac only sees 1 audio channel over USB even though I am connected to a USB 2.0 port so I haven't had any luck with getting multiple channels of audio...
