    AFIII Axe-Fx III JP-2C vs real JP-2C

Yes of course on phone speakers everything sound the same. That s a matter of taste some people will prefer first clip (I prefer the second one)
  2. T

    AFIII Axe-Fx III JP-2C vs real JP-2C

Second clip is richer in the mids. Close of course but still prefer the real deal (but a lot more expensive ;))

Eventide H90, can it do anything AxeFX cant?

I was using the FX3 for effects only but after buying the H90, i have sold the FX3 few days ago... Both are great of course but i can raise the mix higher with eventide and everything is beautiful. There is something special I liked better, but yeah not so easy to program than the axe fx

I have never found better effects than Eventide. I miss my Eclipse so I bought the H90.

Hi ! I m selling my FAS Loadbox LB2. Like new ! Great loadbox for amp recording and great DI too. I m in Belgium but shipping (europe) is possible. Price = 280 euros

Play an other amp... there are so many amps.
  9. T

    Mezzabarba Trinity tone chase

Yes i prefer the axe too on this clip. That said, i m not a big fan of this loadbox and plugged in the axe fx I always find the sound too mushy. So playing with a model sound and feel a little bit better than the amp with a loadbox I really prefer this amp on his 412 miked instead of IR
  10. T

    Mezzabarba Trinity tone chase

Yes i changed tubes to EL34 and push the gain on the SLO to match the trinity amp. The mezza is the first part
  11. T

    Mezzabarba Trinity tone chase

Yeah :) Gain was not too high and I m not using any boost. Straight in the amp, channel 3, gain at noon
  12. T

    Mezzabarba Trinity tone chase

I have 3 mezzabarba amps. They are really great. I have made a quick comparaison between the Axe FX 3 ( SLO lead model) vs my Mezzabarba trinity el34 in the Fractal Loadbox. Of course i used the same IR and the LB2 impédance curve with the Slo model https://on.soundcloud.com/BVXd6 To match the...

Yes ! My old 1987x was sounding and feeling like this. This firmware is great. Everything sound punchier and less congested.

    Best post here ! Thanks
  16. T

I don't really believe in profiling anymore...

There are as many opinions as there are choices, it's all a personal choice depending on the needs and the sound you have in mind. It s just tools to make music, there are no better or worse. It just depends how you ll use it and you dont have the universal good taste ;) In my opinion (personal...

    Yes totally agree !
  18. T

I don't really believe in profiling anymore...

I think all modelers sound digital. I have them all and they sound digital because they are digital devices. To me, the weak point on the axe (and loadbox with amps) are the IR's I know IR are the same than a cab miked but to my ears, definitly not. I really prefer the sound of my axe fx miked...

  24. T

    AFIII My first FullRes IR's

    AFIII My first FullRes IR's

Hi all, FullRes IR's are really a game changer to me. I have just started to make IR's with FullRes format in a very good recording studio. The acoustic there is really great, so that"s a big plus for roomy sounds. The first pack is a very good (and old) Mesa Boogie 412 OS ( I have dozen other...

    RNDI between III and monitors?

Thats good for you ;) You dont have to buy any new gear ! To me the différence is big so I m happy to use it in place of USB recording. I m searching this character.
  28. T

    RNDI between III and monitors?

Yes, maybe or not ;) At this time i really prefer the Axe with good analog gear in the chain.
  29. T

    RNDI between III and monitors?

I don't think you could create the same effect with internal blocks. I'have tried with preamp simulation, EQ, ... RNDI gives a nice analog colour
  30. T

    RNDI between III and monitors?

Yes but in my tests I always plug the Axe in my preamps (it s sounds better than USB in my opinion). The RNDI gives a really Nice color and the sound has more "life"
  31. T

    RNDI between III and monitors?

Axe fx out into RNDI => preamp audio interface (VRS8 Slate digital) then my monitors
  32. T

    RNDI between III and monitors?

I have tried the RNDI stereo during 2hours. Comparing with and without it. It sounds really better with it. It s not subtle in my tests... its sounds huge and it gives a great "analog" vibe to the Axe. The sound is more in your face too. I ll never bypass it for sure :))
  33. T

    RNDI between III and monitors?

Impédance and good transformers... That can make a difference. My axe or other modelers sound better when plugged in my high end audio interface than direct in monitors or with USB. Yes a lot more life and sounds clearer too. I will soon receive the stereo version i ll try with the Axe.

The Elusive "Tube-ry Feel" of Axe-Fx III

I m using an axe fx since ten years so yes. Thanks Listen to this video: Real amps and at 26'10 switch to IR's The beautiful raw and punchy sound become almost perfect. Boring and less character to the sound. I know its not the same cab than on the IR, bla bla, but it would be the same with...

  38. T

The Elusive "Tube-ry Feel" of Axe-Fx III

+1 Tube amps feels really different than my axe fx. Axe fx has avantages of course. While I love my tube amps I still prefer on a real cab plus microphone Loadbox + IR give me more a "DI" sound. It sounds too perfect, i love the dirt from a miked cab (room influence or bleed)
  39. T

    AFIII Funky jam alone

Hi all ! Due to lockdown I m jamming with myself ;) Axe FX3 is used for bass, guitars. Lead guitar is the JP2C Mesa Boogie with Xload (iR and effects are Axe FX too) Take care !

AFIII "I'd rather go blind" solo

Yes no problem with that if its the sound you like. To my ears I always ear that glassy, "perfect" high end on all IR recordings. For some kind of sounds I like that but on that kind of sound I prefer a real cab recorded in a good acoustic room ;) BTW your playing is really great thats the most...
  43. T

AFIII "I'd rather go blind" solo

I have all setups to compare (LB2 load box for tube amps to compare with IR in the Axe FX or tube amp and power amp with cab for complete comparaison on a real cab). My results are Always the same. I really prefer real cab miked for tube amp or Axe fx. So both are supposed to be "miked" no amp...
  44. T

AFIII "I'd rather go blind" solo

Yes of course ... I m talking in same setup of course
  45. T

AFIII "I'd rather go blind" solo

Great playing. I find the sound too harsh and that typical high harshness I used to ear from the Axe fx (or other modelers with IR's) Like a wah blocked on high position. With some EQ I can almost reach my tube amps sound but it needs some tweaking.
  46. T

    My tone is too perfect?

To me IR s give that "perfect sound" While many says IR are equal to real cab miked its not my experience. It sounds so clean and sterile that you dont have a realistic sound. Even with my tube amps IR are still too clean sounding. A good guitar cab is still the best solution for me.
  47. T

    More immediacy?

I feel the same. Compared to my real JP2 where the sound is jumping out the speaker even a low volume, the axe is less responsive and direct feeling. Axe fx 3 with SS power amp to compare apple to apple
  48. T

AFIII 80s Hair Metal w/ ML Sound Lab Mars Hair Metal cab pack

The best axe fx recording I have heard. Great sound and playing !
  49. T

Axe-Fx III sounds thin, tinny, and anemic -- Power Amp?

Of course it's helping. Matrix power amp are really hyped. Because of this, I have bought one and was really disappointed. The same conclusion, thin and fizzy and no punch (GT1000). The Fryette is a really better choice in my opinion.
  50. T

Axe-Fx III sounds thin, tinny, and anemic -- Power Amp?

Yes. Matrix power amps are thin and flat sounding The only SS power amp I like is the velocity. Because it sounds and feel like a tube amp with resonance control. The PS2 will give you more punch than any Matrix amp.

I love this new firmware. Sound is less flat and explode behind the fingers ! nice job Cliff
  56. T

I am confused about the JP2C

I have the JP2c and with the X Load and IR's the sound is really close (highs are warmer and I prefer the Real amp decay though) With a power amp on a Real cab (Fryette PS2) I really prefer the real JP2.. With IR différences are smaller

AFIII Kemper Profiler vs. Axe-Fx 3 (the decision)

I really prefer 256 or 512 too. It sounds Closer (to me) to a real miked cab And more in your face. Max makes things muddy with less punch

    Axe-Fx III output phase

No direct with headphones or FRFR or power amp + cab systems. No USB, no FC connected. But I'm hearing it on recordings from other people too ;) It's like a light phaser ON and it make the attack weird and less punch than "in phase" sound. I really prefer the reverse setting on the Axe, it...
  62. T

    Axe-Fx III output phase

Hi Yek, Yes it's in the I/O on output 1 i'm on the reverse setting to sound right to me. It sounds clearer and punchier with the phase reverse on output section.
  63. T

    Axe-Fx III output phase

Hi Cliff, thanks for your reply. I have checked with several system: Headphone and several guitar jacks FRFR with Adam monitors or floor monitors Guitar cab with power amp SS I have checked cables and I Always have the weird phase feeling. I also hear it a lot on recordings on YouTube too...
  64. T

    Axe-Fx III output phase

Hi! On my Two Rock amps, the speaker polarity is reversed. So if I use a normal speaker cable, the sound is hollow and it lacks some punch and bass. The attack is weird too, it feels like "the sound stay in the speaker" I have Always had a weird feeling with my Axe FX III, the same feeling than...

Best FRFR solution for playalongs ?

Yes Coaxial design smaller and lighter than most FRFR speakers My Friedman ASC sounded bad compared to this one You can have two for less than a CLR or a Friedman
  68. T

Best FRFR solution for playalongs ?

I have had CLR, Friedman AsC 10 and 12, Yamaha ... And I love the DB Flexsys 12. Compact, and big warm sound And the price is great too

Hi Fremen, Nice playing :) I have the real amp and the Axe FX3 but the real amp is really in an other dimension. Why is the Axe FX so compressed? Power amp recommendations

Fryette PS2 ... It beats and SS power amp. Have had the Matrix 1000 and power stage 700 and compared to the Fryette they sound so thin and flat! The PS2 is the best power amp I have ever tried with the Axe 3! It sounds now really really close to my all tubes amps. Here is a litlle recording ...

  77. T

[SOLVED] How can i get a more dynamic feel?

All my amps feel great and I dont need to change any settings inside... no tubes swap For me, if the model is like the real amp = no need for tweaking. And in my case, in a AB switch, the real amp is way more dynamic. I like the Axe FX (it's a really great tool and FX are good ) but I 'm not in...
  78. T

[SOLVED] How can i get a more dynamic feel?

I'm in too. I have a lot of great amps (Suhr, Friedman, Two rock,...) All models sounds good but the feel is way more compressed. I have tried all IR's possible, power amp + real cabs (Seymour Duncan 700, friedman cabs,...) the sound is there but the feel is more compressed and high frequencies...

AFIII Friedman BE-100 (HBE channel) vs the Axe-Fx 3 HBE Model

The same for me ... The OX with real amps and Axe effects is really great... And the room simulation is so much better than in the Axe
  81. T

AFIII Friedman BE-100 (HBE channel) vs the Axe-Fx 3 HBE Model

Definitely prefer the real amp on this sample... Mids are richer, juicier, fatter... More alive sounding... Axe fx sound great but more scooped and refined... Like a "fixed" wah in the high frequencies while the high frequencies response sound more natural to me in the real amp. I have a BE50...
  82. T

    Modeler Stress Test

Second clip is the less worst sounding clip so I think it's the amp. First one sounds more scooped and third one sound like the Helix.

    AxeFX III: What's Missing?

What's missing for me, is other technology than static IR's. Give me that raw and dynamic sound with the Axe FX III: Sorry but first videos and samples are still too compressed and lack this nasty speaker sound. With all that power I'm hoping a lot more (but I'm really confident about that!)

That's really impressive, and I love the look ! Killer, nice job !

    High Gain tone sounds digital

I was not talking about mathematical operation of an IR or how the bloc cab works in the Axe FX. Only that I knew that there are EQ in the Axe FX to sculpt the amp sound.
  86. T

    High Gain tone sounds digital

Thanks for your help. But I know how the Axe FX works. Don't worry ;)
  87. T

    High Gain tone sounds digital

I also think the bloc cab is the "weakest" part in the Axe FX. Compared to other stuff (Two notes or new UAD Top Box) it sounds more "scooped" and thinner in the mid frequencies. I think it sound good for tight sounds but less natural for vintage, classic sounds. You can compare with new demos...

So I played through a Two Rock combo yesterday.....

Please calm down Man ! I give you my opinion, i can accept that it works for some producers or guitarists. I dont have any problem with that. I was using axe fx ultra then the 2 and then the XL. For me its a digital compromise yes, it can sounds great but for me nothing can beat an analog rig...

So I played through a Two Rock combo yesterday.....

Hi Paco, Thanks for your help. I'm a sound engineer and I record a lot of guitar cabs so I know that with IR's you are missing a lot (Room influence is a big part of the sound). FW18 Dirty Shirley + Cab pack 8 noodling

Your playing is really great and it sounds great too. I m not only comparing amps but more mic+cab vs IR'S I m still missing something with IR s I really like my XL guys :) It can do so many things, in my band it works perfectly. So I m agree with your words :)

FW18 Dirty Shirley + Cab pack 8 noodling

I have Friedman, Bogner, Two rock amps at home with a lot of cabs. I can compare them too and I'm not an amp or axe fx seller ;) I still prefer real microphone+cab solution.
