How many people here who have AX8's still kept their tube amps and pedalboards?

There are a lot of players that prefer a simple setup with just a guitar, a combo, a drive pedal, and a cable. A wall of full stacks ? Probably no more. Tube amps will continue to play an important role in studios, but probably no 100W+ monsters anymore. At this point in time modelling is still...

We use IEMs all the time. I takes time getting used to it and takes you even farther away from the amp-in-the-room feel. For all you gigging with your AX8's!

Gigging with the AX8 is a lot less for me to carry since we'll have to bring the PA anyway. You should compare apples to apples. So one AC10 vs one AX8+one HR108. The 2nd HR, the stands, the mixer, etc etc is bonus.

  26. ChristThePhone

AX8 Main out TRS not working

You might want to ask FAS support but I doubt they're going to disclose any schematic. Anyway, the resistor and capacitor values should be identical for left/right/tip/ring so you could derive them from the ones still alive

Flattening the Headrush Curve for Legacy Products (Especially AX8)

no, a DI box is supposed to be neutral. I'm not in front of my AX8 right now but didn't it have 2 separate global EQs for out 1&2 ? If not and you don't want to change your presets you'll need an external EQ between the AX8 and your HRs. Feeding the HR signal to PA would not solve your...

Does the AX8 have an Ebow and Slide Ring effect?

  38. ChristThePhone

Does the AX8 have an Ebow and Slide Ring effect?

He's using a multi delay block type band delay changing the input gain and master feedback via an external controller to generate what sounds like an endless sustain. The modifier curves are pretty advanced stuff, I have to admit.

Global Blocks on FM9 is so needed

Well, they're considering storing the song tempo in the set list so there must be some space left. Whether it's enough or not no one knows.
  43. ChristThePhone

    Getting error message "Insufficient CPU"

Try to stay around 80% max CPU usage to be on the safe side. Turn down the reverb echo density to 2. Spillover doesn't matter, adding and removing blocks does. Amp, reverb, and drive blocks consume the most CPU power. Changing the global EQ doesn't matter. Running AX8-Edit does add to the bill...

  45. ChristThePhone

Does the AX8 have an Ebow and Slide Ring effect?

The AX8 has a pitch block to approximate a capo (fixed pitch), but is suffers a noticeable latency (the AX8 is slow) and it would kill all natural feedback.

Does the AX8 have an Ebow and Slide Ring effect?

actually @fremen put out an AX8 preset pack that includes an e-bow preset back at fw 2.03 times. I just loaded it, still works. Edit: the up-to-date version can be obtained here : https://fremenpresets.com/downloads/fremens-picks-ax-8/
  47. ChristThePhone

Does the AX8 have an Ebow and Slide Ring effect?

What exactly do you mean when saying you're trying to simulate a slide ? The move of the slide itself generates a sound that you cannot replicate with any effect. The sound of the increased pitch could be approximated by a pitch block type whammy or advanced whammy and attaching a pedal or an...

So in order to recreate my most important AX8 patches on he FM9 I used the 4CM to put the AX8 into the FM9 loop but instead of going the analog route I wanted to use the S/PDIF connection (AX8 out-> FM9 in - FM9 out -> Audio interface). I noticed that the signal input coming from the AX8 seems...

Please critique this one song Vertigo... I'm really having trouble with settings and noises.

Sounds ok to me. If it's good for you it is good. But what has the monitor volume got to do with your directly recorded sound ? The gain on the Scarlett should not color the sound either but it might so it could be a matter of gain staging here.
  60. ChristThePhone

    AX8 and Mixer

If you have a good preset then it usually needs only minor tweaking, either on the PA mixer side or using the AX8 global EQ to adjust to the room and PA system. Do you run your AX8 directly into your own monitor or do you depend on the venues monitors ? In the latter case don't spend to much...

Please critique this one song Vertigo... I'm really having trouble with settings and noises.

Recording directly off the AX8 into computer and avoiding CERTAIN TYPES OF NOISE

I recommend dialing back the tone pot on your guitar a bit, maybe reducing the presets treble setting (sounds a lot brighter to me than the original). Using a humbucker guitar helps as well. Then make sure to move your fret hand at the exact moment when hitting with your other hand.
  71. ChristThePhone

Recording directly off the AX8 into computer and avoiding CERTAIN TYPES OF NOISE

Gain can be easily adjusted using the controls on the AX8 but changes only one preset/scene. Reverb requires an external pedal or pot controlling the reverb level if you want to avoid diving into menues. The same approach could be used for gain as well. EQ would be the global EQ setting to...
  72. ChristThePhone

Recording directly off the AX8 into computer and avoiding CERTAIN TYPES OF NOISE

Not necessarily for each and every venue. First of all playing at loud venues needs less gain in my personal experience, it also helps cleaning out the mud. Depending on the venue you also might want to adjust reverb levels and tweak the global EQ to get the best possible results.
  73. ChristThePhone

Recording directly off the AX8 into computer and avoiding CERTAIN TYPES OF NOISE

I have the same problem with a lot of presets that were apparently dialed in at bedroom level or for studio purposes. 77. ChristThePhone

Recording directly off the AX8 into computer and avoiding CERTAIN TYPES OF NOISE

If you record the AX8->Audio Box signal in your DAW then yes, that's going direct. If you just route the AX8 signal to your monitors and record the SM58->Audio Box signal in your DAW then that's not direct recording but micing a cabinet (even if the cabinet is a monitor).

    FC Per Preset import

@Greg Ferguson Greg, I don't agree. The AX8 has shown it's doable and stable. As I view it FAS tried to integrate an FC6+FM3 into the FM9 from a UI perspective. While architecturely this might make a lot of sense from a firmware design perspective I just don't think this is the best possible...
