    I paid about $450 in tax/fees/duties on the axe. From memory, it was 5% duty, then 10% gst on top of that (cumulative), and then a processing fee. This was when the AUD was at about .80 USD, if that helps, too. It took maybe 3 weeks to arrive, from memory. World's biggest, most robust box too, lol.

    I just made a rack stand/case for my Axe using 16mm MDF. It's not the cheapest option, but it's strong, very easy to work with, and as far as I know pretty commonly used in cab construction. If I was making a cab I'd most definitely use MDF.

    It might help to know that if you select a shunt you can hit "enter" and select where you want the shunt to connect to. That's how you make them move between rows, but it also makes creating long lines of shunts a bit faster

    I find it helps to flip between two presets, one pre-changes, and one post-changes. It's sort of like the old artist's trick of looking at your portrait upside-down - it freshens your perspective and helps you see the aggregate effect of a bunch of small changes.

    If you go to layout, then press 'page right' once or twice, you'll see "gate". It's not a global setting persay (as you assign it per patch), but it is seperate from the gate block.

    If you have a midi interface, maybe you could try connecting the midimate to it, to try to see if it's sending the correct numbers when you press the buttons (ie, whether the problem is with the midimate or the axe fx). Is there any sort of pattern to the problem? IE, does bank 5, button 5...

    I'm absolutely no expert, but I have been under the impression that it is best to have a poweramp which can supply between 50% to 100% extra power than the maximum rating of your speakers (in order to give you extra clean headroom to prevent sending a clipped/distorted signal to the speakers)...

    I can't help on your first two questions, but you'll want a poweramp if you want to drive unpowered PA speakers (or a guitar cab or whatnot). If you're plugging into powered PA speakers you don't need one (as they have a built-in power amp). A power amp just take the line level (low power)...
