    Loud distorted hum

I am noticing a similar problem. In the last couple of weeks when I power up, I get this hum/crack sound and have to reboot. That usually fixes the problem. Not sure if this is a hardware of software issue. I will try disabling gapless switching, but that was the main reason I was so...

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00

II believe at some point using modelers with FRFR, you begin to develop a sense about how to tweak at home for gig level volumes. At least that has been my experience. Not 100%, but I can usually get pretty close.

Sound Checks & Your Pre-Gig Process

Tripp Lite 2400W Line Conditioner LCR2400 Check this one out. I would put it in a rack on stage and use it for everyone in the band. There are multiple outlets on the back and its not ridiculously priced.

Sound Checks & Your Pre-Gig Process

Get a voltage regulator for the band. It is different than a power conditioner in that it proides a constant voltage even in brown out conditions. Very similar to a UPS (Universal Power Supply). This will feed all the bands gear with a constant voltage even it the clubs power is crap.

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00 public beta (1)

Not sure it's just my imagination, but it sure feels like the latency reduction in the amp model block makes a significant difference in the sound and feel of the FM9. I especially noticed the difference when I was using my drop pedal. Not sure why but it sounds more natural with the drop...

    Let's see those FM9 rigs!

I have that exact case. I mounted everything to a 1/4" plywood board that sits tightly in the bottom section. That way I didn't have to damage the case itself. Works beautifully.

Not sure why, but I seem to like Dyna-Cabs better in the AXE3 than the FM9. May just be the IR I am using on the FM9. I dunno.

Any news about FM9 Beta Firmware?

It doesnt make sense for betas in parallel as the bugs that are found in one beta can be fixed before the other beta is released to the public. Maybe not all bugs can be found as the code is different, but there is still shared learning as the issues are found.

  31. bdrepko

Any news about FM9 Beta Firmware?

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't expect the beta firmware until the FM3 gets the full release. I know I wouldn't want to support 2 beta firmwares at the same time.
  32. bdrepko

Why do you use a power amp with your axe fx?

One of the reasons I use a power amp and cab is when we are playing a show and have no control over the PA. I don't want to be at the mercy of the sound guy when it comes to hearing myself on stage. Nothing worse than starting a show and hitting the first chord and you cant hear a thing.

    FM9 Professional patches

When you make your own presets, there are a few things you should do to make the process much easier. Start with an IR that you really like. You can spend a lot of time modifying the amp model to get a good sound and then muck it all up by changing the IR. Keep the preset simple. Remove or...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Public Beta (Beta 6)

I did play around a bit with positioning. I was able to get a little more low end by moving the mic around but then it started to get that hollow sound. I think adding the ribbon mic will be the best solution. Or like I stated in the OP the condenser mic sounds great.
  38. bdrepko

Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Public Beta (Beta 6)

I have used IRs shot with 57s before (OH and York) with success. This is how I have always mic'd my amp live prior to going the modeler route. Anyways, I watched a video that Leon Todd just put out where he mixed both dynamic and ribbon mics. I will give that a try.

Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Public Beta (Beta 6)

I am not digging the dynamic mics so far. The condensers are great. I have not tried a lot of cabs yet, but the dynamic mics seem really thin with too much high end. I usually go for the 57s when I choose IRs so this is kind of surprising. I still have some exploring to do, so I may change...

  51. bdrepko

Axe-Fx Firmware Version 21.02 Public Beta (Beta 2)

Not sure in your case, but the mods I usually to make for presets on firmware changes are pretty minimal. BMTP, sometimes sag, usually not much more than that. Of course, I only use a couple presets. If you use a preset per song then that can be a lot of work.

Dialing in a tone (again and again...)

The Virtual Capo is truly Amazing - but be extra careful how you program it when using Scene Ignore!

Cut through the mix: something I do not understand

I will often use a backing track without guitar and then record my guitar with it. This generally gives me a decent idea of how my guitar fits in the mix. This gets me most of the way. From there I do the remaining tweaking with the full band.

Anyone Like To Try Different Tone Stacks in the Amp Block?

I have done this with prior firmware versions. I haven't found a need since the last several updates. They have really nailed it. I don't really change much anymore. This option is available in all Fractal modelers.

    The 300th amp model?!

Some people ask "why do we need this many amp models". It not about using 300 amp models. It's about having enough models to find the ones that jive with you. I love the Marshall type amps for my heavier sounds, but I don't necessarily like the Plexis, 1987s, and JVMs. But I can try all the...

Speaker Drive and Thump appreciation thread!

What I notice with speaker thump is that it adds weight to the higher notes of the guitar. I have always been a huge Fractal fan. I have been gigging with Fractal modelers since 2013 or so. I always found there was always a thinness in the sound when you play higher notes. I could never seem...

  79. bdrepko

To 'Fatten' or add 'girth' to your preset?

A couple things I have found that you could try. 1) Increase negative feedback in the amp block. This tends to make my sound less thin. 2) Add some high mids around 200Hz to 300Hz. 3) In the speaker tab in the amp block, try reducing the High Freq knob on the impedance curve. This helped a...

Question regarding FRONT-OF-HOUSE + GUITAR SPEAKER BACKLINE

I would set the output mode to FRFR as it is more important, at least to me, that the audience has the best sound. The difference between the 2 modes is pretty small when you are listening through a power amp and cab.
