actually all it takes is the firmware storing a version info inside a preset. the newer firmware would have to know how to deal with backlevel presets. doesn't have to be the FM9 firmware,, could be built in into FM9-Edit. Of. course, there would be limits as to what the software could bridge...

Firmware like any other software can be designed to provide a support of existing user data (think of applications and OSes) over a given time. A sound engineer will apply boosts and cuts where needed during mix (not tracking). Most amateur bands are bound to play in bars with questionable or no PA systems and sound guys. In that case you might have to do it yourself.

as I understand the Twitch terms a backing track is not a problem unless it contains samples of the original song. this said you could create your own backing track using MIDI files from the internet to have them play e.g. drums, bass, and keys via your DAWs plugins, render it to a wav file and...

The AX8 looper block supports only one loop. You can add another overlay to the loop and undo it later but you cannot switch between multiple loops. This is independent of scenes. Scenes don't trigger the looper play button, they can only enable/disable the looper block.
  20. ChristThePhone

For all you gigging with your AX8's!

Using a looper as part of a live show is like playing another instrument in parallel. It is possible but it takes some time getting used to it and achieve a good timing. I don't like the AX8 looper as I cannot assign footswitches to looper functions in parallel to scene switch assignments...

There are ways to imitate an entire band on a single guitar. Just check out Luca Stricagnoli. But this takes years and years of practicing. If one wants to impress with just a single guitar you have to be really really good. Easier to play with a band (like me) or backing tracks.

Can the Extra 10% DSP Improve Virtual Capo?

Again, I'm no expert and hopefully FAS developers will not stone me for all the rubbish I'm writing here. I just don't know how 10% more CPU power would translate into a noticably better result. In the end it's a decision of what the most bang for the buck would be.
  26. ChristThePhone

Can the Extra 10% DSP Improve Virtual Capo?

I'm no DSP coder but afaik more horsepower COULD be used to implement a more precise pitch shift algorithm. One could use a bigger sample window to achieve the same but that would increase latency. Shifting the higher notes is probably less of a problem than pitch shifting lower frequencies.

Can the Extra 10% DSP Improve Virtual Capo?

To be precise it's running on a dedicated core.

My procedure is to first get the amp/cab blocks right. I pull up the same amp model and cab IR (if it's a factory IR). If there's no matching cab IR I try to find a similar one. Then adjust the amp parms to match the original which is a lot of work in case the advance parms have been touched...
