    Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.01 Release

I freakin’ 🤎 this company. Best piece of gear I’ve ever bought in 45 years that does it all at the highest quality in guitar tones… and with continuous updates. As AC/DC says… We salute you! 🎸🍻

Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta #2 (Cygnus X-3 Release Candidate)

I haven’t updated my Axe III with recent firmwares yet because I’ve been recording my album and didn’t want to have to mess with my current tones (which I’m happy with). Plus, I don’t beta test. I really want to catch up with the latest goodies soon, but the one thing I’ve seen mentioned a few...

Do You Use the Enhancer Block?

I tried it a while ago on some clean presets. I thought it dulled the sound… but I also run my sounds mono. When recording, I often double track rhythm parts (with a slightly different tone and then pan the tracks hard left and right. That sounds better to me. YMMV

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 24.05 Release

Yes. Requests are cool, but, as you said.. “whiny and needy” is not. Let the man do what he’s proven to do. Nobody else can compete with Cliff and FAS in that department. Thx

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 24.05 Release

I dont understand some people. Here we have an amazing product, that can get most any great guitar tone. We have over 300 amps, over 2,200 cab IR’s, dozens of delays, reverbs, chorus, eq’s, etc to choose from. We get updates with improvements, and new features… for free. We get bugs fixed...

I find the Plexi models all quite dark. Explanation inside. Any help?

I don’t have a lack of ‘sizzle’ in the high end of the numerous different Marshall presets I’ve made. I mainly use York Audio IR’s (greenbacks or V-30’s) depending on the amp used. Marshall’s tend to sound best with the bass below 5, the mids around 7-8, treble around 6-7, and add presence to...

    Where firmware 25 takes us?

Maybe Cliff can incorporate AI to give us anything we want. Ex… Wish for a particular amp or effect… bingo, thanks to AI, it’s now there. Wish to play like Matteo Mancuso, or Guthrie Govan? Ask AI… bingo, now you do! Wish to fix your sloppy playing, or shred 64th notes at 350 bpm? Just ask...

POLL: the single amp channel for set-and-forget

I’d like to answer your question, but all I can say is, I would think that a traditional circuit would lose some treble when rolling the volume down vs a treble bleed circuit. Like I mentioned before… my PRS guitars respond excellent with the volume and tone controls. I keep the high end going...

POLL: the single amp channel for set-and-forget

All I know is they’re all stock. These are the models I have… 2005 20th anniversary McCarty (with the different bird pattern on some of them) 2007 Korina w. soap bar (P-90s) AMAZING clean and mid gain tone.. and it screams when you dig into it, plus fantastic sustain. 2010 Swamp Ash 513 ...

POLL: the single amp channel for set-and-forget

I have 4 totally different PRS guitars. They all clean up very well with the volume control, and still retain the treble excellent. Also, the tone control is great for ‘fine tuning’ the tone. I cannot say the same for my 2 Gibson Les Paul’s though. I want to change all the pots in those guitars...

Matrix Amp and Matrix Cabs or 2 Laney LFR 212’s?

I did some research on what FR’s to get a few years ago and chose the Atomic CLR’s. I found two on Reverb and spoke to the sellers and wound up buying them. No regrets… they’re very good IMO. But they’re not easy to find. Not sure about now.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 24.03 Release

Same with me. I sold my Ultra which I used for at least 10 years, did hundreds of gigs and recording to a friend for the price he offered, which was a good price for the buyer. But I still have (and gig with the II XL+) and the III MKII I use for home and recording.

Let's show some love! What is the thing about the Axe3 that made you grin recently?

The ‘things’ I like most (having owned the 3 generations of the Axe) is that now my sounds are so realistic in both tone and dynamics, more than ever before. Plus the very large inventory of amps and effects we have to choose from. I didn’t think it would get so much better several years ago…...

First…. You make excellent IR’s that I use in most of my presets. Axe-Fx3 resale value in 10 years

I don’t understand the question. Well, obviously I do… but why care about ‘resell’ value? Digital gear drops significantly in value over the years as new stuff comes out. I think we all know that. I have the Axe III, and I still gig with the II… and the II (shock) still sounds great...

  30. FusionFanatic

Got a great strat bridge pickup lead tone?

Yes, something like that. The Esquire, Broadcaster, and black guard Tele’s had that odd switching system. I rewired 2 of my 3 Strats to have a master tone and the other becomes a blend control. I get series, parallel, and out of phase. I keep the original 5 sounds and get 4 more. It’s a pretty...
  31. FusionFanatic

Got a great strat bridge pickup lead tone?

Yes. The one pickup that could use a tone control the most wasn’t there. Leo wasn’t concerned much about the wiring on his guitars. He knew how to make them, but he also didn’t play.
  32. FusionFanatic

Got a great strat bridge pickup lead tone?

Might or might not be ideal… the tone control on my Strats are wired to affect all 3 single coil pickups. On most Strats the 2 tone controls only affect the neck and middle pickups. I generally find that (for my taste) the bridge pickup is too bright, so I’ll lower the tone control to somewhere...

Significant improvements in tone in next generation. I used rack gear since the 90’s… way before FAS, so I tried the Ultra and was happy for years. I bought the 2 weeks before the 3 came out (bummer for me) but the huge hype about it got me to go for the 3. I’ve been with FAS for 15 yrs, so...

set Song Tempo for each song – overview – and a brand new solution

For a live band that doesn’t use a click… tap tempo in the delay block… use a on off switch and tap it in (about 2-4 taps). It might not be perfect live, but you’ll be close. For recording (I use a click to stay perfect) I’ll dial in the delay time to the tempo.

Friedman amps in AXEFX3 vs Helix

I know the Helix is good, but the Recto better on the Helix than Fractal? I dunno, but I made a nice Recto tone fairly easy on my Axe III. Throw a TS808 in front of it. Gain 0, level 10 to tame the lows. Pair it with a V30 cab… dial BMT as desired. I use a York Audio Mesa oversized cab...

Interesting that you got to play it before Kirk bought it. You must have ‘connections’. Honestly, it sounded average to me when he noodled on it… but I dunno. EVERYONE who owns them says how the ‘burst’ Les Paul’s (‘58-‘60) are the greatest thing ever. The originals with no headstock repairs...

Does FAS have interest in creating an amp model editor that we could use to build schematics and load a new amp model into the AxeFX?

    Advice for large outdoor venues

I never adjusted my effects for outdoor venues, and I’ve done plenty. How much reverb mix do you use? For me… I only use 10-12% on presets with moderate gain… clean, about 15-20%. I don’t go for a ‘washy’ reverb.. unless I’m using an ambient clean tone. IMO you want to be more careful in an...

  68. FusionFanatic

Why do you use FRFR with your Axe-Fx?

No justification on my part. I was just stating a truth. I've done both methods... but I haven't done FRFR in a live situation. You're right, "There's no choice representing the view that FRFR is superior to regular cabs"... and I'm not implying it is. It's all a personal choice and what the...

Why do you use FRFR with your Axe-Fx?

How’s that? With a conventional guitar cabinet, loaded with whatever speakers it may have… how would that give a true representation of the hundreds of amp sims and IR choices you have? Why do you use FRFR with your Axe-Fx?

Every gig I’ve ever done since 1983, I always went thru my amp/guitar cab… including when I got the Axe FX in 2008. A few years ago I got the III MKII and a pair of Atomic CLRs (but still using my ‘gig rig’ live… which is with the Axe II XL+). The ‘thing’ with a good FRFR, is that when using...

About the role of a compressor

^ ^ This. I personally only use them on clean tones, and / or on low gain. Medium to heavy gain, never for me. I like the natural compression and dynamics the amp gives for the ‘heavier’ tones. To me the compressor dulls the overall tone with moderate to high gain. But, I get the need if you...

Is a power conditioner really necessary with axfx?

An EMP would probably fry it… a nuke wouldn’t matter anymore since it would take out everything
  92. FusionFanatic

Is a power conditioner really necessary with axfx?

I’m all for surge protection in gear. I have a Furman PL + in my rack at home and I never gig without it.I know it’s not the ‘best’, but it does the job. A good practice is, if you go away or bad weather is coming… unplug it from the outlet. Then nothing can happen to your gear.
  93. FusionFanatic

What do people mean when they say modelers "lack the amp feel"?

In electric guitar land there are basically two types of ‘feel’. One is the famous AITR (which has been discussed a billion times). Yes… a tube amp will have more punch (feel) than a FRFR. The other is ‘feel’ of the string response on the fingers. I ‘feel’ this is where the Fractal holds up...
