My Gibson Explorer with Stock 500T "Tickles the red" on 15% input level !
I like the idea of changing the input impedance though, might try that. How does it work on Auto ?
Hmmm, maybe I should try my vertical 2x12 Mesa cab with my setup, that's half open half closed.
It's currently got Mesa BlackShadows Celestion C90's but I could put my 2 spare EVMs back in it. Or try a combo of both, EVM in closed section C90 in open.
Well there's my homework for the weekend...
Cheers guys,
that's great information. I too love the EVM's the sheer cutting power and quality at high volumes is unsurpassed. I have 2 old ones (well worn in) and 2 recent recones and can concur the new recones sound very harsh at the beginning but are starting to mellow now, however they...
Just wondering if anyone has gone down the route of :-
AXE FX II -> Matrix GT800FX -> EVM12L's running with CAB SIMS on ?
If so did you make any Global EQ changes to OUT1 or OUT2 to compensate the boominess caused by this setup.
I find the Clean sounds are great this way, but the driven...
Hi Yek,
Just a quick question on one of your presets. "No one knows"
I read that you use an intelligent pitch shifter, but also read that you also play everything in Eb tuning (half step down). So does the scale in that preset take account for that ? The song is in C tuning so would that make...
Hi guys,
Yes defo the input lights red with the 500T on anything over 15% on the input :-)
Will check out the tones when I get home,
Cheers for the input ;-)
Hmmmm I understand what you are saying,
My Explorer is fitted with Gibson 500T pickups, which clip the I/P very easily, I have to run it at 15% on the input gain else the red lights on every strike. Since I have to do this my input the the amp block is somewhat lower than on a normal amp.
So...
Hi there,
Has anyone done a preset for AC/DC or Angus Young / Malcolm Young sounds ?
I've researched their gear quite a lot but I'm struggling to get close enough to their tone for my liking.
Any help appreciated, please point me in the right direction,
Ta
Hi Yek,
thanks for saving my sanity :)
I spent the last month dialing in presets I though sounded good at home only to find they sounded terrible at proper volume first time I took my axe fx rig to practice :roll
Downloaded your patches and system file last night, wiped my axe fx to factory...
Hi Guys,
I have the need for an autowah in one of my patches, how would I go about setting one up ?
Needs to respond to picking / input intensity.
I've looked in the Wah and filter blocks but nothing is jumping out at me :lol
Cheers in advance
Used to have similar problems with my Line 6 FBV floorboard.
Took it apart and put a blob of hot-glue on all the ribbon connectors, doesn't leave any marks and can be removed if needed. Gigged 10 years with it not a problem since.
Nice one Yek, you the man !
I'm currently working my way thru the Wiki, hadn't got to that page yet :D
I do recommend new users read the Wiki in conjunction with the User Manual as it's prevented me from making some fundamental errors in my setup and also helps newbies like me to understand...
Um not so good its sounds kinda muffled, like Shemihazazal said it's a whole preamp section not just a cascading gain stage.
I think Yek is onto something though :razz
Cheers folks
Hi there,
I read here somewhere a suggestion of running 2 AMP blocks in series (Poweramp section turned off on 1st AMP block) to emulate the cascading gain stage employed in Randy Rhoads' Marshall Super Lead amp.
So how do you disable the power amp section of an AMP block ?
Also would...
Hi Guys,
thanks for the replies, I agree what you are saying, and can confirm the EV's do sound better at low volume with the cabs on, however my intention is to play loud :D
So I guess I could because I do have the closed back cabs I could actually leave the CABS SIM on for OUT1 FOH and use...
Hi,
Just setting up my rig, so not changed anything yet.
is my setup of AXE FX II -> MATRIX GT800FX -> 2x Mesa Boogie 1x12 EVM12L's intended to be used with CABS SIM on or off ?
Does anyone else have this setup and could offer advice on which route to take.
I intend to Run FOH from...
Yep good idea, not done much playing of it yet, still mostly setting it up :D It's taken me a day and a half to work out how to get my volume pedal to work lol !
Its a lot different to my old Line6 stuff :D
+1 it's really frustrating that it doesn't do this by default.
Would be especially useful in the studio / initial setup environment as tap dancing is not an enjoyable past-time of mine :D
Hmmmm so strange that it doesn't
My Line 6 Vetta does it as do most effects unit / pedalboard combinations, off to the wishes section it is then,
Cheers for the reply.
Hi,
This might sound like a stupid question but I was expecting that if I changed the presets via the AXE front panel the MFC would "keep-up" and change to whatever preset I chose from the AXE.
Is this possible ? I would kind of expect this to happen by default ;)
Just wondering as its...
Hi HJM,
thanks for your reply, yes I saw that one, it's not quite what I was looking for. I need the CAB block to be before OUT1, also there will be no return from the FXloop.
Hi Everyone,
Just taken delivery of the Axe FX II and about to embark on writing my own patches based upon the following schema :-
OP1 -> FOH (with poweramp & cab sims turned on)
OP2 -> Matrix GT800FX + 2x EVM12L loaded 1x12 cabs (with poweramp sim on but cab sim off)
Does anyone...
I use Guitar pro and ultimate guitar on both iPhone and iPad, all great but iPhone version of ultimate guitar supports Tab Pro which is excellent and scrolls horizontally across the screen whilst playing, perfect for the money :-)
I take it yours is a local delivery within Germany then ;) - I think the ones stuck on Lehrte are destined for the UK.
Great news though, have a great day off :-)
Hi Connor66,
No I did not ask G66 to fit a quieter fan, they seem to be doing it as standard, I suppose it saves them heaps of money in returned units should one have a dodgy fan from FAS. Not sure what model fan it is.
Payment taken today :) - don't know why I'm celebrating parting with such a vast amount of money but I'm pretty damn excited now
Hope the snow doesn't delay it at all :-/
With firmware 5.01 and a quieter fan :) can't ask for anymore :D
Hey there, thanks for your detailed reply :D
20 years of gigging has certainly taken it's toll on my back - I'll have to take a serious look at these babies now as every Monday morning I have trouble getting up from my desk, it can't be doing me any good !
I've always been interested in these Bose PA things, what kinda standard PA output do they compare to ?
I mean would they hold their own against a hard hitting drummer ?
+1 on AmpKit+ (Full Version) better than amplitube
+1 on Animoog
Guitar Pro for ipad / iphone - this is really good
Hardware - Alesis ipad dock iO Dock Pro Audio Dock For iPad & iPad 2 great piece of kit with Midi outs, loads of inputs, digital audio etc.
OP although I neither agree or disagree with what you suggest since my AXE FX hasn't arrived yet I do understand your theory 8)
It's a completely plausible idea as most active pickup systems allow you to boost as well as cut therefore having total control over what is fed to the AXE input...
Woop Woop,
Received my email from Sussi last night, I'm in line to get my AXE FX II on the next shipment due to be collected from US on Monday. So should see it first week of Feb
Ordered June 6th, so things are moving much quicker now
Excellent
Yeah it's a bit tricky to find, go back to the Fractal Audio Purchase page and it's just above the Register / Login section coloured in Green :-)
Actually it only turns green when you mouse-over it
Look under Order Infomation
Yes I had and email similar to that, go to G66 website and register as a user, there you can see your order details :-
The only way I found how to do this was, click Purchase -> Fractal Audio, you will see the AXE FXII & MFC.
Now scroll the page down and on the left pane you have the chance to...
Where the deliveries up to now ? Think some people in ordered in March been promised theirs.
Anyone in April had one yet ? or an email informing them of their delivery date ?
Just wondering where we are at, don't wanna start WWIII :lol
I'm liking what you say, I have a Mesa 295 Power Amp and A Matrix GT800FX but sadly no AXE II yet :-) So was going to go with either power amp following A-B Tests, obviously the Matrix would be my preferred choice as the Mesa 295 weighs a ton and needs a O/T transformer :-)
Hi Simeon,
Cool I'll keep an eye out for your bands on the circuit and catch up with ya 8)
PLI is a always a worry, some places won't let you play without it. So gonna look into it, as the eyes of the Law always favour "the Victim" even if they have had 10 pints and can't see or walk straight...
I plumped for the Home insurance after, got £8000 worth of out of he house cover, dedicated music insurance would have cost in the region of £25/month with all my PA gear too. I very rarely leave it unattended, but the one thing that does concern me is Public Liability insurance.
Think I'll...
Hi There Simeon,
Yes I actually live in Oakdale, what a small world :) Yeah I know Harley's, I mostly play at The Patriot Crumlin and the New Inn Abercarn. What Band are you in ?
My Band is called Revolver
Hope to catch up soon
Hi,
I'm looking to insure my gear separately to keep my home insurance premium down,
What companies do you recommend and why ?
With my new AXE-FX II on it's way (soon) I'll be transporting some seriously expensive gear around and want it covered !
Any help / advice appreciated...
I'm still using my Vetta I as my main rig, I've got it sounding half decent after about 7 years, but like many of you say on this thread it's never quite there plus if your rhythm guitarist has a valve amp you can forget it. Getting lost in the mix is my biggest gripe, of course as the Vetta I...
some info on EVM12L's here
The Boogie Board • View topic - EV12L questions
Also my OEM EVM's are stamped with 812 9460 725 and they don't look like any of the pics posted on this thread.
Bought mine from this place in the UK
Guitar Effects Pedalboard Flight Cases
It housed my 2 x Boss FV pedals and a G-System (which is around the same size as MFC) and it has a removable lid and board inside
Hi Richard,
The EVM12L went out of production in the early nineties I believe, only recently has it resurfaced as the EVM12L "Classic", looks slightly different but supposed to sound the same. Electro-Voice EVM12L Classic The Classic EVM12L guitar speaker
There are many more original EVM12L's...
Hi Don,
yes the plans completely legal and available at the following link :-
http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Builders%20Plans/TL806%20Builders%20Plans.pdf
Also for a 4x12 closed back Thiele design see this link :-...
Mesa Theile cabs are build using marine grade birch ply, and the EV plans call for 3/4 Ply. The higher the grade the less voids in the wood the better the sound. The Poplar used in TT's cab design is less dense than Ply and therefore soaks up the sound.
Most decent cabs are manufactured from...
The Mesa Cabs are great, very well made and a great size for transporting. The closed back design gives a very focused sound to the audience where you need it.
I looked into getting a TT cab for some spare EV's I were having re-coned, but I feel they are far to expensive for an empty cab.
I...
Buy it !
I've got 2 Mesa Thiele cabs and they are awesome, original EVM12L's are hard to come by these days and the re-issue 'Classic' ones are really expensive.
Dear Sporticus,
buying the domain name fractalaudio.co.uk would suggest this guy owns a company in the UK called Fractal Audio. I know that these days this is not strictly true but that is how domain names co.<country code> were meant to operate. I do agree though it would have made sense for...
There's a saying :- “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time” maybe this is Fractal's Mission Statement :D
Based on the production model I suggested earlier it's still possible...
Hi Genius Loci,
I agree with everything you are saying, but I believe if Fractal has any kind of professional integrity they would not divulge such sensitive marketing information (i.e. their US/EU/Rest of World Sales Split) on the public domain. Especially without consulting G66 (who I...
Not trying to stir up trouble on this thread, just trying to keep positive about the whole EU delivery fiasco
There's an age olde Idiom "Don't put all your eggs in one basket", I've always kept a standby gigging rig, being in two gigging bands I have to. Basing your decisions to sell gear on a...
Thanks for an Excellent response S0c9,
You've answered all my points exactly the way I wanted them
I've also picked up a few new acronyms along the way :lol cool !
Hmmmm,
He looks pretty smug on his website

Hi peeps,
I'm building up my dream rig whilst waiting for my AF2, got the Matrix GT800FX, got the Mesa Thiele's with EVM12L's, so today's topic is IR's :-
1) The AF2 comes with some built in FAS & 3rd party IR's I have read, but are they any good ?
2) Why do some of you guys choose to...
Oh drummer jokes, don't ya just luv 'em :-D
Our Drummer actually asked for a drum monitor so he wouldn't play so hard, not very often you hear of that !
A drummer stringing a sentence together I mean
:lol
That is correct they went to my school too :-)
not that I gained any musical prowess from being there nor did I gain anything from being in the same Art class as Jo Calzaghe :-D
Anyway this thread has gone a bit quiet...........
Does the drummer play with kit mics ? Do these come back thru his IEM's ?
If so turn up his drum mix levels, if he hits too hard he's the one who's going to get the pain
Hi there BadMelonFarmer :-) (hope that's not your occupation lol !)
I'm just over the bridge, nearest town Blackwood near Newport
Yeah Matrix is near Raglan, not far away from us both :-)
Reading this thread I can only sympathise with the frustration and tension created with the lack of sustained supply to G66 but as I ordered my AF2/MFC101 with G66 on the 6th of June I'm expecting a long wait, which so far has only been hinted as September / October, I'm not over-the-moon with...
