    FM9 Firmware Version 7.00

    10. It's a non-master volume amp. I should be able to get this up past 1.5 and still be clean with humbuckers. On a real Deluxe.
  2. Karl Houseknecht

    FM9 Firmware Version 7.00

Is it me, or does the Deluxe's Vibrato channel now break up super early? With my humbucker equipped guitars, it's now breaking up at about 1.5 on the gain instead of about 3 like it used to. There's almost zero clean headroom.

    FM9 Firmware Version 7.00 public beta (1)

Digging the new Sunrise Splendor without the high cut engaged. That's more like it. Other than that, it sounds good. For my ears, such as they are, I don't hear or feel a lot of change in my presets either way.

Sennheiser HD600 vs Beyerdynamic DT880 Pros for creating presets

Yeah, I get that, but there’s a lot of weight given to flat reference systems with regard to modeling gear. I was pointing out that this doesn’t need to be the case.

    FM9 middle 'feet'

I had to look because I didn’t remember middle feet. Yep, they’re there, and they are about 1/8” off the floor. The unit doesn’t flex under foot. I tried, and they don’t touch. Kind of a mystery to me why they’re present.

Sennheiser HD600 vs Beyerdynamic DT880 Pros for creating presets

Yeah, the Sonys are hyped in the high mids. But they correct closer to either curve than my other headphones. And they’re so comfy.

Sennheiser HD600 vs Beyerdynamic DT880 Pros for creating presets

Autoeq.app. Select those headphones and a curve, select 10 band EQ as the EQ app, and apply it to your global output EQ. Works great. I stuck with the 2018 Harman over ear curve and I know that’s not flat, but it totally worked in my case. Harman: Flat:

    EV1 or EV2?

Added appropriate amount of lithium grease to the teeth of the gears that contact each other. This did nothing. I think the roughness of this pedal compared to the EV-1 is just due to the way these particular gears mesh. Note that this is an EV-2 from the most recent batch. Maybe something...

    EV1 or EV2?

Opened mine up and there is ZERO lubrication. I'm going to find some lithium grease and apply.
  14. Karl Houseknecht

    EV1 or EV2?

It functions perfectly. Just came this way out of the box. Are you suggesting that it should feel completely smooth?
  15. Karl Houseknecht

    EV1 or EV2?

Gave it a shot. As I suspected, all it did was make the pedal looser or tighter. It did not do anything about the smoothness of the pot or gear.
  16. Karl Houseknecht

    EV1 or EV2?

I didn’t think that would address the issue but I’ll sure give it a try and report back.
  17. Karl Houseknecht

    EV1 or EV2?

I have both. The EV-2 is perfectly usable, but the feel is not the same liquid smooth travel as the EV-1. My EV-2’s pot has a stepped or zippered feel to it, and isn’t smooth. I still use it more often than not.

Sennheiser HD600 vs Beyerdynamic DT880 Pros for creating presets

Sony MDR-7506 and corrective EQ. These correct really well and they translated perfectly to our tuned FOH system. I’ve had terrible results with my Sennheiser HD’s and took a gamble on the Sony’s. Whatever you end up using, EQ correction is a must.

FM9 with Gear by Ceba Shields\protectors

I don’t think they add any real weight. They are solid and maybe a little more than 1/8” thick. High quality, good fit, and Chad takes care of his customers. I’ve bought a bunch of his stuff and won’t have a device without them.
  25. Karl Houseknecht

FM9 with Gear by Ceba Shields\protectors

The protectors I purchased from Chad for the FM3 and FM9 all had the magnets flush on the same side and they do not move. I assumed this was intentional and that the flush side was the side to face the unit.

    Development with the next firmware

After experiencing gapless switching of channels and scenes on my FM9, I feel the same way. I don’t really want to play my FM3 without it. The gaps are jarring. The 2203 is great too but if gapless doesn’t make it then I kinda wonder what happens to the FM3 going forward. (At least mine)

[edit] - bought the kemper bag, was: "still confused about FM9 bags"

I have double padded Studioslips FM9 and FM3 bags. The fit is perfect, but I agree about the padding. It’s nowhere near on the level of something like the Helix backpack. I would love something better but there’s just not much out there.

That jives with what I'm hearing. Is there a parameter exposed in the drive block that I can use to simulate disengaging that switch? Right now I have the tone to maximum and the treble at 3:00 and it’s still pretty dark.

  40. Karl Houseknecht

    I wanna finish this Gap - Fm3

Set up a preset with just amp and cab and make all amp channels the same amp and settings. Set up a per-preset switch to toggle amp channels. Play an open chord, and while letting it ring, toggle the amp channel. Observe the highly noticeable audio dropout.

Yes. See note in the original post. The same exact preset but soloing the Dynamic 2 mic on the same cab gives the same sonic results, which is why I believe the issue is with the Ribbon mic on that cab.
