David Wallimann demonstrates his appreciation for various amps, modelers, and software

The interesting takeaway for me was the Mesa high end in the single note lines. Modelers always seem to have a hint of whine in that range compared to the first sample in the vid. I think it’s probably due to mild comb filtering from IRs. They all sound workable and without a/b’s differences...

    Questions about modes

This is a pitch axis technique. Satriani does this quite a bit. For example someone could play four bars in C Major, 4 bars in C Minor, 4 bars in C Phrygian, and 4 bars in C Lydian, and be playing around the pitch axis of C even though these modes reside in different overall Keys. The C...

AX8 vs Helix: Amp Tone and Effects

I agree that at the end of the day if someone likes what they have that's what it's all about. One of the challenges with digital modeling seems to be not adding additional harmonic content from rounding that sounds unnatural. People's perceptions of accuracy vary widely.... It's all real. :)

AX8 vs Helix: Amp Tone and Effects

It's all good. To me there's some discernible differences. Someone else's conclusions are obviously up to them. I do believe that the differences are more highlighted in actual usage. Have you had a chance to play a Helix, An Axe with Quantum, or an AX8 in person?
  77. Once was Gearzilla

AX8 vs Helix: Amp Tone and Effects

Better sounding is kind of a generalized way of asking about the unit. Unfortunately this typically leads to circuitous discussions. Very much prefer the Axe-Fx to the Helix and the Axe edit to the Helix onboard editing-- and yes I did own a Helix for a few weeks. For me Fractal is the first time with digital modeling that I haven't missed tube amps and analog effects.
  81. Once was Gearzilla

AX8 vs Helix: Amp Tone and Effects

I don't think that Line 6 can be compared to a powerhouse like Apple. To me the Helix has an interesting interface, but it's hardly a disruptive piece of technology like the iPhone or iPad. The Quantum firmware is deep. Line 6 has a way to go to catch up. Yet taste is subjective.
