Would a nearby lightning strike possibly fry my Axe-Fx 3’s USB socket?

Transmission through the USB cable can be sneaky as it leads back to your computer so it may pick up a charge from any other thing plugged into the computer. i.e. It's not just the peripheral you're in contact with, it's every peripheral they're sleeping with... :) Or if it hits your mixer it...

I think it depends on what you're after and I don't think this changes general recording practices. Micing an amp has always given you some room flavor - that's part of the sound you get when doing it. Pulling the mic back to get more room is certainly a technique that's used. I think the...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 9.01

So in reading Cliff's volume knob post regarding gain and volume, am I correct in thinking of the Gain Enhancer as a signal-level-based gain/drive increaser? i.e. based on the threshold and amount parms, as signal goes up, gain is added to the amp output?

Chad - very cool stuff! I can't get away with a single preset so that vector is out for me. After playing with a preset it looks like the thing holding the plan back is the lack of a global modifier for the mix controls. I could hook up a couple external dials and do it that way I suppose...

Haven't tried it but was wondering if this could work. When getting an in-ear mix from a venue it's usually mono. I'd love to hear my guitar in stereo. Was looking at getting a little external mixer to mix an output of the III with the board mix (sans guitar) and mix my own. But was...

Yeah, they're an option. I'm a bit wary of them in general as it's easy to make inadvertent changes as there's not a way to identify them or keep up with their changes. They also open up another vector for issues with updates/saving/sharing. Yep, and that is fine. Just looking for a great...

The Axe-Fx III manual lists "outboard gear such as preamps, processors, pedals, etc." as being used for Out 3 (3 is used in the diagram example and seemingly 4 would be the same). The output on those would be controlled by the output knob.

I've found that using the FX Loop prior to the Amp block results in a lot of hiss being amplified by the Amp block. You can hear it if you just jump the loop by plugging a cable from Out 2 to In 2 - with no external pedals. Setting the levels of Out 2, pads, etc. don't affect the hiss. Using...
