    Solved: That's a bit...

Do not fear! That was a pretty vague post on my part, I should have given more detail. Unless you're gonna be using a ton of third party plugins in pretty huge sessions I think you'll be absolutely fine. Things can get a bit off under 10.8 with my larger projects. My only issue with Logic under...

    Solved: That's a bit...

Just get your hands on the older driver, I might have it laying around here somewhere, I'll have a look. For what it's worth, all of my studio Mac Pro's run 10.6.4. Logic can be a complete bastard with 10.8.x and 10.7.x was a write off. I'll upgrade when I can use Logic at home on current OS'...

How to dial out harshness (V10)?

Yek's question is a very good one. I loaded the factory presets for the first time since FW 1 to see whether some of the complaints were down to the presets and they're, if anything, quite boomy and not at all harsh (5150's aside).
  4. D

no complaining...just a question about "saturation"

Yup, in theory, yet if that were the case, those controls would have no impact outside of the range of the captured speaker, but they do. Edit: In the interest of fact gathering, do you also use Axe Edit metal190?
  5. D

no complaining...just a question about "saturation"

I do understand that thinking, however, a real guitar cab would not put out anywhere near that range of frequencies. I narrow it down to something close to what the real speaker can produce most of the time.
  6. D

no complaining...just a question about "saturation"

That's a far cry from how I'd set that amp, but, I'd probably tweak high and low cut in the cab block. 20hz to 20khz is pretty nuts.

For those with FW 10 issues.

If you post your setup, like how you monitor etc. and what kinda thing you're looking for I'll see what I can do. I'm thinking of making a bunch of presets thru different rigs when I have a couple days off next week. I have access to a ton of monitoring options so should have most all setups...

I've not settled on cabs yet, there are so many new ones to try! However, the 1x12's and 2x12's are a good place to start. The Wiki will have some more specific suggestions, I'm sure.

How much improvement is 10 for you?

I'm not really sure how to answer this. I've had the II from FW 1 and I've been able to get the tones I want out of every firmware when I needed them. I think it's all about the FEEL for me in this one, which to me is now pretty much indistinguishable from my army of amps. The Axe has always...

I'm having a little crisis in confidence...

If you create tones in isolation at a lower volume then they will absolutely sound different at high volume and in a band context. Firmware 10 shat on my patches in spectacular fashion

I just loaded factory bank A to see if the problems people are having are just down to the presets. I think they sound pretty good all round to be honest. I certainly don't notice a lack of low end, in fact a couple are quite boomy if anything. They're pretty quiet level wise, have you balanced...

Firmware 10 shat on my patches in spectacular fashion

I think if I used the Axe live I'd no doubt feel the same. As I just use them in the studio, I'm constantly starting fresh for new projects anyways so it's much less of a hassle for me come FW time.

I think you're right! I saw clip lights and just assumed he meant guitar signal. I'm the same, I always go analogue also.
  21. D

super nasty distortion on usb audio.

The clip lights come before the output knob, they're an indication of what's going on digitally in your patch. Decrease the level in the amp block to stop the clipping and then use the output knob to compensate for volume loss.

Firmware 10 shat on my patches in spectacular fashion

I guess I'm one of the few that starts each FW with three blank banks. Today was my first chance for some extended hands on with FW 10. Crazy Fuzz

My current band is a doom/stoner/psyche band, lots of gnarly fuzz goin on! I don't really use the Axe much with this band but if I do, I put the real fuzzes in the FXloop of the Axe and place the loop block first in the chain. But yeah, for the most part, this band is pedalboards and amps.

USB not sounding through output2, what is wrong???

Yeah, back in the days of tape. Gain staging and recording levels are a bit too deep for me to go in to right now, I'd suggest Googling. I'd be happy to discuss further when I'm not so pushed for time though.

Depending on the dates, I could perhaps host a London based event at my studio. I have a lot of the amps the Axe models here also, could be fun for folks to A/B em. BUT, this is very dependant on dates, I'll have a look at the diary when I'm back from vacation next week.

    Taking the plunge into fw9.02

I'm fairly sure there'll be some presets in the banks that use amps you don't have in 6, I'm not sure if they'd fail to load or not. I've not loaded/used factory banks since FW 2ish so I don't know if it'll accept patches that it doesn't have an amp for. You could just load them with one of the...

  34. D

Does digital clipping damage the unit?

@jamn4jc There should be no reason to clip in a patch. Boosting the levels within your patch after the wah is not gonna get you where you want to be. The clip lights indicate what's going on within the grid, they don't reflect what's going on with the output knob on the Axe, if it's not...

A good sign? Wiki amp block list has suggested cabs for v10.

While it may infer the FW is going to arrive soon, the Wiki isn't maintained by Fractal, rather by the user base, mostly Yek. It could just be he's had enough time with FW 10b to make an update to the Wiki. Or it could be they told him it's coming soon, so he went ahead with an update. Who...

Thoughts on my first day with a Matrix Q12a
