Fasten the FM3 to a board with magnets?

Thanks for all the feedback guys, conclusion is to stay clear of the neo magnets (for this purpose at least), and I'll try to find a sweet spot for the minimum amount of 3M Dual Lock (black) needed to make it come on/off easily.

Fasten the FM3 to a board with magnets?

Maybe someone official could weigh in on this idea? Would there be any risk of damaging anything using 4 small rubber coated rare earth magnets for fastening the FM3? @FractalAudio ??
  3. Richard Lainegard

Fasten the FM3 to a board with magnets?

Well, you fasten the magnets themselves on the board with screws so that won't be an issue, only the FM3 (or other unit) needs to have a magnetic surface)

Fasten the FM3 to a board with magnets?

Got an idea after seeing the system Blug uses for his Amp1, where you fasten two small Neo magnets to the board and those then hold the amp1 in place. Got to thinking that 4 or so of those type of magnets (each holding like 5-10kg's each depending on where you get them) could hold down the Fm3...

Post Your Axe-Fx III Rigs Here!

Focal's will be replaced by Genelec's, but other than that things are pretty much set. I'm routing all the amps (the Zuta in the picture as well as three others in an amp rack), through the Axe for cab and FX, so it's pretty much acting as a hub.

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 16.00 "Cygnus"

Cranked up my "go to" patch which is a Cameron CCV into a marshall TV and Bogner V30. Man, quite a difference, the whole things sound way more boomy and woofy in the low-end. The tight "chunk" I favored with this patch/amp is sorta gone. Been trying to dial it back to where it was sorta by...

Just posted my new demo of the fantastic ZUTA LA25 MKII rack mount tube head, I'm running it post its built-in reactive load (line out), and into my fractal, using that to load IR's as well as adding all FX. The Axe III is like a mother hub in my studio, have 4 amps (apart from the Zuta)...

Depends... for some stuff I actually prefer their Martin D45 Acoustic Soundhole 2A as a single instance IR, which sounds very "natural" and not very processed at all. But also depends on the PA I'm running through, those works best in like a larger church system. On a smaller say 2x12 PA for...

    Good Case for AX8 ??

Just found this, and it seems like it could be a perfect fit for the AX8 (might not fit cables etc, but would be superb protection for when its needed). EDIT: On second thought, you might be able to cut out a smaller rectangle in the bottom foam, to accommodate a smaller assortment of cables...

    Getting good repeats from delay?

Once you start using the software editor, it really is very easy to use. I can understand if you got a bit lost navigating only on the AX8 itself, the menu system etc has something of a learning curve for a new user I'd say.
  33. Richard Lainegard

    Carrying case?

I found this one as well... Seems to be an almost perfect fit depth and height wise (and on width, you could store the power cable there with the connect in the slot or just some rubber mat, foam etc, it's like less than an inch on either side). And on the upper compartment you could fit exp...

Is there a hardware difference in the Midi chip between AX8 and FX8?

Is the midi chip identical in the AX8 and FX8? What I'm getting at is, if there's a hardware difference that enables the FX8 to send both PC and CC messages, or if it's only the software midi block that would be needed for the AX8 to be able to perform the same midi duties as the FX8?

What I want to See AX8 II

I'm pretty sure we'd see a separate control board with scribble etc etc for the Axe II before we see these functions integrated into the ax8. In my mind the rack will always be the "premium line" and people that needs all the bells and whistles (ala Helix) at their feet, will buy into that...

[VIDEO] Ax8 tutorials, tips and tricks - compiled list

@Smittefar Maybe you can answer me this? I would want to set up the AX8 so that the top row is 4 presets, each one related to each of the 4 channels of my amp (4cm, midi, fx etc to be used). Then I want the bottom row to be scenes 1-4 within each of those presets, so that when I'm on preset...
  40. Richard Lainegard

Midi: Could this be done? PC/CC?

Hmm, what about this then... I could put preset 1-4 on the top row? One preset for each amp channel, and then 4 scenes underneath for each preset, that when I change to preset 2 for example, then changes all the 4 scenes below to correspond to FX and midi amp messages for that specific preset...
  41. Richard Lainegard

Midi: Could this be done? PC/CC?

Well, I wouldn't want the same scenes specifically, since I already need midi on scene 1-4 to switch channels?
  42. Richard Lainegard

Midi: Could this be done? PC/CC?

So... Wondering if the AX8 can do this... If I'm in a4CM with my 4 channel amp, load a preset and set the bottom 4 switches to be scenes (Scene 1-4 corresponding to channel 1-4 on the amp), I would like to attach different additional midi messages to the top 4 such as individual FX on/off in the...

Alternative to the old Mission SP2, dual function exp-pedal?

I read up about the SP1, and it seems to have one TRS out, and one TS out. These must both be connected I take it? Like the TRS to Pedal 1, and the TS to Pedal 2? Alternative to the old Mission SP2, dual function exp-pedal?

Hmm, so in essence, the SP1 would do the same thing. COuld you have a parallell chain of blocks and FX for the piezo then? You can't right? The patches I've seen with piezo (such as Chris's) uses the FX in to get a parallell chain for the piezo to be able to blend with electric, but both having independent effect blocks.

Need help! Getting adequate acoustic tones with electric (non-piezo)?

As far as I can tell, these are not tonematched mic'ed acoustics, but rather EQ, comps etc to "acoustify" a electric, to the point where it might sound better than an acoustic with an under saddle piezo pickup? That might be true, but what I'm looking for is getting the guitar to sound like a...

    AX8 in 4CM

Gotcha! Yeah, I got confused there :p
  73. Richard Lainegard

    AX8 in 4CM

in 4CM you really don't want any CAB block to be present anywhere in the chain, and also negate the power amp simulation in all amp blocks, or you will dubbling up on poweramps and cabs.

    AX8 in 4CM

    Carrying case?

PS. On the SKB site, it says the convoluted lid foam (1") is removable, so should take of the extra handle height as well if need be.
  76. Richard Lainegard

    Carrying case?

Very! And, even though the EV-1 is about 1cm too long in the bottom, I think I'll try to squeeze it in there. I've had a guitar case like this, and there usually is some give in the hard foam padding. So I think the EV1 should fit, even if some brute force might be required
  77. Richard Lainegard

    Carrying case?

Oh, and someone might have mentioned this in some other thread. But would it be possible to take the AX8 apart and remove the handle (I know this might void warranty etc, just want to know if it is possible, or if the handle has been welded in place from inside the lid)

What are you thinking the Amplifire does better than the AX8? (curious, as I haven't heard that many good clips of, but a lot of people do seem to really love it). I assume here you're using it for amps only? Or are you putting the FX block in parallell to use "dual amps" sort of?

How about this pedal board solution for the AX8!?!?

About the height, they seem to be lower profile than the Pedaltrain boards. Also less steep of an angle. At their highest the PT2 measures 3.5" and the Temple 2.6" So if people are using PT boards with their AX's, one should be just fine with a Temple for both total height and angle.

How about this pedal board solution for the AX8!?!?

Thanks for the heads up! 1.) I think their DUO 17 will be a perfect fit for the AX8 2.) Yeah, this is definitely a concern as the AX8 isn't exactly low profile in itself. A simple wooden plate like "Trailer Trash" is definitely a better option in that regard, and of course one could potentially...
