    Before you look at changing pickups I’d check that: 1. Your guitar cavities are earthed. 2. The venue’s wiring isn’t faulty. If neither of those are the answer then I’d take a humbucker guitar for that particular venue.

    Are you using exactly the same type of strings as before? If the tension of the new set is lower than the old set the neck may be slightly straighter, lowering the action. It’s also possible that the neck moved whilst the strings were off, and hasn’t moved back to precisely the old position.

    Nah. FRFR doesn’t respond the same way, and the magnetic field is different. Magnetic coupling with single coil pickups causes fixed frequency whistling, rather than acoustic coupling which enhances harmonic frequencies of the notes being played.
