Cab Talk: What to consider when deciding between 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12 cabinets?

I forget where it's been mentioned, but if you want a touch more "bite/clarity/zing"etc in your sound, mix in some of the factory 001 1x4 pignose. The results may surprise you!

I do it the other way. Start with a biting Pignose that cuts through the mix, then add a secondary monster cab for some fatness :D

I find it really tough to do anything besides a 4x12 with a rock/metal/heavy sound. Everything else just sounds so thin.

Then I proceed to cut the shit out of the low end.

Sober me, thinks this is a conundrum.

2x15s are a fun time for metal, especially down tuned, or 7 string.

John 5 uses a Marshall 8x10 live for his solo stuff and it works well for him.

If you are bored with 4x12, there's a world of other cab formats to try that may work for you.

Unless I am trying to replicate a specific sound I go for what ever sounds right. There is not penalty for trying everything and learning what you like. So, just do that.
