Firmware Version 10.03 Up

Like the update very much. Love it actually. There is just something very musical about this one. My strat just sings now - that is the best way I can explain it. Also found that I like a lot more amp sims out of Axe-FX collection, even the ones I couldn't stand before :shock: Good one...

Getting the feedback sustain sound with Axe Fx

If I turn up the volume on my studio monitors it will sustain for days. Doesn't have to be way too loud either. It will depend on a room, guitar and of course the settings you use. Nick.

Sounds pretty cool.. In my opinion it sounds too direct which can be fixed by playing around with Reverb block, choose medium Room setting then go to advanced tab and bring up the "early level" and bring down the "reverb level" somewhat .. See where you get that way ..That should give the...

9.02 Amp Model Poll

I absolutely love 9.02 ... The clean tones just kill when I play out with my Mesa 4x12. Gain tones are so clear and bright at the same time without any harshness. Love it Love it Love it. Mik.

First gig with new setup

I didn't have to change much at first .. Just dialed back some treble and it just worked ... But then a spent a few minutes initialiazed an amp block, tweaked tone stack a few times to get where I wanted it to sound and the sound was great right there, very raw and present. Some amp models...

New Axe user, questions about speakers/amps/etc.

I use a Carvin DCM600 with my mesa 4x12 for live shows with great results... So I would try your crown with your cab. Make sure you don't set the amp full out - you might burn the speakers but don't set it too low either. I found that it needs some power to come alive. I usually set my carvin...

More Euro model confusion

When I tweak things for some reason I seem to gravitate to similar sounds that sounds good to me even when using different gear. When comparing them later on thay are usually pretty close. Mik.

ultra tuner with acoustic

If you are using tuner to tune bass it will work great on all strings except low E. For that one tune it by 12th fret harmonic. Mik.

Output 1, L and R not equal in output to cabinets...

Joe .. This was discussed before but I will reiterate. The OUTPUT knob is a "ganged" dual mono potentiometer and if you look them up there is a 10-15% accuracy in those by their spec. So there is a possibility of L & R channels of the same output pair to be slightly different volume. If you run...

About the reworked amps

Thats what it sounds like to me after the update ... I could never get myself to use XTC or CAE or X99 or Recto red models for anything .. Now they sound just how I would expect them to sound - amazing. The clarity and note definition of the amps is stunning now. I immediately noticed how old...

Reduced Switching Time Between Presets???

There is no reason to drop all your gear and just use Axe FX for everything. If you have gear that you like and enjoy by all means use it... I would try to dial in the axe fx the sounds that mimic your other gear. If it works out and it sounds the same - cool, if it doesn't - use what you...

FR Reactor ... some thoughts

Atomic Reactor FR is a 2-way system with woofer and a tweeter. Trying to Mic that is a setup for failure and most likely will not work properly (especially live). Mik.

Trying to Match FRFR to Marshall Cab

That is exactly why this "AIR" parameter was introduced for the cab block in the latest editions of AXE-FX firmware. It does exactly that - mixes in direct sound from the amp block to give you that sizzle, and open up the sound. This is actually a known studio trick. Mik.

Bought some KRK's and bass it out of control - help!

From my experience this kind of thing would happen if I tweaked a patch with the global poweramp switch off - lets say to use with an external tube poweramp and then try to use same patch direct and turn on the global poweramp switch on without any appropriate adjustments. Everything will clip...

For those using their axe with 4x12's...

I did both - mic and DI out, depends on a gig and knowledge of the sound guy. A lot of times I let them just mic it because I am just plain tired of explaining and getting either this weird look or "deer in the headlights stare" Mik.

Noob Q single coils/humbuckers

I use 1991 Fender Strat american (I believe deluxe?) SSS as my main guitar .. Sounds Superb .. I play leads/harmonies so it works out beautifully. Should I play rhythms I would probably consider a humbucker. Mik.

Bass patches?

I was able to get a bunch of different bass tones using "pedal" compressor - chorus - drive block - into SVT amp sim and into 2 x 8x10 or 1x15 cab blocks. Pretty simple.. And no I didn't really save them I just dialed them up for the recording and used them and move on to the next song ... But...

I don't know if its a recording process or else, but the tone to me sounds like the speaker cab is inside a tin can perhaps too much early reflections reverb in the patch plus too much of the high end feeding the input of the amp block, Mik.

Craig - its Buttery model with a "tube drive" block in front .. tube drive is set to 0 gain max level to simulate that modded marshall that Slash used in the studio that had a gain stage added... The trick in AFX I think is in using a fair amout of "air" in cab block don't be afraid to turn it...

How do you optimize your recording presets for live use?

I found that a lot of times it needs a lot of changes .. To the point that I just built new set of presets for gigging. There is no simple answer ... But usually for me on high gain - absolutely no bright switch, less highs and less lows that typical recording patch.. midrange to taste...

Pretty simple really ... I have my midi pedalboard set up like that - Drive, Delay, MOD[ulation], .. *Special Effect* .. etc. Once I press MOD button - anything that is modulation - things like chorus OR flanger OR phaser comes up. Special effect - depending on the patch it could be anything...

Any Luddites here?

Every update brought some tonal improvements for me. Some updates were minor some were really major ... I bought mine with v3.18 on it. :? When v7 was released - I stopped thinking about the amps - AxeFX become an amp for me. I also ditched a VHT 2/90/2 in the favor of Carvin DCM600 solid...
