Confirmed that this works. Apparently not a bug, just built into the way presets are saved. Lessons learned: Save the scenes in what you want to be the default bypass state before turning on Scene Ignore. This applies to channels as well.

So the way it works is the preset saves the bypass state of the block before scene ignore was activated? So once you activate scene ignore the preset won’t save the current bypass state of the blocks but whatever it was before scene ignore was activated? I was expecting that with scene ignore...

That’s originally how I created the preset. That’s a lot of work to go through because I have scene ignore on for all blocks except delay 1. I’m thinking it’s a bug because I would expect if I save a preset it will open back up with the bypass states the same as when the preset was saved…

I have the Turbo so I’m only running 73%-76%. I only got the unit about 2 weeks ago (new from fractal) I haven’t tried any other presets other than ones that I directly copied from this one and set up different amps. They have the same issue.

Messed around with this last night, it has also changed the amp 1 channel on me. I don’t even have the amps set up to use any channel other than A… I think I have been able to fix the behavior by saving and rebooting from each scene. That’s a lot of rebooting to get the bypass states saved though.

Its happening randomly (seemingly) to the pitch, the filter 1, the Plex Delay, the Comp and the reverb 1 so far. It doesn't seem to repeat. Ive attached the preset and my foot switch layouts.

Popping During Scene Change

My work around got rid of the popping. Never resolved the issue with bypassing blocks causing pops. The new scene ignore feature means I don’t need to create presets like this any more so it’s kind of a moo point.

I have the Axe FX III with an FC12 with 6 external switches haha! I’m basically trying to get everything I need for a setlist in one preset but still be able to get all my sounds with minimal tap dancing. Scene ignore was a huge breakthrough but there are still little details to work out.

Btw. I figured out a way to use control switches to give my 5 levels of gain, compression and amp can combinations a while ago. I created a thread about it. It works pretty well but is very complicated and uses up a ton of CPU.

If I were you I wouldn’t worry to much about what fractal was intending and just do whatever works for you. I don’t use scenes or presets to change sounds between diet and clean. I find control switches to be much more flexible.

Are there any two volume pedal users out there?

A control switch attached to the bypass of each volume block (one before amp, one after) could be used to toggle between a pre and post amp volume control. One of your FC switches could be used to toggle this control switch.

I would suggest buying a straight edge that is at least 20" long and using sandpaper vs buying a file. This makes the job a bit easier. Also, polishing is extremely important! I would suggest a diamond crowning file but I have also used sandpaper wrapped around a piece of wood.

I get that but the problem is that sandpaper isnt good to within .001 over 2 feet. At some point good enough is good enough. If you really want that level of accuracy you will want to have a diamond file not a straight surface with sandpaper glued to it.

How to think about channels

I think of scenes and channels as totally different things. In general I think it’s best to think of scenes as a switcher unit. You can use it to toggle multiple FX on and off at the same time and you can use it to swap channels on multiple FX.

What hypothetical/non-existent FAS product would you actually buy?

A floor based system cant be as powerful as a rack unit with current tech due to heat dissipation. Line 6 chose to copy a low power floor system and put it in a rack, Fractal chose to design a separate system that uses the best tech for both platforms. Its not like you can just put the Axe FX...

What difference in tone can I expect?

I own both the Ax8 and the Axe FX III, both sound great! I would give the edge to the Axe FX iii as it’s just that slight bit easier to get great tone from it. I’ve heard the kemper and the Ax8 side by side and honestly I was happy to be an Ax8 owner! The only reason I am gigging my Axe FX iii...

Is this layout possible with FC-12 and Axe FX III?

One thing to keep in mind with using the mixer like that is that it will cut off delay tails. That could be desirable in some situations and non desirable in others.

What does an RJM Mastermind offer over the FC pedals...

I am actually not using an RJM, I’m using an FC12 with additional external switches. I extensively studied the manual of the RJM and decided that the FC12 was a better fit for my situation. The advantages of the FC12 outwayed the advantages of the RJM.

Um... the FM3 is more powerful than the Helix rack. The cooling requirements of the Axe FX III mean it needs to be large in order to work. A floor Axe FX iii would be huge using currently available tech.

Three Scenes from Two Switches

I am currently using 4 switches to access all 8 scenes. I’m using it to select between 4 delay subdivisions. second press of the switch gets the same delay but with a boosted mix. I also have the hold function set up to boost the feedback. 4 switches 12 delay sounds!
