    FM9 Firmware Version 7.00

That is what I have found on my FM3 also. However, I mostly use high gain amps, so maybe the cleaner stuff is different. I have found it best to scrap my presets, and reset the amp block and start over. The old sounds dont necessarily translate well.

OK, so I got a few more hours with this tonight. I am mostly a high gain chunk and crunch guy. I generally dont like playing into IRs, but tonight I think I had the best direct sound I have ever had. The bass is clearer and punchier. The lower mids are less cardboardy. I usually EQ everything...

I kind of have a mess at the moment, but I have an ABY switch going into my FM3, and then my Synergy rack. Got to spend an hour or so with it. Yeah, I do think the low end feels more punchy and clearer than before. Plugging into a tube poweramp and 212 cabs, there was a point where I had a sound with the D60 model that was nearly indistinguishable from my Ultra Lead Synergy module. I was looking...

Awesome. Gonna check it out tonight. You are speaking my language. I have been comparing my FM3 a lot with my Synergy rig lately, and I use an Axe II for effects with the Synergy. Kind of like you said, the FM3 kind of smears the low end together on high gain chunky sounds, and there is always...

Having the Axe Fx II Mark I… crazy to consider buying a Boss SE-70 or VF-1?

It could be cool to get a SE-70 or VF-1 if you are curious, and just want to play with one. However, I doubt it would do anything your Axe II can do. Input Trim - is this normal?

I did find this older 2014 quote from Cliff: "The Input Trim is also useful in replicating the High/Low jacks on an amp. Some amps have High and Low sensitivity inputs. All of the amp models in the Axe-Fx assume the guitar is plugged into the "High" input. The Low input on an amp is simply 6...

Input Trim - is this normal?

I think I remember Cliff saying something along the lines that 0.8 on the input trim was like using the low input of an amp, and around 1.5 was like using the high input of an amp, back in the Axe FX II days. Since I normally use the high input on an amp with hi/lo inputs, me boosting the input...

    The Greatest Recto Tone Ever?

It is interesting that you really didn't tweak the amp very much. Just a little GBMT. It is also interesting that you did a lot of you compression and EQ after the cab. I generally put that stuff in between the amp and cab. I wonder if that would make much of a difference.

You can put a compressor block in front of the amp and use the dynamics processor setting for the same effect. I use to use this a lot on my Axe II, so this is how I do it on the FM3.

Will there ever be FM9 hardware in an FM3 size box?

Because when that phone or tablet does not support the device after 5-10 years, you will still be able to use the device without it. It is a required dongle that will render the unit useless after some time.
  31. Shask

Will there ever be FM9 hardware in an FM3 size box?

I never mentioned the USB. I said this is why I dont agree with a unit with no interface included. A "Black Box". I think all units should stand alone without requiring an editor.
  32. Shask

Will there ever be FM9 hardware in an FM3 size box?

Instead of building in obsolescence through, why not make it so that wont be an issue? One of my favorite things about Fractal is that everything can be tweaked from the front panel. I think the only thing you HAVE to have software for would be to load IRs. May not matter in 20 years though.
  33. Shask

Will there ever be FM9 hardware in an FM3 size box?

Doesn't matter if the unit has a USB if the company stops supporting the editor, and the editor will no longer run on the current OS. For example, look at the Nord Modular Synths. They only run on Windows 98 I think. Basically useless these days unless you keep an ancient computer around to run...
  34. Shask

Will there ever be FM9 hardware in an FM3 size box?

I would be extremely worried about buying a unit without an interface. There have been too many of these type of units that become paperweights once the years go by, the operating systems change, and you cannot use them anymore without finding a computer from a museum to run it.

Does the FM3 have enough CPU Horsepower for me?

Kinda funny you mention IRX. I know that is based on Synergy. I have been using my Synergy system a lot lately, and it has that very quick immediate attack to it. How to get Chuck Schuldiner guitar tone?

I would think a JCM800 or JMP-1 as mentioned. Add an extra parametric EQ after the amp with a scoop around 800hz to simulate the Contour knob, Add a Super Drive in front, as Chuck used a SD-1 before the JCM800 when he used that before the 8100.

    fx3 into 5150 iii 50w head return

"Not as full" refers to the 100w poweramp having more depth and headroom vs. the 50w poweramp. In general, the bigger the tube poweramp, the bigger the sound. Running into a 50w poweramp isnt going to make it sound like a 100w poweramp.

FM3 vs FM3 Turbo latency test.

I would assume a Hex system is much faster because each string has its own pickup. That pickup basically just needs to track one waveform. When the entire guitar is being analyzed, each of the 6 different strings/pitches would need to be detected and separated from each other.

Running the Synergy into Axe 3 into poweramp out to cabinets on stage.

It depends on how you are using your Synergy with it. Are you only use the Axe for effects? Are you using 4CM? Are you wanting to only use it for cab sims? There are many choices, so it is hard for anyone to answer.
  62. Shask

All amp models have have a high frequency rasp

0db is obviously clipped flat. I think 6db might have a tiny bit at the very extreme tops/bottoms of the biggest waves, but I definitely think 12db looks perfectly fine. 12db with an input block setting of 0db should be enough headroom to not have clipping from the input.
  63. Shask

All amp models have have a high frequency rasp

Are the batteries dead in your guitar? If the voltage of the battery is low, the sound will come out of the guitar clipped. I recently changed mine because I found it was only putting out 7v. I noticed a fresh battery brought back a bunch of missing bass.

No, there is no automatic kill dry function, like what TC Electronics units have. If you want to turn off effects, the easiest way is to set their mute type to "Mute FX in". Wet/dry/wet

It kind of seems pointless to use W/D/W in an Axe type setup. It was originally done to keep the amp tone separate of the effects because of signal degradation, but since all the amps and effects are in the same digital environment, just regular stereo seems to make more sense... to me...

    More “bloom” from palm mutes?

The extra hi-highs is what is giving extra noise. If you cut the highs before the gain, the noise will decrease. I almost always use the amp input EQ to hi cut down to 5k or so to remove excess highs before entering the amp.
  92. Shask

    More “bloom” from palm mutes?

I usually find turning off the bright switch takes away the aggressive pick attack. If it is too bright, turn down the value on the bright cap instead.
  93. Shask

    More “bloom” from palm mutes?

I never liked the saturation switch, lol. It always seems to blur the notes together, instead of having that tight pick attack.
  94. Shask

    More “bloom” from palm mutes?

I have not used Lundgrens, but from what I have read they are very light on bass, have a lot of clanky upper mids, and super tight. Those may not be the best pickups for a super chuggy sound. I would probably play with EQing before the amp to add some bass, and cutting hi-highs.
  95. Shask

    More “bloom” from palm mutes?

That fat low end chug is one thing I could never get right on my Axe II, but I get much better results on my FM3. I am all about that tone. :) You never said what you play through. When I added a sub to my studio monitors, that definitely helped get that low end rumble. I don't know if there...

Trying Hard To Get This Heavy Tone

It doesn't matter. The Intelligent type in the input block gives off weird digitizing noises regardless. It happens when I put my hand on my strings above my bridge pickup. Multiple guitars. It's not super noticable, but once you hear it, you can't unhear it.
  100. Shask

Finally pulled the trigger. Axe III is on the way.

I got a Sub recently and I think it really helps with the low end chug, and feeling more like sitting in front of a big 412 cab. I think if you are used to using a big amp setup it can help recreate some of that experience.
