FM9 Headphones output extremely loud - Ear protection

Not sure of your setup, but I have used a 12 channel small Mackie Mixer to run everything through in my home studio. I can adjust the various output volumes as needed. I actually run my headphones out of the Mackie.

Agree, move it around and adjust volume and xover and the symmetry placement advice by @unFILTERed is kind of an important rule. Subwoofers are not directional. But, in general closer to the wall you will get more bass, further from wall less. That has a front firing port so not as critical...

Axe bogging down my computer and freezing

Windows 10 did not come out until 2015. If your computer is 13 years old it came with Windows 7. Somewhere along the line you installed Win 8 and then Win 10. The issue could be any number of hardware or software issues. Get a new computer, they are dirt cheap.

Best presets to buy for FM9?

I have been Fractal user since I think 2008. Have always liked Bank 1 on the Factory presets as a starting point. I have the Austin Buddy Live Gold and Naked Amps and the newly released Plus Pack 2024 for single coils. All really well done.

Got it loaded up with most recent FM9-Edit and tried several of my favorite presets. Word of warning, I am not a big tweaker. Use Bank 1 of stock presets with simple low cut on cabs. Use Austin Buddy presets. The FM 9 sounds and feels great.

Matrix Amp and Matrix Cabs or 2 Laney LFR 212’s?

Not sure what your planned use is. I use a MAtrix GT1000FX and a 1X12 Celestion V30 Cab. I then turn off the AXE FX 3 Cabs. Plenty loud and punchy and amp in the room thing. I like it, but I am not a gigging musician. I also have a FR/FR setup with Yamaha HS8 powered monitors. Also good.

Mesa MkV amp - how to get Mark I ?

Never mind. I updated Axe Edit and found the FAT switch on the Green channel. LOL. When I turn the gain up and adjust a few other settings I seem to get into the real Mark V Channel 2 Mark I chewy territory. Maybe others have some better thoughts?

Mesa MkV amp - how to get Mark I ?

I see where the Mesa MkV Green and Red amps have been added. I used to have a Mesa MkV 90 watt and loved the Mark I with Fat switch on Channel 2. Chewy and thick. How does one get that?? I have used the Mesa Triaxis Green preamp (USA Pre LD2 Green) before per suggestions here.

Been meaning to ask this as I can't seem to figure it out. I have the AB FM layout loaded and it works perfect with the AB presets. It does work with the Factory presets with (Presets/Efx/Scenes). Does not respond with AMP Control CS switches. Any ideas here? Thanks.

From Fm9 to Fm3....crazy?

Have had them both. The FM3 had a few bugs IMO, but is very very good sound of course. I went back to an FM9 Turbo which can be had cheap used now.

Will try that. Didn't see there was a bug in that file. Thanks. Edit- It loaded. Except it borked the Mini Display Contrast down to 28%. :D I moved it back up to 64% which looks normal. Also when Amp Control switches are displayed there is no Cut CS6 switch.:confused:

It's all good for a plug and play user like me. I am not a huge tweaker. Dyna Cabs are a great option for the more advanced or discerning users though. I do run a Matrix power amp into a real 1x12 V30 cab and bypass all the Axe3 cabs sometimes if that says anything.

Win 11 and FM3 edit

There are a lot of threads on this I found out. Common fix is to run FM3 Edit as Administrator. Also try switching to USB2 port on PC.

I have had every Fractal unit since 2007 on multiple computers. Have had three Axe FX units and two different FM9 units on this same computer. Never had issues with any software. Upon looking at the forum here and comments in this thread, issues with FM3 Edit are pretty common.

Yep, Still losing connection with FM3 Edit. I can do all functions on the unit itself and FC-6. Nothing registers on the FM3 Edit once it loses connection. If I close FM3 Edit and reopen it then it works again for awhile.

I might also say that my Yamaha HS8s tend to be more on the bass side of things to begin with, at least in my setup. I did not know that the Live Gold package was voiced with slightly more lower end. I did know they were created with gig volume in mind. The tip to do some low cut is helpful.

OK, I have read through the manual on I/O setup and this recent thread. FM3 vs AXEFXIII I have an AXE FX 3 and just picked up an FM3 as I wanted a portable unit and to try it with my FC-6. Anyway...... at the risk of sounding ignorant which is very possible I am finding that the FM3 lacks...

Humbucker vs. single coil

Easy way to approach is buy the Asutin Buddy Live Gold presets. Cheap investment. It has everything you are looking for.

Austin Buddy presets have scenes for each amp with humbucker settings and single coil settings. It's pretty nice.

LOL. Grissom played arenas for years with Mellencamp, and then Storyville which was SRV's old double trouble guys, and Dixie Chicks, and the Allman Bros. You don't get too much more more popular than that. They all paid their dues and did what they needed to pay the bills.

Thanks. That was the issue. LOL. Last night it seemed fine through Sennhieser headphones which must have blocked out the string noise, but today through monitors it was odd. Thanks!

Probably Stupid question of the day - tuning down to Eb

What is best way to tune down to Eb? I am playing around with the Virtual Capo and shifting down (-1). It is a little warbly or strangely doubled on single notes up the neck on high E and B strings. . Using a Strat. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks for the input Austin Buddy! Will play around with those amps. Greg- Yeah, I heard Grissom lives on the bridge humbucker live. You are both right, I can get a good Tele sound from the DGT. I think I need to get a Strat again. Lol

Have longtime love/hate relationship with Fender Strats (and I have tried a bunch of them). Never have really bonded with one. Just too thin sounding for me. They do sound great when others play them. Am also a longtime PRS DGT owner. Their split humbucker mode allows some of the blocked coil...

Stupid question..... What about through headphones? And a CAB with a FR Live Response speaker like the Celestion? I do have powered FRFR, and Matrix PA and CAB with regular guitar speaker.
