7-string Stratocaster and Das Metall (HD video)

It's an option, but I recently made a pickguard for another 7-string strat I'm building and let's just say it was an absolute bitch to get it clean. Especially the bevels. However, I've contemplated removing the bridge tone knob because I don't use it anyway (on a SSS strat I might, but not on...

7-string Stratocaster and Das Metall (HD video)

It didn't use to be a problem as I grew up playing an '82 MIJ Strat, but then I started learning a lot of Petrucci stuff and adopted his "locking" style of picking, which is why I keep bumping into the volume knob. I could play without anchoring my picking hand but it gives me less control when...

7-string Stratocaster and Das Metall (HD video)

Thanks! :) The problem with the volume knob is that by the time I'm reaching the climax of an epic alternate-picked monster lick, I've practically turned down all volume and I have no gain or sustain left... which is a bummer.

7-string Stratocaster and Das Metall (HD video)

Coming from playing a singlecoil-modded Schecter Hellraiser C-7 most of the time, I honestly prefer the Squier. The frets are wide but not too tall, and the carve has a very natural "Fender C"-shape, with a very smooth finish. The only things I don't like about it are the same things I don't...

7-string Stratocaster and Das Metall (HD video)

This is me trying out my new guitar, a pretty rare Squier 7-string strat from the late 90's. The patch is made with the Das Metall with very low gain (around 3-4) into a Redwirez Mesa cabinet and with a PEQ taking out some 250Hz and boosting at 1.4kHz. 7-string Strat + Axe-Fx VH4 - YouTube...

Promo video for my band! (Party-rock, all Axe-Fx, 7-strings etc.)

Freak Kitchen cover: SLO, Brown, TriAxis and an SSL console :)

Yeah, the CLA stuff looks incredibly tempting, it's definately high on my priority list right now, especially since I'm gonna mix my bands new record in a few months. And yeah, I never post-process my Axe-Fx tones :lol I'll see what the CLA's can do for the drums and vocals though.

Freak Kitchen cover: SLO, Brown, TriAxis and an SSL console :)

Cheers man! Yeah for some reason I've come to appreciate more pop-style productions for rock music, in the style of Chris Lord Alge and Jack Joseph Puig. I kind of like the sound of having a wall of guitars that sound almost like one instrument, while having the vocals soaring on top. For...

Idea...! What if endorsed ARTIST'S created patches....?

I really don't understand that argument. I really like all my tones and some of them are very similar or even based on an artist's tone. Does that stop me from buying that artist's records? Hahahah no... added to that fact, there are plenty of artists and bands whose music I don't care for, and...

Thanks man! Indeed I am the singer, reluctantly as my usual singer was supposed to do this but ended up having a gig that day. And the backing vocals are actually autotuned ;) I find autotune to be a good tool when you want a more "anonymous" backing vocal tone, which is good when you're doing...

Freak Kitchen cover: SLO, Brown, TriAxis and an SSL console :)

Cheers for the feedback :) Yeah the snare and kick were my main trouble during this mix, but I replaced the kick entirely in Logic so it sounded pretty decent after that :) The kick we recorded didn't have a hole in it, so no matter what we tried we just couldn't get that modern rock "click" out...

Here's a project i did for AE school, "My New Haircut" by Freak Kitchen. The assignment was to record something in the big studio at school (SSL table, Genelec towers, ProTools HD, various nice mics by Neumann, Rode etc.), and then mix the whole thing on a digital Yamaha table, using the...

Tosin Abasi playing Axe FX for EMGpicksupsTV

Which it really doesn't, since Tosin didn't use EMG's at all for the record, as far as I know. And I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps ship now that DiMarzio make passive 8-string pickups that fit in 808 routes. And his new LACS has Lundgren passives as far as I know.

Andy Timmons' "Resolution" tone attempt (preset included)

Cheers! Yeah I'm a bit overtweaked now, will have to listen with fresh ears tomorrow. It definately is a very complex tone, for sure. Though ultimately the guitar used will make a difference that you can't really get around, I suppose.

Andy Timmons' "Resolution" tone attempt (preset included)

Inspired by this thread, I took a stab at making a Timmons tone aswell. I can only listen through phones now, but what do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyIRtSoGY20
  18. J

Andy Timmons' "Resolution" tone attempt (preset included)

Really sweet! It's very close but it does sound a little fuzzier and pointier than the Resolution tone. Comparing to the record right now, I'd say your tone is more middy whereas Andy's is bassier. I was watching some vids with Timmons the other day and came to the conclusion that the thing...

5150 rock song (rhythm & lead) video content

    Dance-rock song... about getting laid...

I just finished recording a demo for a new Rhinestone song, called "Fire in the Hole"... everything is done by me, the drums are the Indie Live Kit in Logic and the bass is my home-built 7 pitched down an octave. Marsha "in a room" recording

Cheers! Nice screen name too, Toto is one of my favourite bands!
  26. J

    One video on Youtube

Incredible technique, man! But maybe overdub the video with the recorded sound file instead, your room sounds pretty boomy and reverberating which isn't that good for hyper-speed playing like yours. Either way, like I said, incredible playing. Good to see some scandinavian Axe-Fx users too! :)

    Marsha "in a room" recording

Cheers guys :) Some of you make awesome tones, so it's great to know you like my stuff :) It's butt-simple actually, Marsha BE with Boost on and a slight raise on the mid and treb knobs, with some extra master. That goes into the 4x12 JM2000 cab with R121, and that's it.

    Marsha "in a room" recording

I made this only because some tube purist wanted to hear if I could replicate a basic, unprocessed amp tone. I understood from the conversation that this guy is talking about the sound you get sitting next to an amp, and not the mic'd sound of an amp. So I get to work :) Hope you like it...

It's cool man, I appreciate the constructive words :) We're all learning and growing still, and our singer is going back to taking vocal lessons pretty soon. Wich one sounds best /FW 9.02 or real amps

It's hard to say, I think the Axe sounds a tad clearer and less gainy than the other one, so I guess more hi-fi in a way. But that could probably be altered a million ways in mixing. Both sound great to me. I guess some might want less of that hi-fi vibe in a song like this, so in that case...

Signal loss out of the Axe-Fx?

I think that may actually have been it, I raised it the other day along with taking off some Ratio on the individual gates on a couple of sounds, and now it sounds like it should. Newbie mistake. Thanks for the help, guys!

So, how exactly is Jeff Loomis using the Axe-FX?

That's not too uncommon, but the big problem I see in metal today is that producers seem to agree too much on what constitutes a great metal production, resulting in most of the modern metal to sound incredibly generic and samey. Everyone has the same kick drum sound, same guitar sound etc. A...
