Thanks man! Indeed I am the singer, reluctantly as my usual singer was supposed to do this but ended up having a gig that day. And the backing vocals are actually autotuned ;) I find autotune to be a good tool when you want a more "anonymous" backing vocal tone, which is good when you're doing...

Cheers for the feedback :) Yeah the snare and kick were my main trouble during this mix, but I replaced the kick entirely in Logic so it sounded pretty decent after that :) The kick we recorded didn't have a hole in it, so no matter what we tried we just couldn't get that modern rock "click" out...

Which it really doesn't, since Tosin didn't use EMG's at all for the record, as far as I know. And I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps ship now that DiMarzio make passive 8-string pickups that fit in 808 routes. And his new LACS has Lundgren passives as far as I know.

Cheers! Yeah I'm a bit overtweaked now, will have to listen with fresh ears tomorrow. It definately is a very complex tone, for sure. Though ultimately the guitar used will make a difference that you can't really get around, I suppose.

Incredible technique, man! But maybe overdub the video with the recorded sound file instead, your room sounds pretty boomy and reverberating which isn't that good for hyper-speed playing like yours. Either way, like I said, incredible playing. Good to see some scandinavian Axe-Fx users too! :)

Cheers guys :) Some of you make awesome tones, so it's great to know you like my stuff :) It's butt-simple actually, Marsha BE with Boost on and a slight raise on the mid and treb knobs, with some extra master. That goes into the 4x12 JM2000 cab with R121, and that's it.

I made this only because some tube purist wanted to hear if I could replicate a basic, unprocessed amp tone. I understood from the conversation that this guy is talking about the sound you get sitting next to an amp, and not the mic'd sound of an amp. So I get to work :) Hope you like it...

I think it ended up just over a grand in total, but I'm also in Sweden so pretty much everything was imported from the US, with the shipping and taxes that come with it... Definately a good price for a full custom though :)

Wich one sounds best /FW 9.02 or real amps

It's hard to say, I think the Axe sounds a tad clearer and less gainy than the other one, so I guess more hi-fi in a way. But that could probably be altered a million ways in mixing. Both sound great to me. I guess some might want less of that hi-fi vibe in a song like this, so in that case...

Thanks! I've toyed around with the panning but nothing too radical. I'll try spreading it all out a bit more. And as alcadwell also said, I'll cut some lower and higher frequencies to bring out the bass and kick drum and tame the overheads a bit (which need some panning aswell). Good tips so...

This is my first attempt at mixing a full band, so I'd love to hear some pointers! Any input on panning, levels, eq, compression etc. is VERY appreciated :) I've got limited monitoring options though so I'd like to know what it sounds like on your systems. I think it might be a bit too bassy...

I think that may actually have been it, I raised it the other day along with taking off some Ratio on the individual gates on a couple of sounds, and now it sounds like it should. Newbie mistake. :oops: Thanks for the help, guys!

Thanks for the replies! Like I said, I've tried several guitars on several different patches, all of which were perfectly fine just days ago. I've recorded with the same patches and the recordings sound great. I'll try to shut of the gate globally, won't hurt to try.

Hey guys! I've been recording with the Axe for a while and it's gone smoothly, but yesterday I got back to the studio and all of a sudden I'm getting this strange signal loss from the Axe-Fx. It sounds like what you'd expect from a dying battery or bad wireless system, i.e. the signal dies out...

Let's work on an exacting Petrucci MKIV Lead patch

Not sure if they're from the actual album, but if you go to the DiMarzio homepage, click 7-string pickups and then click on either the CrunchLab or LiquiFire, there's a sound clip there played by John with no backing, just his guitar tone. But like I said, it might not be his actual album...

Thanks man! Yeah, you're right, crunch isn't really the right term for it ;) I got the Axe only a few weeks ago and I'm amazed at how easy it is to tweak, once you have the right global eq that is.

So, how exactly is Jeff Loomis using the Axe-FX?

That's not too uncommon, but the big problem I see in metal today is that producers seem to agree too much on what constitutes a great metal production, resulting in most of the modern metal to sound incredibly generic and samey. Everyone has the same kick drum sound, same guitar sound etc. A...

How are you using the AFX for recording?

That's a good idea, I just split the signal so I always record a direct track parallel to whatever else I'm recording. I've never had to use the direct signal, but it's there anyway :)
