Built myself a guitar... what do you think?

Hey dudes! Hope this thread isn't inappropriate on this forum :)

A little backstory: My band is heavily influenced by Toto, Steely Dan etc. but also have a harder rock edge, and for this I've been using a HSS Warmoth to great effect. But I also like using 7-strings, but there simply are no production 7's that are spec'd for this type of music... so I spent the last month or two putting together my own custom 7-string :)

Here it is:

Some specs:

Body: Swamp Ash
Neck: Maple+Ebony
Pickups: DiMarzio Paf7 (bridge), Lollar Blondes (neck, middle)
Bridge: Hipshot Contour 7

I'll make some video demos with it as soon as I get it back from my guitar tech (I'm a noob with electronics, so that's where my DIY-story ends). Acoustically though it sounds really resonant, tight bottom end and snappy top end with lots of sparkle and punch :)

Cheers!

I think if I built a guitar that nice, I wouldn't lay it on concrete (or slate, or whatever that is) :) . Very cool.

great looking guitar, man!
nothing beats a good piece of swamp ash!

ebony fingerboard, excellent call. In my collection, only my Framus has a ebony fingerboard, but I just love that slick feel it has.
ebony, maple, swamp ash, it's gonna be a bright one!

what I probably like most about your guitar is that it doesn't look clunky like many 7-strings do. great body shape + bevels!

so, you build this beauty from scratch?

nice.
I've built a few instruments in my day. I worked at PRS for a bit -about 23 years ago...man I'm getting old.

Thanks, guys! :)

I got the neck from Warmoth (with a paddlehead headstock), the rest I built myself. It would be fun to make a neck sometime but I don't have the tools, unfortunately.

just curious as to what your total cost was on that, it's amazing!. I'm also having a hard time finding a seven that works for me.

I think it ended up just over a grand in total, but I'm also in Sweden so pretty much everything was imported from the US, with the shipping and taxes that come with it... Definately a good price for a full custom though :)

Looks very nice! Even better from behind... but that's what I usually like.

The neck looks pretty wide. Is it comfortable to play? And HOW DOES IT SOUND?! Clip!

Cheers! :) You're the first one to like the back though, in fact quite a few people have said it could use some more work  The sound clips will hopefully come next week, the guitar is getting wired up by my tech at the moment.
