Windows 11

This is the zealotry.
I don't think you understand what zealotry is. If something is claimed to be provably true, that's not zeal because they're basing their opinion on evidence. Zealotry is accusing without hearing the basis of the argument and dismantling it logically afterwards.

In fact, Linux is great at everything and provably better than Windows/macOS by a long mile.

I m out of here-what a joke and wasted time.....................
Yeah, communication is hard.

I've never said any OS was unarguably superior at everything. Just that macOS and Linux can't compete with Windows for gaming.
You actually said Windows is "a better platform for gaming". Not that you asked nicely, but I can logically counterpoint that in added detail.

The perfect operating system is one that doesn't get in your way. Not with updates, not by breaking features, not by forcing you to do things differently, and not by running software behind the scenes and getting in the way of what you really want to do. Whether it's a game or an app, everything will run better on an operating system that isn't bloated and doesn't get in the way if the apps are written for that operating system. No OS gets less in your way than Unix, but I focus on Linux since there is more active development on Linux and lots of code is shared between the two.

So, there is no way an OS like Windows or macOS can be noted as not getting in your way. Take the same app, write it for both Linux and Windows, include the same level of sophistication and efficiency and it will always run faster on Linux.

In fact, the only person who's said one OS is good at everything is (checks notes): you.
I stand by that statement because I can defend it. I'd love to hear the counterargument. So far you've said it's because apps already written for Windows exist where they don't for Linux. But that isn't a problem of the OS, it's a problem of the app writers not making Linux apps.
I was clear that I believe in the right tool, for the right job here.
You weren't clear. In that same post you mention how it's a better gaming platform, which makes about as much sense as my Atari/NES comparison.

I’m sure all of the above conversations are very interesting but there’s one very big question you are all missing.

Can I get viruses on my windows 10 laptop if I only use the internet for YouTube backing tracks??

A simple yes or no is just about as technical as it needs to be. 😉

:tearsofjoy:

This is a good response! It's an excellent level set for your skils here. I'm glad we got to this.
The irony is I chose the simplest answer because I'm venturing a guess on where you sit in the Dunning-Kruger curve, but even with that simple answer you won't address it directly. How then can I give you a more clever masterclass answer on the philosophy of software development ala The Cathedral and the Bazaar when you are so irreverant?

I can do it in one sentence....

It has less unnecessary software running in the background.
Serious question. What music related applications do you run under Linux? Also, what audio HW do you run with it. I’m genuinely curious about what a typical Linux music setup looks like today.

Thanks

I'm quite comfortable with what ever assumptions you'd like to make about me. You do you, boo.

One last joke for you?

A Linux zealot is like a flat-earther with a terminal.

They're absolutely certain they're right about everything, but when you ask for proof, they just tell you to curl -s https://catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar/index.html | lynx -dump -stdin

(Oh. Made it even BETTER! :) )

I moved from Linux to Windows 10 on my laptop just because FM3 Edit and I deeply dislike Windows.

Linux game compatibility is still poor. Some randos hot take on youtube doesn't change the fact that only a small fraction of games out there actually work on Linux. Your narrative sucks and you should just give it up now.
The man works for the leading German computer magazine c't and I'm afraid your opinion is amateurish in this case.
