Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 4.01 Public Beta

i second removing some of the older parameters in the amp block that don't get used much. maybe a poll to select candidates. also the ability to switch to older modelling versions. no idea how much space it would save and it would also only be a temporary reprieve, i suspect.

also - cliff posted this in the beta forum, which might be of interest here...

SV's personal settings are:
Drive: 7.5
Bass: 6
Mid: 4
Treble: 8
Presence: 8

However to get the model to match the amp I had to increase Mid to 5 or so. I suspect the taper of the pot is off slightly.

As a user of a Mark 2 i´m sad about the news, but of course thanks to FAS for all this support in all this years. ;)

In fact, I'm very happy with my Axe Mark 2 and I´m not considering a change in a near future.

That said, the question that many of us do is: What future awaits us (users of Mark I/II) between the Axe XL (and XL+) and a possible Axe 3 in a long-term future?

I mean, if the intention is to continue using the Axe XL for many years without even develop an Axe 3 I would consider to buy it, but if in the future (lets say 4-5 years) is expected to have developed a Axe 3 i´d wait, because with the Axe Mark 2 that I have i´m very satisfied.

Logically, nobody can guarantee me anything, I just want to know the general intention of FAS among the further developing of a product that already exists, giving priority to make a new one, or maybe go both ways for a future medium to long term.

Thanks for all. ;)

Great question. I would like to know the answer as well, Of course if it's possible for FAS to answer it :)

As owner(s) of AXE FX2 MKii we should be glad we came this far and all the negative responses are pretty lame
(and hope it was ment as a sort of joke to show the dissapointment as FAS has been quite generous)

BUT:

If it is a matter of larger BOOT ROM, I guess that if you UPGRADE the boot rom (and this should not be impossible I guess) all AXE FX 2 members that done this upgrade should continue with new FW

(I really really hope so, as I only have the MKII now for a couple of months and I really enjoyed the FW upgrades in terms of better sounds and new amps!)

CLIFF / FAS

Can you make a UPGRADE feature & a separate FW for those who have upgraded?

During all this years of updating firmwares one thing that have always amazed me was how small were the syx filles needed to run the machine... and now I found that they are becoming to big to keep the updates without upgrading.

LOL

Just gave a crack with some of the (few) drive pedals I use in the AFX. The clipping definitely seems to have improved. I personally still prefer the real thing, but that's okay :). It's nice to see some improvement.

As a Mark I/II owner, I'd be glad if it would be possible to remove some of the amps to free up space.

But if not, I still thank FAS for hell a lot of updates and a last firmware that does not make me wonder about the later ones.

It's shocking to me how many people have an expectation for a company to support with updates a product that is discontinued. In no other industry do you see upgrades for discontinued products. It's just not good business to put resources and efforts into discontinued products. At some point the user must upgrade. The life span of the mark I/II had outlived most other similar products. Any of you who have owned line 6 products know this. When line 6 is done with a product, they are done.

IIRC the Axe Fx III is not in development yet and the Xl line still has about 3 to 4 years left or so before the new unit hits the market, Cliff talked about this somewhere some months ago.

It will take a complete redesign of the internal OS of the Axe Fx in order to let users unload unused amps, seem like a complicated task, but one that could benefit manynusersin the future on all Fractal products that handle amps

I hear you, but then again Line 6 cannot be compared to FAS .. :)
.. FAS is a Rolls Royce
and line 6 is a "Ford Transit Ice Cream Van Carpigiana"
FAS has raised the bar high above everyone else in the business, not only by the quality of the products,
but also customer support and end user interaction
:)

Number of amp sims is not the problem, its the main boot rom, from what I understand they are stored different places. He said there is room for thousands more amps IIRC. I'll be he can do some house cleaning and remove somethings that are eating space that aren't ever really used, this is a guess. But sooner or later an end has to come.

I may be the only one who experienced it, but I wanted to add that after upgrading to 4.01 beta, the amp modeling version was changed from LATEST to Q3.xx on my personal presets. The remaining factory presets (that I scrolled through) stayed on LATEST.

Yes, it might be worthwhile to check the Modeling Version parameter in your presets.
For example, adjusting Modeling Version in a "global" amp does not translate to other presets. It has to be adjusted in each preset.
And I've seen some other instances where I needed to set it to Latest again, after an upgrade.

I know when the Axe III is released I will be getting one. I started with the Ultra, and have been more than happy with Cliff and his dedication to improving the Axe II. I do hope he includes the bass amps with the final firmware, I like to play bass on my tracks, easier than finding a bass player:)

Can't read 11 pages of thread! Some questions on recto2: apart from Presence (can anyone suggest changes needed to existing presets for recto2 red modern?), what Tone Stack error mean? And why it's always the rectos that have "problems"? :(

Curious where the Ax8 fairs in the boot rom space?
I agree with whoever said, if the amp models don't fit, so be it.
But the under the hood other tweaks hopefully continue, if not, again we have no complaints.
This unit has evolved so much since the start, we have an awesome tool for years to come if nothing changes.
Cheers.

there were recto changes... I messed around with a few of them and had no issues. where are you seeing the "error"?
