That version of the FM9 would be the perfect fly rig. Just fold it up and put it in your pocket! Fractal needs to get busy working on paper-thin guitar processors.

Kansas and Head East using Fractal Audio processors

Kansas and Head East using Fractal Audio processors

I was able to open for one of my all-time favorite bands tonight---Kansas! I was interested to see that Rich Williams and David Ragsdale both use Fractal processors direct to the P.A., with no speaker cabinets on stage. Rich uses two Axe-FX III units for his electric guitars, and one Axe-FX II...

    FM9 Case?

I don't like that the buttons are being pressed, but I don't know if that's a problem or not. They're not being smashed down, just pressed. I can hear the click when I close the bag. If it's possible for you to check the case out in person before you buy one, that would help. I would hate to see...

    FM9 Case?

There's no tag or any model information anywhere in or on the bag, other than the Pedaltrain logo on the front. It seems like the measurements of his case and mine are very similar, though.
  14. markmurtha

    FM9 Case?

I'm so sorry about that! I just checked the fit of my case again, and the FM9 fits easily in the case except at the top, where the case tapers slightly. I just pull the sides back a bit, and it fits in. The case zips up easily, and it looks like the zipper doesn't touch the edges of the unit...

    FM9 Case?

I wonder if that's the same case I have: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fm9-case.176183/post-2165837 What are the dimensions of your case? Mine is a snug fit, but the FM9 definitely fits in the case.

    FM9 Case?

That's very encouraging news! I was thinking about getting an FM3 case as well as an FM9 case from them, but when I saw the pictures and read about the lack of padding, I changed my mind. Let us know what you think of the new cases when you get them.

    How to model real amps?

I definitely agree with you. When I listen to recordings of my favorite guitarists from various periods of their career, their amp sounds vary, but their playing is still unmistakable. I think our time is better spent on making great music rather than getting mired in the minutia of amp sounds...

Finally got the new FM9/FM3 Pedal board put together

You know, I wonder if this approach you're taking (and myself and others are taking) to dump the rack unit and separate foot controller in favor of an all-in-one powerful floor unit will influence the future Fractal Audio product offerings. As technology continues to improve and more power can...

    FM9 Case?

That's a great question! I hadn't thought about that. I just checked it, and as I closed the bag, I could hear at least one of the black switches engaging. I'm not sure if I like that! I tried turning the board around the other direction, and I could hear the black dial being pressed when I...
  25. markmurtha

    FM9 Case?

It's very snug. The inside of the large compartment isn't perfectly rectangular, and is slightly tapered inward at the top. The internal padding is great, though, so I think it's well protected.
  26. markmurtha

Anyone use the FM9 for an audio interface yet?

Yes, it also has the fixed 48kHz sampling frequency. I have used the III for recording via USB with Pro Tools, and the latency is similar to the FM3. It's definitely usable if you use high buffer settings when you have high track/plugin counts, though. You can record with the lowest buffer...

    FM9 Case?

I'm using this Pedaltrain "Premium Soft Case" for my FM9, Mission Aero expression pedal, power cable, two guitar cables, HX Stomp backup rig, and HX stomp power supply. I received it as a gift, and I don't know which model it is for sure. Sweetwater has quite a few variations of this bag...

Anyone use the FM9 for an audio interface yet?

I have an Axe-Fx II and III, an FM3 and and FM9, and they have all been great. The rack units have ribbon cables that can come loose, but it's an easy fix with some hot glue. I always bring an HX Stomp to gigs as a backup rig, but I've never had to use it. I think these units are well built, and...

Anyone use the FM9 for an audio interface yet?

I have used my FM3 with Pro Tools quite a bit. I haven't used the FM9 with it yet, but I expect the performance will be similar. It's got some latency, but I find it to be great for mixing with a larger buffer size, and good for recording with a smaller buffer if you don't have a bunch of tracks...

    Pedals and FM3/FM9 your opinion

By the way, I feel confident that I could replicate any time-based pedal effect with the FM3 or FM9. There are so many options. I wouldn't hesitate to switch to an all-in-one unit and dump the pedals. Also, I don't use any of the drive blocks in the Fractal units. The amp blocks have all the...

    Pedals and FM3/FM9 your opinion

I have the FM3 and the FM9. The FM3 is perfect if you need a small, portable rig with great sounds, as long as you don't expect too much from a single preset. The CPU is easily overloaded if you try to create a "kitchen sink" preset. I use it for steel guitar primarily, but I also use it for...

One thing I really missed when I pulled the FM9 out of the box is the top handles on each side that the FM3 has. The FM9 is heavy, and it would be much easier to move around with those handles. Oh, well!

Sticking with the FM3? Upgrading to FM9? Why?

I'm keeping my FM3 to use on gigs where I only play steel guitar. It's perfect for that. I'll use the FM9 on regular guitar gigs and gigs where I play steel and regular guitar. The three switches and limited CPU on the FM3 have been a real problem for me on regular guitar gigs. The FM9 looks...

Mine had the same problem. I went in to the Setup menu, then FC Controllers/Onboard Switches, and then Mini-Display Contrasts. The HX Stomp is a great unit. I've had one for quite a while, and in light of the issues with the FM3, I plan to carry it with my FM3 as a backup. My FM3 has been fine so far, except for locking up every time I try to import a patch from my AxeFX-III.

No, I think only some people have had the problem so far. I guess USB-B ports just aren't designed to be plugged and unplugged frequently. I've had to replace the USB-B port on a keyboard, and I just want to be prepared in case the FM3 port also fails. I plan to use that port on my FM3 every...

I ordered a 10-pack of PCB mount USB-B ports, just to be safe. I've been very happy with all of my Fractal Audio gear. It's not perfect in every way, but it's great in almost every way. Super wobbly USB type B slot

It's definitely not Fractal's fault. I never had that problem with my II or III because I always use a rack panel with a USB feedthrough on my rig. The actual port on the back of the rack unit only gets plugged and unplugged about 3-4 times in its life. That approach won't work with the FM3, so...

    Peculiar Expression Pedal setups?

You can do that if you only activate one modulated effect at a time. I use that approach on a patch by assigning switches to turn on various effects that use the expression pedal. Axe FX II maintenance tips for a new Axe user?

I don't think I've ever given a thought to scratches on any of my rack gear. I just use it, and don't worry about scratches. It usually gets installed in a rack one time, and that's where it stays. Nothing else in the rack gets moved in or out.

Axe FX II maintenance tips for a new Axe user?

I wouldn't worry about it. I have turned mine off and on countless times, taken it across the country in a road rack, and left it on overnight. It's built to last. There are some components that might fail at some point, like the screen or the power supply, but they are easy to replace. You...

Ability to send outputs 2-4 to the headphone output

Ability to send outputs 2-4 to the headphone output
