R.I.P. Ralph Towner

I was surprised there wasn't more of an acknowledgment of Ralph Towner. He's been a huge inspiration for me. Yes he didn't play electric guitar, but a a composer and guitar player he was in his own league unparalleled. I'm recording some tributes for him as I type.

Damn. I had a complete thyroidectomy a few years ago - also benign. It was just so large it made the endocrinologist nervous. But it sounds like yours was different. Mine had nothing to do with the sternum! Get well soon.

I updated but my most recent preset didn't make it. I saved the changes to Axe before I updated. I didn't save the preset though. Thankfully it's a variation of a previous preset. BUT here's what's weird - the preset says "EMPTY". Yet the FC-12 has the name of the preset.

Yeah they definitely are, but I use the fractal reverbs mostly for guitar as I want to be able to get the same sounds at the gigs. I use the reverbs for the rest of the band AND the guitar when mixing. But still defer to the Fractal effects for simplicity sake.

Axe-Edit keeps losing USB connection

Yeah, yeah. This is still annoying. Just now Axe-Edit III had been disconnected. The hub is connected to a thunderbolt hub. Every other device on that hub is working. I unplugged/replugged the USB cable several times, quit/powered on Axe-Edit. The only thing that brought it back was quitting...

I don't agree with this admonishment against DSP. I haven't found anything close to audible latency with either of my two monitors that use DSP. And not my XiTone wedges either.

Axe-Edit keeps losing USB connection

Yeah. I haven't bypassed the hub yet. Been busy. But the hubs are highly rated 3.0 and are not daisy chained to other hubs. Thunderbolt. It was great for two days then I just checked now - disconnected.

I've noticed this especially after the last update. Maybe the last two. I check the usb connections - the cable, hub on both ends. Plug it into another hub, make sure it's on. Then when I turn off/of Axe Fx III it reconnects. This is new behavior. I haven't seen this before. But then again...

Well it seems that the only plugin that's not downlaodable is this one. Or at least I downloaded Cesium fine. Maybe he got into a disagreement with Fractal or somebody and took is part down.

Understood. Me too! But just so you know the first "Apple" sequencers were MOTU Performer and Opcode's MidiMac. The first one's designed for Macintosh. Yeah, I'm that old. Logic was later bought by Apple. Way later.

I use Audeze. I also use the HD 650. I do a lot of mixing in the studio. I have some very nice monitors in a well treated studio so I really just use them to check mixes. I don't like wearing headphones for long term use. That said I'm very happy with my Audeze LCD-XC.

Considering buying a used AX-8

I mesan, I loved my AX-8. I did "buy up" but I think it's a great unit. The gap between presets didn't bother me all that much. I got an FM9 and a FM3 to replace. But that AX-8 is great either way.

Curious: how many use frfr or cab for “your” stage sound

About half or less of my gigs have no real FOH so I use my XiTones. I use them anyway. It's nice to have a mixer but doing a lot of jazz gigs means you're repsonsible for your own stage volume and sound. Smaller venues and clubs.

Wow. Understood. I just sold a FM9 after buying the turbo. I took a photo of it with my name and date but sold it on reverb. I did that for here. LOL. Maybe that helped me sell it there.

Anyone have issues with heat and live performance?

In direct sunlight I've lost the screen during the gig. I learned to throw a towel over it whenever I don't need to look at it, especially on breaks. Some of my presets and scenes don't change from song to song so I just throw a towel over it. But performance wise I never had an issue with it...

Yes! Stereo XLR into inputs 3/4 of my ULN-8. Then the dry DI goes into either track 1 or 2 of the same ULN-8. The ULN-8 has fantastic pres and is a great converter. I record analog because I often record at higher sampling rates like 96k.

Yes, if I understand your question. I don't use Axe Fx as an interface. I use XLR to plug into my interface and TRS for DI - reamping. It works very well.

Why is it necessary to apply high/lo pass filters to cabs?

I do it especially for live FRFR cabs. The full range is a bit unnatural for guitar cabs. The low end on my Xitone cabs takes up too much frequency and drives the bass player and FOH a little crazy. So I cut.

What is this audio phenomenon?

Sorry I haven't read through all the questions and answers, but is this only on one preset? Have you tried different amps, just to troubleshoot the Axe Fx? Have you eliminated all other blocks and one by one bring them back online? Amp settings? Saturation?

FM9T Hardware Specification/Upgrade

Absolutely! Metric Halo has been making high end audio interfaces since around 2001. They are all hardware and software upgrade-able. The ULN-2 I bought then is still in use many iterations later as a ULN-2 3D. The ULN-8 which came out I think 2004 is now ULN-8mkIV. I now have 7 ULN-8mkIVs...

Perhaps, but I came from a long line of two 12" cabs. I know. But FRFR should be able to be given the EQ curve to relatively match. This is what the question was about. Not going back to a power amp and guitar cabs.

THIS is probably closer to being it. I play and practice at lower volumes. But if I have time at sound check I still have to adjust the sound mainly by adjusting the lows.

Cool. But because of what I said regarding FOH and taking the outputs from output 2 while the cabs take out 1 (copied to out2) I'm not sure that's addressing the actual problem.

Cooper video is cool. I kind of do that with the graphic, not the filter. I'll try that next time. I also EQ the IR. I also use room and air settings. But those are better for in the studio than live.
