Introduction thread

Just my band name, No Politics. It gave me an error that went away when I took the name out. Weird.
So "No Politics" is the name of your band? It's showing up in your posts, so not sure what you mean.

At any rate, welcome! This is a great community. There are many helpful people here. If you run into trouble, the more information you can provide the more help you'll get.

Allow me to introduce... myself.

Just picked up my Fractal FM9 and I’m beyond excited to dive in! I’m especially looking forward to setting up the setlist function for my live gigs. My band plays mostly 80’s pop rock covers, and I play lead guitar on a Fender Strat HSS 70th Anniversary Amethyst... love that thing.

This is my first real step into the modeler world, and I can't wait to start building tones, dialing in scenes, and getting everything show-ready. Looking forward to learning from all of you and being part of the Fractal family!

See you around, and see you on stage!
Welcome!

Hello all, I've had my FM9 for about a year. It's amazing gear! I play guitar in an 80's band, and Fractal Audio makes guitar so much fun when you have all the tones at your feet - literally. Coming from an AxeFx2 in my studio, making the move to the stage was a no-brainer. I stuck with my fav FAS modern 2 head, which captures my sound perfectly. I send output 1 mono to FOH and I monitor on stage using a couple powerstage 200's with a stereo cab with redbacks. It's great for rehearsals too - so easy to carry in my little case. Thank you for this forum. I have been lurking for a while and enjoy everyone's contributions to this great resource.

Hi there :)

after Years of Playing my Big Soldano Rig i got convinced by two very good friends to try the FM3.
My last "Modeller" Experience was the "Toaster Profiler" for 2 hours in 2022... Before that the last one was the first Generation of the Line 6 POD :D

So my experience with modern Devices are almost zero. I got a used FM3 and could not be happier!
Same tone everywhere... Nice and Portable!

I still love my Tube Amp but i wont have to carry that 55 kg Cabinet around anymore!
Also the Fractal is so much more flexible... From "Clean Ambient" to "Rip your head off" with just one push of a button! :D

I started with my Yamaha Studio Monitors, but i added a Laney LFR 112 to get a more traditional feeling with the Sound coming from the floor.
I might add a second one of those!

I am looking forward to learn more about the Units here and having a good time.

Kind regards from Germany,
Christian

Happy to announce that I'm joining the cult later today after I pick up my FM3 Turbo.

What got me into Fractal is the focus on actual modelling i.e. the dedication to actually understand what makes these sounds work and how to morph them into whatever is needed, rather than simply grabbing some reprinted tone of someone else, which bores me to death. I'm seeing this spirit in the Fractal themselves but also the community which I learned a ton from already simply from lurking around here and browsing the wiki for a few days. It's really the only way I'm interested in all of this.

See you around.

Hi everyone!

I’m from Germany and new to the club. I got my FM3 last week to see whether it could finally deliver what my Helix never quite did for me. After a few days of testing, I sold my Helix — I’m much happier with the FM3’s sound and tweakability.

Looking forward to learning more and exchanging with you all!

Hi everyone! New here, just landed!
Just waiting my FM3 that is comming. I'm from Argentina (Buenos Aires)
I'm eager for it to arrive so I can play it. Cant wait!!!

I had played guitar for some years but I was never was more happy to hear differents sound with this kind of gear. I have another brand of multi-fx but I feel it's not what I wanted although it did introduce me to this world and give me a basic understanding.

So, I tought it for some days and had watched many videos of the cool sounds! And man, this community seem great, as well the fractal team (aswering all comments, and doing such a great job with the software updates), so I decided the purchased. It's a lot of money but what is happiness if we can't enjoy what we like?

Greatings to you all!

Hello everybody.
I do not own a Fractal yet but it's in my plans to get one for my rack. I'm a tube guy and probably forever will be, but the Fractal's FX offering is very attractive to me even if it's to be used just as an FX processor to complement my other rack FX units. Of course I would also enjoy the versatility of the preamp models to complement my setup for more particular/specific tones that are not as easy to dial-in on my amps.
Greetings from Canada!

Hey folks. My name's Noah and I'm a bedroom musician in NYC.
I make strange post-rock with strange influence points. I also write a strange musician interview blog.

I'm switching over to using an FM3 in hopes that it'll be my setup solution for both guitar and bass. Right now my approach to tone is basically 'just give me a clean tone and a cab sim with resonance/presence.' I use a low-gain morningglory on my guitar and mostly just preamp+DI my bass. I have no idea how I'll interact with the ridiculous range of cab/cab-combination/cab-mic choices I'm about to have with the FM3.

I'm curiously, confusedly apprehensive about the idea that I could sell all the pedals I own. It feels ridiculous but also .. it just makes more sense the more I think about it?

Hope some of y'all are future friends. Cheers

Welcome, @decemberhunting!

It’s not at all unusual to contemplate selling off pedals, amps and more. Many of us have done it. I still have a few pedals I keep around, mainly for nostalgia purposes. But my playing is pretty much all Fractal, as it has been for 15+ years.

Just don’t sell off a pedal until you’re comfortable that you’ve covered it in your FM3. You’ll know when that is. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome!!
I definitely have to play around with my time-based pedals and see how futureproof each one is.
For CPU reasons, and just ease-of-fiddling, some of them ought to stay around, but the time-based effects are already in danger of me getting more into the DAW. :)
(shoutout to the great granular plugin called 'Emergence' by Daniel Gergely, for example, which is putting my Microcosm in danger..)

Greetings back at you from Canada Mark! I made the move a few months ago coming from tube amps, highly recommended! The forums and resources are the best too :)

Same... Since 2013.

Hi - new user here, currently awaiting an FM9T. I've no real need for such a beast as only been playing a few years, but as a software engineer by trade I love deep diving into technology and what some might see as overly complex, I see the opposite. As for FM9 vs any of the others? It's amazing what AM4 and FM3 being out of stock will do :p I've tried a few cheap modellers and just never really loved the sounds so I'm hoping I'll grow into the FM9.
