Windows 11

So is there any more serious re-think about support for Fractal apps on Linux?? I would be VERY happy to ditch windogs for good!
Been discussed to death-still no from what we know and I have no problem with that.
Number 1-I have lots of time and $$$ , decades at least worth of music vsts and apps invested in windows and yes I hate win 11 as much as the next guy. But NOT enough to start all over at my age. I am slowly working my way back to win 10.
I thought win 10 was, well, OK.............

Yeah I am in that circumstance too at this point. I just wonder how much worse win has to get before EVERYONE abandons it for a return to science-centric systems vs. business-centric systems. I feel that I am in a bit of a unique position as I have long held a degree from the oldest Computer Science department in the country and as far as I am concerned it is my reasonably well informed opinion that, having closely watched it all from the very beginning, microsoft has almost single-handedly spawned the almost complete destruction of the integrity of the science of computing software with their nearly blind focus on profiteering. apple with its closed system approach is even worse on that front. But then, what does integrity really mean in this world anymore? The word might just as well be officially deprecated from modern language. It seems very few people now will ever miss it.

That’s not gonna happen. Most people aren’t wired for scientific stuff, and business-centric stuff has a much larger audience. And way more money.

Remember a few years back when spyware was a major concern? You don’t hear about spyware anymore — because now, the OS is spyware. Can’t be promoting software that prevents you from using your main revenue-generating tool.

Capitalism is a fine thing. Unregulated capitalism becomes dictatorship.

Microsoft, Apple, Google, and all the Big Data companies do it. Microsoft gave away Windows — turning away billions of dollars of revenue — because they can make even more billions by owning your data.

Integrity is still very much alive. It’s just been driven underground. Keep living a high-minded life. You will attract others who do the same. :)

I should add that one thing I learned from working for a large corporation:
The brightest and most talented don't rise to the upper echelons of leadership. The ones who bend the rules and ignore morality do. The ones who save the company a few million dollars by dumping toxic waste into someone's backyard are the ones who get rewarded.

The last time I worked for a corporation was in 2001-2002. I was hired as an accountant but ended up doing programming work for them. Over the course of 18 months, I took a small 5 man division (a company they had bought years back) that they could not sell for $750k (they tried hard) and turned it into a product they sold for $5 mil. They gave me a $1,500 bonus and laid me off. NEVER AGAIN, I'd rather flip burgers or become a sanitation engineer.

Sounds like my story. I invented a phased-array sonar for this company. Their sales went from $3M to $18M overnight. They sold the company to a big conglomerate who then froze my pay, cut my office in half and reduced our benefits (along the old HR person trying to tell us with a straight face how the new health care was better even though we got less benefits).

The last straw was when, with a wink and nod, they strongly suggested who I should donate to and vote for in the upcoming Senate race. I tendered my resignation and started Fractal Audio.

Let's see it this way: if it wasn't for those greedy individuals, you'd probably still be working on sonars and the best gear company in the world would have never existed. So thank'em and fuck'em at the same time 😁

You blessed us all with your decision and drive! Kudos on the incredible path you followed ;~))

Ahhhh, my latest Windows 11 "entertainment"....installed some new software and it created program shortcuts on my desktop.

When I try to either remove or move them to another desktop folder I get "There is not enough memory to complete this operation".

I cannot move or delete them off my desktop. Searching around the internet for solutions only yield things like "reboot the computer", or "check virtual memory setting and/or a full system drive", etc.

Haven't gotten to the bottom of this yet.....another brick in the wall....yay.
