But enough joking.

The wait is over.

I have infiltrated the FAS R&D Bunker in Cheyenne Mountain (leased from the DoD) and got some intel.

Finally, "tone is in the fingers" has been actualized and mass produced for the common man.

Introducing..... "DOOM"

Digitally Optimized Orthotic Modeling

Name TBD by marketing. These are not your dad's finger booties.

Get in line.

That's old-school "digital" hardware there. FM5?

Sorry, but just having the ability to hook something up to the computer does not make it an interface. I know you can record guitars via USB, but interfaces have at least one mic pre and can do more than 48k recording. Most who are serious about recording don't even use that feature as we have real audio interfaces available.

On that topic, that market is at least as saturated as the mixer market. Fractal has a history of innovation within their main area of expertise and I'm sure whatever they are cooking will be amazing.

Sorry, but you're confidently wrong. There are plenty of interfaces new and old that have no mic preamps or XLR inputs and don't do anything above 48khz. MOTU Firewire interfaces of yore are the most obvious examples and they're one of several manufacturers that make interfaces without mic preamps with the assumption that one would be using outboard gear for this purpose. The Axe-Fx is absolutely a real audio interface (though perhaps not a purpose-built one). On a similar note: choosing to skip two inherently-unnecessary steps of conversion by using AES/SPDIF instead of an outboard interface doesn't make one "[un]serious" so much as it just means that they prefer a different workflow.

Are there any DSP nerds in here familiar with recent developments? If there was a cheaper, smaller new DSP out that runs cool and consumes much less power, yet would be powerful enough to run individual Fractal blocks, it would be a clue of maybe a small, affordable stomp-size unit coming. Wouldn’t that be cool!
