Can you dump out a preset SysEx file from the axe-fx to something like midiox or SysEx librarian?

That would take Axe-Edit out of the equation?

I don't have a II and have not had an ultra in a while, so can't test it myself.... Otherwise I would.

Good idea. I'll try that.

Because on my system everything is okay, I need your help.
If someone would be so kind to test the presets in the zipped file and report back.
Presets have stock cabs.

If that doesn't work, here's the URL in plain text: http:/members.ziggo.nl/alexandervanengelen/test.zip

Preset "XTC saved unlinked"
This preset has global blocks (on the Axe-Fx II). During export I selected "Unlink global blocks".
This is the same preset as was posted before. Based on the reports above this should result in NO SIGNAL (for some reason).

Preset "XTC saved linked"
This preset contains global blocks (on the Axe-Fx II). During export I did NOT select "Unlink global blocks".
Do you get sound? Are blocks on your system pointing to global slots?

Preset "XTC no globals"
This time I unlinked all blocks on the Axe-Fx II itself. Of course I did NOT selected "Unlink global blocks" during export. This should work okay because the preset itself doesn't contain global blocks.
Do you get sound? Are all blocks unlinked after loading?

I'll also try it when I get home tonight Alex. For right now, it's 'Off to work I go'. I'm tellin' you, this work thing just keeps getting in the way. ;-)

Here are two presets again. This time I used the Dump Preset option instead of Axe-Edit.

XTC with globals
This preset has global blocks.

XTC no globals
And this one doesn't (unlinked on the Axe-Fx II itself).

Let's see what the results are this time. :)

Strange, I checked both presets again and both have blocks. I checked on both my Macs.

To be sure, I recorded the sysex from the AfxII again and refreshed the files above. Nothing else I can do, I think.

I'll check on them again tomorow morning.

Edit : Checked and confirmed Mark_Melling's findings.

No globals works fine.

Globals no sound, changed the amps, cab, still nothing.

Okay, this is as expected. :)

Thanks!

"With globals" should indeed generate problems on other (your) systems, because all the blocks link to saved globals, which are not present on those systems.

And because "No globals" now evidently works fine as a dumped file, it confirms that the issue lies within Axe-Edit.

It's just too much work to unlink all my presets on the Axe-Fx II before dumping them as sysex, so I hope an Axe-Edit upgrade will fix this.

Too much work, Mark. I use a lot of globals, at least 2 for each fx block (one for ON, one for OFF).
And people wouldn't manually set those params anyway, I guess.

I had in mind it was just global amps not for all the FX blocks as well..i see now!

A new Edit pronto then!! :)

Flexibility ...
Switched to "pure" EVM cabs again. :)
Alex,
A couple questions on FRFR speakers. I've got K10's and K12's. I've been using one K12 for the Axe II. I like it better than the K10 with the Axe II.

Do you always run a pair of wedges?

Do you always have them facing back at you in the monitor position or do you ever have a situation where you place them behind you, sending the audio out to the audience as well?

On the QSC K series, QSC recommends enabling the switch on the back to 'Ext Sub' when using it as a floor monitor. I'm sure you're aware, this enables the crossover which is a 100 Hz high-pass filter. This is to prevent excessive bass buildup on stage. Just wondering whether you would suggest leaving the setting on 'Normal' or 'Ext Sub'?

BTW, those EVM's are getting a lot of press lately. They must be nice, yes?

Thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe, (no pun intended) :)

Of the FR monitor solutions I've tried, I like the K12 the best. Tone is good, it has two channels and great connectivity.
I put it in front of me when using it as a personal monitor, or behind me when it had to fill the room (backline amp) in small bars or when rehearsing.
I engaged the ExtSub switch, otherwise the tone would be much too boomy.

I switched to guitar cabs with EV speakers indeed. Now the K12 is only used by me when I play my acoustic (got a gig tonight). On other occasions our bass player uses it as his monitor.
EVs are great but not for everybody. Some players find them a bit harsh and direct and unforgiving. You really have to dial in the tones. Out of the box a regular V30 is easier to work with, but at the same time offer far less flexibility than an EVM.
