Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 12.00 Public Beta

So, I noticed that on the Fractal itself everything is working fine. So, I think it might be just a Axe Edit III. I just uninstalled it and waiting for it to reinstall to see if it works.

I narrowed it down to the Axe Edit. After I uninstalled Axe Edit and reinstalled it works better but still not what I would consider acceptable.

Explanation of the phaser types:

Script 45 = MXR Phase 45 (script)

Block 90 = MXR Phase 90 (block)

Script 90 = MXR Phase 90 (script)

Classic Vibe = Fulltone Deja Vibe

Barber Pole = "Shepard tone" effect

Stripe 90 = MXR EVH Phase 90

Naughty Rock = EHX Bad Stone

FAS Vibe = custom phaser

Treadle Phaser = Morley Pro-Phase (phaser with pedal)

Virtuoso Phaser = Maestro Phaser

Borg Phaser = Korg PHS-1

Ultra-Super-Mega Phaser = custom phaser

Mutated Twin-Phaser = Mutron BiPhase

Thanks Yek.

I wish effects types (and amp types for that matter) could just be named after the actual pedal/amp that they are modeled after....

Or, alternatively, if there was a way to give users the ability to give "custom names" to these effects/amps locally... even if only accessible in Axe-Edit, it would be a nice addition... a short varchar(32) for "friendly names / custom names"?

Could greatly help out new Fractal users to identify things, and even for veterans, it would be a nice convenience.

I don’t think FAS is the one to wish this to, more like the lawyers for Dunlop, Marshall, EHX etc if/when Fractal started saying it had EHX, MXR, Marshall etc....

I mean, just go and make your own phaser pedal and use MXR logos, or an amp with the word Marshall on it etc.... watch the C&S letter show up soon after

you can say it’s based on, you can copy a circuit, you can use similar sounding names, but you can’t copy the exact name without the rights/permission

12.00

Added “2x12 Godzilla” Speaker Impedance Curve based on a Zilla Fatboy.

Complete overhaul of the Flanger block. See the included flanger.pdf document for details.

Complete overhaul of the Phaser block. See the included phaser.pdf document for details.

Added separate Filter Slope controls for the Cabinet block. The range of the slopes has been extended to include 18 and 24 dB/octave. Existing presets will be automatically updated to the correct values based on the previous Filter Slope value.

Added separate Low Cut Slope control for Delay block. Updated models accordingly.

Added “FAS Express” amp model based on hypothetical modifications to a Trainwreck Express.

Improved messaging system so that changing presets while Axe-Edit is running does not cause audio dropout (requires Axe-Edit version 1.4.00 or later).

Improved Scene switching speed.

Added LFO Quantize to Filter, Flanger and Phaser blocks.

Added Triggering to Tremolo block. When the Tremolo is triggered the Tremolo will engage and the LFO. phase will start at the Start Phase value. This allows easily synchronizing the Tremolo to your playing. Set to “OFF” to defeat the trigger.

Added Optical Tremolo type to Tremolo block.

Addded “Astable” type to LFOs. This simulates an astable Op-amp Multivibrator as is commonly found in effect pedals. “Beta” controls the shape of the LFO. High values approach a square wave while low values approach a triangle wave.

Added Stack/Hold parameter to Plex Delay and Plex Verb types in the Plex block. When set to STACK incoming audio is stacked on existing audio and held. When set to HOLD existing audio is held.

Changed Hold parameter in Delay block to Stack/Hold (see above).

Changed Hold parameter in Reverb block to Stack/Hold (see above).

Added “OD 250” Drive model based on a DOD Overdrive 250 (gray version).

Added adjustable slope to Parametric EQ block for outer bands when type is set to BLOCKING.

Added LFO monitors to Control block.

Drive block EQ now supports placement pre- or post-distortion.

Added “Stereo Mind Guy” delay type.

Added ULTRA-HIGH quality mode to Reverb block. This mode increases the modulation at the expense
of a slight increase in CPU usage.

Fixed loss of precision in certain amp models (i.e. Plexi 50W Normal) when Input Drive is set very low.

Fixed Align tab in Cabinet block not displaying traces properly after changing channels/scenes from Axe- Edit.

wow! maybe this should have been firmware 13 or 15. Looks like we get a lot of goodies for only one number

Is it possible for a man to be in love with a firmware version?

Yes, it is possible for a man to be in love with a firmware version.

That man is me. That firmware is 12.0.
You're not alone, I've only tried the phaser till now and it is unbelievably good, classic vibe is chewy and the ultra-mega-hyper-super-thing... the name says it all.

@Cooldrewb I’m having a super slow axe edit response as well, although I haven’t had a chance to try the beta AE yet- I will tonight. Everything on the Axe itself is fine, but AE is being pokey. Took about ten minutes to updated blocks, cabs, etc when I first booted. Again though, everything on my actual Axe is fine, and it sounds like a million bucks.

Yeah, I get that there might be legalities with Fractal doing it... though if you see what Behringer has been doing with synth replicas, they mention the specific classic units that is the "inspiration for" their products in their product detail pages... and use model names that are virtually identical (like one-letter or one-number different).

Anyways, that's why I mentioned that maybe Fractal could just add a field accessible in the unit (or just in Axe-Edit) that would allow users to have custom/friendly names for effects types or amp types. It would probably involve adding a short text field... that way there would be no legal implications, and would just be a way for users to store the info locally.

Not a big deal, but it would be convenience. I've been using for seven years now, and still end up doing lookups on Yek's guides, or Wiki or forum searches for amp models and effects models.

Slow Axe Edit? Got a FC controller? Please unplug it and see what happens, head over to the Axe Edit forum to follow up please. Fixes my issues, thanks.

download went fine...the only peculiarity is the preset i use all the time flipped the amp model to 59 bass guy

Some info from AXE-EDIT page:

Okay, I've isolated the issue and can reproduce the it on my system at least.

It's my FC6. When I unhook the FC6 (don't even need to reboot Axe or Edit, just unplug the FasLink cable), my AxeEdit behaves as normal, with response times that i'm used to. Plug the FC6 back in - it's molasses. Can anybody else confirm?
Good catch, verified and confirmed exactly what you said with my FC-12. Hopefully that helps @Michael Pickens
Added: FC-12 works fine when plugged back in. Used Frac Pad v3.25 and it takes awhile to load but once loaded it works fine unlike the new version of AXE-EDIT
