Yes. I started with the 5-knob, but it was either too clean or to harsh for this tone. I added the 3-knob in the front to add some subtle grit without getting into destroyer zone.
Neat!
I'd love to check out the preset if you're up for sharing it - no pressure.

I saw moving pictures it was amazing - if you ever saw Neal Peart throw his drum sticks up and I mean high then catch them again and continue on - it was incredible- I'm a drummer I was blown away
Lots of practice, I’ll bet! I saw them on every tour starting with signals. And I saw them twice on the vapor trails and Time Machine tours, because it was about a year apart on the same tour!

I bought a Hiwatt Custom 100 and my bass player bought a Hiwatt 200 in the mid 70's after seeing these bands live: King Crimson, ELP, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, and The Who. All of them using Hiwatts. All of them sounded great.

John Entwhistle, John Wetton, and Greg Lake all sounded fantastic using Hiwatts for bass. Really hit you in the chest.

I still have my Hiwatt 100 and would never get rid of it. It has a beautiful clean sound, kind of like a giant Vox AC30. I still use it for both guitar and bass.

If you want to use them for anything other than a clean (or slight edge of breakup) sound you have to use pedals with them, as even turned all the way up they do not have much distortion at all. You have to know how to use them.
David Gilmour has no problem getting great sounds out of Hiwatts.

Fremen has a good sounding Pink Floyd Axe FXIII presets pack.

Most of Fremen's PF presets are using Friedman BE V1 Fat and Matchbox D-30

His live rig is a huge "problem" :D

He has a Trainwreck (Wrecker) and a Alessandro at his studio

Saw many Rush shows back to FWTK - what amps he played then is all a blur to me now but I know he had a Hiwatt period.

For me, the R+R face of Hiwatt is, without a doubt, >>

I think in the early or mid 80’s he was using Dean Markley amps.

I remember reading an interview with Dave and he said always starts with a pure, clean, full-bodied, warm tone via the Hiwatt and starts to pile on distortion on top of that with pedals/outboard gear.

I'm experimenting with the Hiwatt in the FM9 for the first time for my clean tone vs the Deluxe Verb Vibrato as it seems to work better with my Suhr Modern/SSV+ neck pickup...I'm finding it a bit more full-bodied and lively but need to play around with it more.

Yeah, that's why they're really excellent pedal platforms, you really hear a pedal's voice thru them.
But when you crank/boost them quite a bit I don't find them sterile at all, tones get quite creamy and chewy with the right amount of power amp compression/distortion... The problem is you risk becoming sterile at that point, due to the spl 😅
To my ears, the have a very narrow sweet spot. Low level, they sound clean, a bit more they are round and warm, a bit more and they compress and dull the sound (yet they have lots of highs)... the spl for right spot is outrageous, fit for an arena! :)
