But many Gilmour fans consider his PULSE tones the holy grail, and that was all alembic+hiwatt+doppolas.
Anyway, KitRae's site, even though it has a bit more confusionary organization, is much more detailed and reliable than Gilmourish.

PS: Btw, he also has a page dedicated to the history of the tube driver, worth mentioning since it's related to this update: https://www.kitrae.net/music/Music_mp3_Tube_Driver_Versions.html

Wow, now there is a deep-dive into Gilmour's various rigs/amp. The Tube Driver dissection is crazy deep....!

It's weird but when I first added bias tremolo in the Amp block I noticed it was ducking and was trying to figure out how to prevent that. Then I fired up a Princeton and noticed that the tremolo ducked. I came to appreciate the ducking aspect.

I doubt whoever came up with bias tremolo intended ducking to be desirable, it was just a side effect of the circuit design and the reason for that design is that it was inexpensive. Harmonic tremolo used two tubes and bunch of resistors and caps. Photocells hadn't been invented yet IIRC.

A bias tremolo only requires half a 12AX7A and a handful of passives. Of course it also beats the cr@p out of the power tubes...
I love the bias tremolo for Immigrant Song. You get the full weight of the initial power chords and then the tremolo once the E settles in. It works perfectly for trying to do both tremolo and non-tromolo guitar parts with one guitar.

Ok guys, here is a juiced Rectifier(Loadish tone) with a tube driver in front. As I posted a few days back, these butler drives LOVE dual recs. SUPER thick with monster low end, right on the cusp of falling apart/sounding flubby, but still tight. A few things fellas; it sounds killer on my system, but remember variables/ fletcher munsun etc. I play pretty damn loud and sit indian style right next to my 2x12 FRFR rig. Crank it. If it sounds honky or quacky, reduce the mids I added in the input eq(amp block). If its too gained out, reduce the input trim. My reasoning is I built the preset around my epi 84 explorer, and the emg 81 needed input mids/ trim to "unmud' all that dang compression. For my hot passives/ hotter hetset I can roll the trim back to 1 or so. There is also a right channel .ir for those of you who want to pan/ stereo. And i realize the tube drive isn't the 4/5 knob, so i rolled back bass in the extras/eq menu for the drive. Enjoy

A great read. Would never have guessed they had anything at all to do with Mesa Boogie amps.

So the 5 knob tube drive model is a copy, of a copy, of a copy, of a copy. That we now have as a digital copy, a digital copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy. (my head hurts)

Lol....the Inception of guitar pedals, both analog and digital, it would seem. We must proceed with caution...

Sometimes a copy is better than nuttin! Sometimes it's worse.

I would bank that CC's "copy" of whatever drive is faithful to its design and transfer function beyond most human's ability to discern. It might actually be more faithful to intended designs due to lack of tolerances in components. So it might be better than real factory produced copies.

We must proceed with caution...
We must!

But will we???
