Tube Drive 3-knob + Tube Drive 5-knob + Wrecker Liverpool

I've never have been satisfied with the Hiwatts. I find them quite sterile. I believe that these beasts are designed to make you deaf on the stage, not to bring juice. That is why some people needs to add Alembic Preamps and other extravagances to make the Hiwatts juicy :D The Wrecker has both juice and balls.

I have reamped an old recording for this

Real ones are sterile. They're more like Hi-Fi amps than guitar amps.

Probably the reason Pete went kind of deaf. 🧏‍♂️

I feel so relieved to hear this. I thought I was missing something never liking the models. I usually assume it's a me problem.
Early 70s bassman 100 sounds pretty similar to the hiwatt DRs if Johan Segeborns video is anything to go by.

Yeah, that's why they're really excellent pedal platforms, you really hear a pedal's voice thru them.
But when you crank/boost them quite a bit I don't find them sterile at all, tones get quite creamy and chewy with the right amount of power amp compression/distortion... The problem is you risk becoming sterile at that point, due to the spl 😅

I bought a Hiwatt Custom 100 and my bass player bought a Hiwatt 200 in the mid 70's after seeing these bands live: King Crimson, ELP, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, and The Who. All of them using Hiwatts. All of them sounded great.

John Entwhistle, John Wetton, and Greg Lake all sounded fantastic using Hiwatts for bass. Really hit you in the chest.

I still have my Hiwatt 100 and would never get rid of it. It has a beautiful clean sound, kind of like a giant Vox AC30. I still use it for both guitar and bass.

If you want to use them for anything other than a clean (or slight edge of breakup) sound you have to use pedals with them, as even turned all the way up they do not have much distortion at all. You have to know how to use them.
David Gilmour has no problem getting great sounds out of Hiwatts.

Fremen has a good sounding Pink Floyd Axe FXIII presets pack.
