27.03

Improved Drive block.

Improved PI Fuzz model. The new model also allows changing the type and quantity of diodes used in the transistor feedback paths, adds a “Wicker” switch which removes the feedback capacitors and adds a “Tone” switch which allows bypassing the tone circuitry.

Added “PI Fuzz – Triangle” model. This is based on a 1971 “Triangle” Big Muff PI. Thie model also includes the Tone Wicker mods.

Added “PI Fuzz – Ram’s Head” model. This is based on mid-70’s “Ram’s Head” Big Muff PI. The model also includes the Tone Wicker mods.

Added “Colortone Booster” model based on a Colorsound Power Booster (with added Master control).

Added “Colortone OD” model based on a Colorsound Overdriver (with added Master control).

Fixed Phaser block LFO Reset now working properly for some types.

Fixed wrong Miller capacitance value in Brit 800 models (probably not audible).

Various other fixes and improvements.
This just simply affirms for me why I have never ever regretted buying a fractal ax iii. Simply the best then and keeps getting better.
 
@FractalAudio I feel ashamed to ask the obvious... but the input load could be emulated? With a parameter called "virtual guitar volume"?
This way, if we attach a controller to both VGV and input level/gain it will act exactly like rolling guitar volume. Or am I missing something?
Input Gain control we already have, it's definitely useful.

But the guitar volume control / impedance interactions are more complex. They're tricky enough that rather than emulate them, Fractal chose to include physical hardware to make the input impedance of the Axe actually change like it would if you had the physical pedals in your patch hooked up.

I assume they wouldn't have done that if it was practical to emulate those effects digitally.
 
everyone excited by the new fuzz options, please try them in front of fas bass (master on 8-10) and your favourite IRs, its a ton of fun.
 
Fuzz Tip 1: The tone control on the Ram's Head does is awesome. Change it up when you record doubles or triples for tones with the bulk and presence of a giant Pleistocene mammal. Tip 2: Turn up Low Cut (EQ2 page) on this model and it becomes a bit more forgiving of the thumps you feed it.

I have a wishlist request for a future hardware version, for something simulating the tone and volume knobs together, to be able to load the pickups physically at the input as if you were rolling them back to different positions.

To me an ideal would be to choose different values of pot values and cap values, even different treble bleeds, then set the pot at different settings with a knob on the Axe-FX IV, e.g. I love setting tones with my knobs rolled back on the guitar, and this would automate that as part of presets, or really, scenes and blocks, that could maybe even be attached to a modifier.

I've been shopping for fuzz pedals all morning as I hadn't gotten along with the current Big Muff models. Then I see Leon's new video and sure enough, I've got a bunch of new fuzz pedals to play with for free in the Axe FX!

Sounds like an expensive feature to add to the hardware for everyone, but could be a cool MIDI controlled device you could put in front of your fractal device, or any amp or modeler, tbh.

The hardware is a fixed choosen value. What I get (if I had it right!) is that the load of the guitar (that depends on PU/volume/tone) affect the input impedance of the fuzz. Similar to what happen in an OT, where we have an impedance curve (we can select different cab imp). Well, I guess something similar would work to emulate the interaction between guitar and fuzz, instead of different curve we have a parameters to tell the fuzz where the impedance is. Maybe I am wrong, Cliff nows all that and more... now the fuzzes sound awesome at the given setting, but lost the magic of rolling guitar volume...

A virtual input impedance curve would be enough... :)
