God! I remember that pedal, the smell of the box and my Dad laughing cause it looked like it'd been made in the same factory they made the Russian tanks he spent his career in the British Army training to fight
Yes this one as always been « the one » to me, I regret to not have bought one in the 90’s . The price are mad now pfff .

It sound darker and bigger than the US version, it is the special weapon of many alternative bands . I still own the US one but yeah …
I have bought the mini green version of the pedal, it isn’t bad, but that’s not the big one , sold… same for the mini op amp one, not really good

Super :)
But:
In the TAP and HOLD settings of the BANK category, you can assign the INC/DEC function and jump by a value from 1 to 10. It would be much more efficient if holding the BANK key would cause a smooth down/up movement until the key is released. This type of solution is common in many guitar floor processors and midi foot controllers (it was like that in Axe 2). When can we finally expect it - the promise was there :D

Can you actually explain the auto input impedance a little more?

I read the Fractal wiki a while back and my takeaway was that the direct connection between a fuzz and the guitar pickups is something that can't be modeled because all digital devices inherently buffer the signal at the input. But I wasn't sure if that information was outdated and only referred to older fractal units.

Does the auto input impedance effectively solve that problem? And how? If it does, why couldn't you use a wireless in front of the fractal unit? Wouldn't the auto impedance "correct" it or am I not understanding it right.

I think everyone else got to your answers first! I don't know much more than what I wrote, and others can explain the reasons better, sorry! The one thing I can say is, I think the reason the wireless takes away the interaction is that it prevents the Axe-FX III input from connecting to your pickup directly, thereby loading it. I can't explain loading very well, so maybe someone could explain better how it does what it does!

Create a wish... This Firmware update thread is not the right place.

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Notes

27.03

Improved Drive block.

Improved PI Fuzz model. The new model also allows changing the type and quantity of diodes used in the transistor feedback paths, adds a “Wicker” switch which removes the feedback capacitors and adds a “Tone” switch which allows bypassing the tone circuitry.

Added “PI Fuzz – Triangle” model. This is based on a 1971 “Triangle” Big Muff PI. Thie model also includes the Tone Wicker mods.

Added “PI Fuzz – Ram’s Head” model. This is based on mid-70’s “Ram’s Head” Big Muff PI. The model also includes the Tone Wicker mods.

Added “Colortone Booster” model based on a Colorsound Power Booster (with added Master control).

Added “Colortone OD” model based on a Colorsound Overdriver (with added Master control).

Fixed Phaser block LFO Reset now working properly for some types.

Fixed wrong Miller capacitance value in Brit 800 models (probably not audible).

Various other fixes and improvements.
Is it a Gilmour party?! 🎉

Until today the 3-knob-Tubedriver was the only drive that worked for me, (with a lot of tweaking), but this has become MY sound. And now,

.... something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes and leap
It's time to try defying gravity
I think I'll try defying gravity
And you can't pull me down

ähm, sorry. Don´t know what happens. I´m a very happy customer, I think!
So much great drives! BB, Modded Tube sreamer, 4-knob Tube driver, Timothy ....- what is happening?

So there's a PI FUZZ model now and a separate PI FUZZ - TRIANGLE model? (Can't check, not near my III)
What's the first based on? It used to be on the triangle version (release notes fw 4.00).
The PI Fuzz model is based on the latest Big Muff PI that EHX sells.

The Triangle version is based on a 1971 Big Muff PI. The Ram's Head is based on a mid-70's version.

What a great update ( again) : the new big muffs are outstanding, plus the possibilities you have messing with the diodes, the different ways to alter tone, give you tons of possibilities to make your own version. Lots of fun here… Thanks again Cliff.

@FractalAudio I feel ashamed to ask the obvious... but the input load could be emulated? With a parameter called "virtual guitar volume"?
This way, if we attach a controller to both VGV and input level/gain it will act exactly like rolling guitar volume. Or am I missing something?

So spill the beans!
What diodes did you use?
Do we have them or something close?
Have you tried your special recipe with the beta?
I found the order of when I bought them on ebay 5 years ago and it seems my memory served me well, they're D9E indeed, with a Vf comprised between 0.21 and 0.23.

Btw, if you want to get a taste of what it sounds like, i had shared a NAM capture of it a while ago:

Everybody hyped up about Gilmour but I’m just here looking forward to building thick walls of doom-y stoner-y goodness with all the new goodies.
Hehe same here . When I think « fuzz » I think of alternative music 😅

Look what you can do with a big green Russian muff and octaver : (from one of the best alternative Italian band)
