Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 4.01 Public Beta

The presets are 'backward compatible' with the AxeFx also regardless of whether that feature is there. They will still load and will very likely be transparently improved.

It's been clarified on multiple occasions what was meant by backwards compatible within the context of presets, though I think the term forward compatible is more apropos. Specifically, while a preset will, in fact, function, the lack of continuity in maintaining the integrity of the sound is a compatibility issue. However, I'd be glad to adopt the term preset continuity. It makes no difference to me as long as we're on the same page.

I doubt any of the other cited products, if they were to improve their core modeling algorithms at all, would offer any guarantee that the old stuff sounded the same if the improvement was making an audible difference in newly created presets with the same model. Fact is, Fractal is the only company where this is a major issue because they constantly and aggressively improve their core algorithms.

I never claimed that changing the core modeling of those units wouldn't beget the same issue, but that they don't currently suffer from said issue after upgrading. As such, preset continuity is the accepted norm and generally expected. In fact, I've heard it used as a criticism leveled at the Axe on other forums.

IMHO, expecting to move forward in fundamental processes (like say how preamp tubes a re modeled) and expecting presets to NOT also sound different is unreasonable.

The issue has undoubtedly already been resolved. At this point the issue is whether the functionality remains in order to extend the upgrade cycle for MK I and II users.

Think i found a BUG in the cab block.. it`s the 12dB or 6dB FILTER slope.. option. Try a block with X state 6dB.. and Y state with 12 dB.. now make 2 scenes.. go back and forth. It pops :)

Mark I User here.

Would some one try this out,and report it ??

I can't test this right now..is this a bug?

The Rectos sound great ... even in 4.0 they were pretty happening ... 4.01 is a little "brighter" - but I haven't tried to change that character (yet). (Both vintage and modern.)

I will go play with the drive clipping now… :)

Always dig these updates. Thank you FAS and team. :D

No, I am not. Cliff said that disabling different amp model versions for the Mk1/2 only was too much work. I am suggestion removing these blocks for the Mk1/2 instead as it's probably less work removing whole blocks for the Mk1/2 only instead of removing code in many places inside the Amp block. I'm not suggesting removing anything in the XL/XL+.
gotcha, thank for clarifying. i still think you're only slightly prolonging the inevitable. As an XL+ owner I wouldn't mind giving up the FW option to help MK 1 & II owners stay alive for a while longer

It has tubes in it. Tubes aren't susceptible to EMP's, so we're good!
It has internet in it????
