Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 3.03 Firmware Release

Wow! I just installed FW 3.03. Made a preset with info from video
New video for the new METALLICA MKIIC++ amp model in Q3.03! YEAAHHH

This "New USA IIC++ amp model" sounds amazing! I compared the sound of this to my go to Fractal amp model and it sounds so much more defined. Mind blown again. :D

I did the same as you. I was originally disappointed with the IIC++ (sounded so damn wooly and not tight with my guitar). Thanks to that video though, I followed the guidelines for setting the EQ and now I can't stop playing it!

So I was the guy complaining about the last firmware and decided to stay on 1.6. Then I saw this metallica amp and upgraded. Holy crap maybe something was wrong with my ears. I can't believe how real this sounds. Not sure if something was wrong last time or not. All my presets from 1.6 sound incredible.

Just Mesa MKIII anymore and i will never need any other amps! ;)
I have one, MkIII Purple plug - without Graphic EQ.
When i got it in '84 and until mid '90s, the tubes would glow blue and wore out quite quickly, and fuse would blow and tubes would self destruct on occasion - BUT the amp sounded UNBELIEVABLY good the way it was. I didn't know at the time that fixing the problem meant taming to the tone. The fix, given to me by Mesa themselves, was to replace one resistor on each output tube, with a different value, close to 2k7 Ohm, 1Watt or 1/2 Watt.

So i placed a parallel cluster of 1/8 Watt resistors in each to reach a 2.7kohm component instead, and the tube circuit eventually chose to gang up on one particular 1/8 Watt resistor, as they tend to do, until the resistor burned out. I now have 10 Watt resistors, which is way over spec. but they are large and may be inductive or capacitively couple with other parts of the amp circuitry. I would love to have some input on the best mods, but most of all, i'd like to know the value of the original resistors, and why they used them. For some reason 6.8K Ohm comes to mind, but it was so long ago.. i can kinda see the blue of the color code band...

I only got round to playing on the new Metallica amp this weekend, and what a great amp model it is!

It was cool dialling in different tones I would use with it, from shreddy 80s sounding tones to seven string stuff, then to just dial in famous metallica tones after with like zero effort, just a little initiative!

Sick amp! Thanks again FAS for the free gift! x

So I'm really enjoying the hiatus from firmware updates - it's been nice to focus more on playing than tweaking. :p. That said, it has been awfully quiet given the fast and furious pace of the last few months. I hope everything is ok in FASland and Cliff is just taking a well deserved break! :)

I'm going to stop saying that this box can't/won't get any better or being surprised when Cliff finds a way. I LOVE the new Metallica amp. It has the serious mojo. I was playing 'tallica but lots of other stuff with it. So good.

I know I should be focused on writing, but here I am checking the status of firmwares. I was so spoiled early this year that its like, no new firmware here in a month is the guitar gear equivalent to medically "going cold turkey". So friends are keeping me under observation. (of course, they always do anyway.)

Lol, I love the MP1. Damn, why did I sell it? Oh yes, needed money for car repairs or something; parked outside of guitar center put a sign out gear for sale, and the manager came and asked if i wanted to work for them. I remember the days. Pretty limited compared to the Axe FX, but a distinct sound from who knows what? Not very much to it, I would guess, but is the circuitry well known?

Totally agree with you, It is nothing like the AXE FX, but it just had a very distinct Metal Tone! Listen to Skid Row's Debut Album, or Extreme's Pornograffitti! Awesome Tones! LOL
