5150 build.

All the best pictures I have for details are much later than the era I am doing so I have to use era correct ones to see what marks are present and reverse engineer them from the best ones.
I also need to set up the projector again to mark out exact sizes and position of the tape damage.

Isn’t this meant to be a fun project for me🤣
It turned into a professional challenge.

Gotta say, the level of detail and effort you're into here is pretty astonishing! Hats off!

What will you do with it when it's "done", if such a thing exists?

Got a start on the back,
I set up the projector and penned in some key shapes. I did used to use pencil but it rubs off while you’re working. This comes off when you need it too and most of it will go in the relic work anyway.

Normally you would mask the bare wood section but this was an NOS replica I decided to relic.

Can’t stop working on the front either. Particularly the forearm contour. Looks better now.

Developed some ways of getting the texture to look right close up;

Gotta say, your work is scary good. Most builders (or buyers) would be ecstatic if you'd stopped working several iterations ago. Your relicking (relicing? relic'ing? any way you write that, it looks wrong :)) is as close to looking like time did the deed as anything I've ever seen. I think you're approaching the point where maybe a dozen people in the world would know it's not the real thing.

Thanks that is very kind. It sort of turned in to a challenge.🤣.

The major issue to figure out is the fingerboard.
I have played this neck for a couple of years so it is discoloured slightly too much for the clean lacquer covered parts. It looks like an unbroken version of how it is now.

I was aiming for somewhat earlier but it looks like a mixture atm.
