    I believe the main drawback to using a latching foot switch is that when you load a preset, it doesn’t read the current state of the footswitch. This means, depending on whether the switch is open or closed, you may have to hit the switch twice the first time you use it after loading a preset.

    Sounds like you are only connecting one of the two channels (left or right) from a stereo device. Your 3.5mm adapter is only passing the left channel from the iPad, and the right channel is getting sent to the ground of the cable, muting it.
