AFIII It’s been a sad week

Sorry for your loss, what an awful tragedy. Very emotive sound and playing. I can hear some Mark Knopfler in there.

Nirvana - 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Tone Match

I believe this one was done on Q1 or 2 but could be wrong. I'm currently on 5.03 and have no intention of updating as everything is too embedded to change now. A lot of the older songs are probably done on pre-Quantum firmware but I can't be 100% sure sorry. Feel free to message if you have more...

Dire Straits - "Money For Nothing"

Hey all - I've been absent for some time with illness and other BS but thought this was a preset people might find interesting - lots of people have been asking about this tone in various sub-forums. It's an odd tone for sure but I've basically followed the few bits of information out there...

    Silverchair - Frogstomp/Freak Show

Sorry for the late reply, I've only just seen this - this is the best I could come up with at short notice (I don't actually know the song sorry!) Hopefully gives you something to start with at least. My only advice is make sure the intro is played on a humbucker in neck position - chorus...

    Silverchair - Frogstomp/Freak Show

Silverchair haven't released an album since 2007 and I think he's just doing solo stuff now which basically sounds like terrible advert music to me - I would stay well clear! Amazing to think he wrote Frogstomp when he was 15 though - Neon Ballroom is probably my favourite album as it still had...

    Silverchair - Frogstomp/Freak Show

Given there seem to be a few similarly aged Axe FX users on here that probably had these albums as teenagers, I thought I would try doing some non-tone matched presets for these albums. Took a long time to get them right because the EQ profiles are pretty weird - you'll definitely have to adjust...

    ISIS's "Panopticon" tone. Any tips?

Going off the end of that first song, I came up with this. Nothing special but it's somewhere to start. There's loads of very harsh upper mids which are quite hard to replicate-there may be some IRs out there which have that sound like a K100-V30 mix? It's probably going to take a while to find...

Ah cool thanks man :) I'll see if there's anything else from that era I can work on.

    Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

Thanks for all the kind words :) Btw, If you're a Pearl Jam fan I've just a TM preset for Alive up on the blog.

    Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

Had a go at reworking an old preset I created when I first got my MKII AxeFX - it isn't 100% there but it's pretty close-I used pretty good stems for reference but trying to get through the wall of sound was pretty tough. Video: There are a few more recent presets/TMs on my site as well if...

Deftones - Around The Fur Tone Match

I can't say I have no - I actually found a preset that is very close already so just use that. It's the M80 Bleed preset that Guitarjon did a while back - that one gets very close. Think it's just a Recto1 amp model - maybe try the intro to 'You've Seen The Butcher' to get a TM...

Disturbed - "Down With The Sickness"

It is yes - there's no cab at all, it's just a TM block. I can never get a good sound from using a cab and a tone match block to be honest but some users can. Glad it's been useful! :)

A Perfect Circle - Billy Howerdel's tone investigating

That's odd - I just tried it from a 3rd party PC and it seemed to download fine. I'm not the most technical person so I'm not sure why it would add a .txt file extension. I usually upload from my macbook - not sure if that might affect it somehow? I can try sending them direct to you?

System Of A Down - Toxicity

Have a few new TM's on my blog - http://axefxpresets.blogspot.co.uk/ - all for free :) Think the System Of A Down one is probably of most interest but the others may be to a select few as well. SOAD - Toxicity: Alice In Chains - Them Bones: Failure - Fantastic Planet:

Why would I spend hours and hours getting a really good tone match and then mime it? o_O Bit of an odd comment.

Deftones - Around The Fur Tone Match

You don't technically need a proper 'stem' but the audio has to be as isolated as possible, otherwise you end up including loads of unwanted frequencies and the tone match becomes inaccurate. You won't find stems through any legal means - you'll need to get creative. However, there are plenty of...

Nirvana - 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Tone Match

Deftones - Around The Fur Tone Match

I kind of did it in two stages - I used some of the very limited guitar parts on the album to get gain and EQ correct, and then found a reasonable quality isolated track on YouTube to nail it. They get taken down all the time but I'm sure any keyword search will yield some results. As I put in...

Deftones - Around The Fur Tone Match

Hey everyone, I've been hard at work on more TMs and this is one of my favourites. I've done two separate presets, one using the Brit Pre (which is actually a more accurate TM) and one using the ENGL (slightly easier on the ear). One may suit your guitar better than another. Otherwise, adjust to...

    Megadeth-Countdown To Extinction Tone Match

Thanks everyone for your kind words, glad there are plenty of takers. Whilst I'll still be posting presets here from time to time, most of them are going to be available on a blog I just started so check that out from time to time if you can. It's mostly tone matches but plenty of other...

A Perfect Circle - Billy Howerdel's tone investigating

Do you mean the part at 0:20? If so, the closest I can get is a Ring Mod block at a fairly low mix - pretty sure that's Scene 2 in the preset. I guess once you start getting into plugin territory it gets increasingly difficult to replicate.

A Perfect Circle - Billy Howerdel's tone investigating

I realise I'm very late to the thread but I recently made a preset for Mer de Noms using the HBE V1 with a TM block and a Splawn Nitro. You can find a demo video and download link here: http://axefxpresets.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/a-perfect-circle-mer-de-noms.html

Faith No More - The Real Thing Tone Match

Hey everyone, I put up a preset for this quite some time ago and decided to revisit it. I think this is much improved and hopefully any fellow FNM fans will enjoy using this preset. It's using the IIC++ amp model just for a bit more gain and bite over the old USA Lead amp model I used before...

Disturbed - "Down With The Sickness"

Thanks :) It's close enough for me anyway - it sounds like there's at least three or four guitar tracks on the album so the enhance block certainly helps get that bigger sound.

Disturbed - "Down With The Sickness"

I decided to revisit this tone match I did ages ago with firmware Q3.03. You've heard this song a million times and they're far from my favourite band but equally, it's pretty fun to play. Hopefully this might be useful to you if you play in a covers band or enjoy playing along to this album...

    Megadeth-Countdown To Extinction Tone Match

Sorry this is for a MkII Axe FX 2 - I don't think FracTool can convert it, though it's not something I've used so can't confirm. I'm sure there's more info on the forums. Thanks

    Megadeth-Countdown To Extinction Tone Match

I'm not using any cab block - just a Tone Match block. I guess if you were doing it without a tone match block you'd need something with V30s and a lot of careful EQ'ing.
  35. hwplainview

    Megadeth-Countdown To Extinction Tone Match

Here's the slightly tweaked version. It's riddled with mistakes but hopefully gives you an idea of the sound in context a little better.

    Megadeth-Countdown To Extinction Tone Match

    Megadeth-Countdown To Extinction Tone Match

Metallica - Load album tone match

It's weird - I swear I hit the strings as hard as I can (up to the point they start going out of tune) but it looks like I'm dusting them for finger prints on video! Something to work on.

Metallica - Load album tone match

Thanks :) I haven't quite been able to nail the low end with the tone on that album but it's close enough for me. I also found Load and Re-Load have a lot LESS gain that I initially thought - just a tip if anyone is creating their own patches.

Metallica - Load album tone match

Doh, you're right that would probably help... :)

Metallica - Load album tone match

There's been quite a few threads recently about the Load sound so I thought I would share my attempt as well. I thought I'd use one of the lesser known tracks from the album as well, Wasting My Hate as it's short and sweet. Enjoy :)

    5 Minutes Alone, (Tonematch)

Sure thing - I don't think this sounds any better per se, it's just adjusting it to my guitar/taste. I think it sounds slightly fuller as I'm using a Bill Lawrence L500 (or whatever they're called-basically the Dimebag pickup). Anyway, you did the hard work so thanks! :)
  44. hwplainview

    5 Minutes Alone, (Tonematch)

Have had a chance to play this now and it's great work - really got that smoothness of the distortion nailed. I made a few small tiny changes to suit my guitar but that's it. Made a very short clip as a demo :)

    IR noob question

Using an IR without a mic is probably a more accurate representation of the cab but, as has already been suggested, use your ears. As a very general rule of thumb, the SM57, R121, and the U87 mics are probably the most common mics that are used in studios in the rock/pop genres. Each has their...

ML Bulb Zilla preview - high gain, medium gain and clean examples using multiple IRs - PRESETS ADDED

    Opinions on Mix please

Hey Narsh, To my ears, the drums need some more work. I can't really hear the kick drum at all and the hi-hat/cymbals have too much high end in them/possibly too high in the mix-they have that 'splashy' sound to them. I suspect the kick drum is getting lost because of the low end from the...

Little demo of the Ownhammer "Heavy Hitters Collection" and JCM 800.

Awesome sound Tony - for some reason my JCM 800 sounds are always a bit weak and loose, this sounds incredibly tight and well defined. Clearly I need to look into the OH HH collection...and practise more! Thanks for sharing :)

Riff Medley / Zilla Cab Pack Beta

Awesome work dude - these Zilla cabs sound a little less 'brittle' and a little more natural than many of the traditional 'metal' cabs. Looking forward to ML's pack :) Always best to be patient for the best result. I think everyone has got used to things happening so quickly from Fractal that...

ML Metallica IIC++ Preset (Quantum 3.03)
