    As everyone mentioned, make sure the right output is routed, beyond that, some people will upload presets with assigned expression pedals (i.e. volume) and if you don't have one, it may show as "off" depending on how they assigned it, so just "shunt" the volume block.

    For me, depends on the “openness” I want. I use pedals to push a semi cranked amp into more compressed drive, or to shape the EQ of the amp drive differently. Or pedals into a clean amp to shape the tone differently. For dirty rhythm sounds, Ive always been satisfied with just amp drive.

    Have you tried the multi-band compressor? Seems like that would make the most sense? Maybe use an EQ in Solo to find the frequency you want to De-Ess, and then use the multi-band to duck it however much you need.
