I know you don't think it is, but it sounds like a ground loop issue between the FC3 and the amp. Quick and cheap - try using an Ebtech Hum-X between the FC3 (or amp) and the socket. Using balanced cables? Any fluorescent lights nearby? A fish tank? The FC3 isn't siting on top of the amp...

New USB cable is a great start. Make sure OS is updated, and all drivers are up to date as well. (Drivers can be wonkee sometimes, and OSX can be tricky with some peripheral drivers). I would still confirm if the FM3 mains out to 108s experience these issues without any connection to the PC...

Baritone guitars... And, go!

I have a Trussart baritone on the way. There is nothing not to love about that sonic range. Surf, Spaghetti Western, Desert Rock, Ambient ... nothing not to love. Do it. Danelectro makes a cheap one if you are on the fence.

Harley Benton - have I been living under a rock?

I'm glad that there is a reasonably priced instrument line available for people that want to play and not spend a lot of money. Making anyone interested in learning spend thousands of dollars is no doubt limiting the potential market. Once upon a time there were Sears and the like catalog...
