Anyone successfully emulate a double tracked guitar?

I've tried just about all these techniques simply to give myself a beefier tone when playing solo and practicing. I'd never use them if actually tracking. Nothing beats or substitutes for real multi-tracking.

Just watched Lamb of God for umpteenth time

I've been a huge metalhead my entire life but have never identified with the whole moshing thing and general disrespect you find at most metal shows. It's unfortunate... I enjoy watching bands perform but have no desire to be knocked around and/or dodge cigarettes and beverages flying...
