Windows 11

There's a GREAT new issue with a recent Win11 update where startup programs don't load for a minute. They've introduced some delay that no-one seems able to get around with a registry update.
I JUST ran into that. I have Audiogridder autostart on two laptops and I noticed lately they don’t start for quite a while when not long ago they started up literally right after booting.

For me, MS operating systems are the last thing I would trust.

That's why I regularly make complete image backups, e.g. with Rescue Zilla, and usually only use them in VMs, as recovery is faster there.

If you look at the history of MS, 99% of innovative operating systems have been copied, or if others could do it better, they were taken on by the company.

Atari, Commodore, Apple, and others had already demonstrated back then that things could be done better.

Under the hood, processes are shifted around to give users the impression that the new OS is faster, and it's been spruced up with a taskbar and a menu that is now centered. And that's not even mentioning the self-promotion in the OS.

Nevertheless, Intel, IBM an MS they have become an industry standard.

This also shows that the more people engage with and use a different operating system, the more interested the industry and manufacturers become in adapting their products to it.

MS ceo got 15000 people fired.
On this picture, i think he's telling us something

Wow, the new File Manager is absolute trash. If you right-click it brings up a menu. Among the items is "Show more options". If you click this it simply brings up the Windows 10 menu and almost everything is duplicated from the initial menu. WTH is the point?
Yep, that's complete nonsense. Otoh, having tabs in a single window is a huge win.

I had almost no problems with Vista. I've always been lucky like that...
Regarding Win11, however, both my luck as well as my patience have just run out.

My 9070 XT's drivers suddenly won't load any more. Well, technically they do, but they start timing out/crashing at the log-in screen, by the time I've reached the desktop, they are running in a reduced resolution/functionality mode and the Adrenaline stuff won't open.

Countless trials of different ways to clean up and reinstall led to nothing but a wasted Sunday. Reinstall time. But only because I'm a bit scared to jump into Linux without a "Plan B". Even if said plan now feels more like stowing a cyanide vial under your tongue.

Calling the current state of Windows "a steaming pile of dogshit" would be an insult to the whole world's dog population, as their "output" is of a consistently higher quality than MS's.

Oh, by the by: After I gave up and left my PC in its unfixed state on Sunday evening, spending time with my Mac, I went to work, thinking "When I come home, I'll boot into Windows one last time to back some stuff up, and then it's Linux time."

Somebody at MS must've heard that. Because it suddenly decided to work again. It shifted the colour profiles from my monitor to my TV, but otherwise it's fine again.

This could happen again at any time, so this weekend, I am jumping ship to Nobara Linux, for now. For gaming and learning.

Because of Linux itself or because of my specific choice?

I'm at the point where if I have to have problems (inevitable in life), at least I want them without Windows.

I want to love Linux. I tried Ubuntu then EndeavorOS for a couple years. Dual booting into Windows 11. I was able to do most things I wanted in Linux but it was such a HASSLE to get things to work sometimes. I have programming experience but I'm not a professional programmer, and it still troublesome for me.

Never got my FM3 to work. My brother, a senior programmer, was able to get Axe Edit or Axe3 to work on Linux but it took a lot of work. I would just switch to Windows to mess with FM3 edit. But since I have a Nvidia GPU for gaming, switching between Linux and Windows regularly made my computer shut down. Had to keep installing different drivers. Very annoying.

Windows 11 isnt that bad on the surface but after a while it starts to show it's ugly side. Lesser of two evils I guess.

Un-fricken-believable what a joke this OS is. I pinned some items to the taskbar. Rebooted and they were no longer pinned.

Right-clicked on the desktop shortcut and selected "Pin to Taskbar". Clicked the shortcut on the taskbar and it created a second shortcut on the taskbar.

So I closed the program and unpinned the shortcut from the taskbar. Launched the program from the desktop shortcut and then pinned it to the taskbar. Closed the program and the taskbar shortcut icon changed to a different icon.

Who the heck is writing the code over there? This is BASIC OS functionality and it feels like it was written by someone who just graduated from ITT Technical Institute.

Apparently AI is going to be writing most of the code in the future. The scary thing is what will AI use to learn from? If it learns from studying the MS code base we're just going to get more of the same clunky, half-assed junk like Windows 11.

Dang, I’d be mad too if mine acted like that. Wonder what the deal is…mine does things like that perfectly.
