FM3 Firmware Version 10.0 public beta

I tried setting my foot switches to toggle between scenes with the Mini-Display Label set to Current Name for each switch. I did this for all three switches, with the Tap function for switch one toggling between Scene 1 and 4, switch two toggling between Scene 2 and 5, and switch three toggling between Scene 3 and 6. The problem, that occurs that when I click a switch to toggle the scene, all three switches display the current name of the selected Scene.

I have never tried this before, but this can't be right. It seems to me that the three switches should behave independently, and name displayed on the LCD should not change to the Current Name value of the selected Scene on all three LCDs. Only the LCD for the selected switch should change its name to the Current Scene for that switch.

I don't know if this has always been this way, or whether it's a bug or simply an oversight in the programming.

Hope this makes sense...

I suffered from missing USB audio problem with macos and Logic Pro X. I then installed beta FW 10 version, and it fixed the problem. Now after a while i was brave and i updated my mac to 15.5 Sequoia -i have problems again. FM3 is recognized as input device, but i get no sound and there is white microphone (with orange background) in upper right corner that keeps blinking on and of. Something is not working...

Quick update as problem is fixed - i got this to work by switching input output values on & off in macs "Audio MIDI Setup". This refreshed something and problem disappeared. Audio is now coming in!

No, that’s not right. I also use the 1/4, 2/5, 3/6 scene toggles on switches 1,2 and 3. I have for years and it’s never done what you are describing. Sorry I don’t have an immediate solution. I feel like it should be an easy fix tho, prob a configuration issue. Try looking in the Footswitch Funtions Guide. https://www.fractalaudio.com/fas-ffg

I think it might be a bug with the beta. @m_brown @Admin M@ see post #491

It is 100% functioning as designed.

There's only 1 current scene.

The switches are all set to display Current, so that's what they will show.

Same behavior when using Current for preset switches, too.

This has been discussed ad nauseam when it was added.

Well, that's not a great implementation IMO, but using Destination Name will suffice. Carry on.

The general mode of operation for switches is that the switch label tells you where it's going or what it's doing, not where it already went or did.

I get your opinion and others share it as well...

FM3 Firmware Version 10.0 public beta is now available for download:
https://www.fractalaudio.com/downloads/firmware-presets/fm3/10p0/fm3_dsp_rel_10p00_beta_1.zip

This firmware is release candidate. The large number of updates, changes, and new features included call for a final beta period before official release, however. We don't anticipate a long beta period. Feedback on the new items and updates or issues you encounter is appreciated here.

An updated version of FM3-Edit is required for use with this release:
https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fm3-edit-1-07-07-to-support-fw-10-00-public-beta-1.213089/

A Dyna-Cab update is required if updating from an FM3 firmware version prior to 9.00 Beta 1
The required Dyna-Cab file is included in the 'zip' file for this release.
If you are upgrading from a version older than 9.00 Beta 1, please follow the instructions in the Firmware Update guide PDF that is included to install the firmware and Dyna-Cabs. If you are updating from 9.00 beta 1 or higher, Dyna-Cabs do not need to be reinstalled.

Preset CPU and Factory Presets
This firmware version includes major improvements to sound quality and performance. As a result, some presets now require more CPU. Older Factory Presets may exceed 80% CPU usage, especially on the standard (non-Turbo) FM3. To address this, new Factory Presets have been created for firmware 10.0+. These are not installed automatically and must be downloaded separately:

Hello. What is the correct firmware update order? firmware 10, edit and 10 factory presets? edit, firmware and presets? THANKS

Hello. What is the correct firmware update order? firmware 10, edit and 10 factory presets? edit, firmware and presets? THANKS
1. Backup FM3
2. Update FM3 Edit
3. Update Firmware
4. Update Dynacabs if Required
5. Update Presets.
6. I also do an immediate Backup of the FM3 with FW 10 (before trying any presets) so i have a known clean copy to go back to.

Best of luck, it sounds FAntaStic.

7. Refresh After New Firmware (RANF - it is in the manual!)
8. Resave all Presets (including your own) under the new firmware - kinda implied in Tim's post above, and a helpful process here:

https://www.fractalaudio.com/tmp/Manage-Presets-Save-All.mp4

9. Review your own presets and tweak to taste. Check reverb balances, and tones/eq's - the modelling is different. Change the input pad if needed.
10. Enjoy!!! It does indeed sound fantastic :)

Good news, I reinstalled 10b and this time without editing FC's and Controllers it's working as expected with regards to scene switching times, so maybe just left in a bad state after failed Controller/FC edits last time, perhaps in combination with high CPU on un-adjusted for 10b prior 9.3b presets which then were slow to switch scenes after lowering CPU?

Anyways, reverbs and compressors sound great, amps sound and feel great (!), nice update!

Hi, I have an FM3 - sounds a lot better with the new firmware and the functionality and additions are great. I seem to have totally lost the FX loop functionality though? With several different presets and trying several different pieces of gear in the loop, no sound is generated, has something fundamental changed that I need to adjust?

In principle the FX loop is pretty simple right? Input 1 -> Output 2 then Input 2 -> Output 1, that worked before, has something changed?

Make sure you have the Output 2 knob turned up.

Have you been able to play for a long period without the issue reoccurring? I get maybe 30 minutes before the USB starts to act weird. The meters in FM3-Edit will show the signal coming in but there's a pause before it shows up in Garageband or Ableton.

Check your Audio I/O settings in the setup menu ... for many users it appears that the Input Pad settings changed - it may be that other parameters have inadvertently changed here too.

As @Rex says, make sure the volume is turned up, and make sure the I/O settings in the Send and Return blocks are correct.

Switch your FM3 to the Meters View screen - you'll be able to see Peak Meters for every block of the Grid - this can show where audio is either low in level or not present at all - giving you a hint as to where to look next.

Did you RANF, and re-save all your Presets under the new firmware?

I use the loop for tube gear with 10b, no issues?

HW Volume 2 up, plus check levels bypass status for In 2 and Out 2, and Setup/Audio.
