Fender FR-12 preamp mod : The Hissterectomy

I ordered an FR12 in November and just got it this past week. It is so quiet I suspect they silently fixed the issue. I was expecting much worse. I did have a friend drop by who also got an FR10 - and his was about 3-4 db louder than mine - but not bad too bad.

So my friend brought over his HX Effects - it worked just fine. So I've verified with 2 other devices there is no noise VS when I'm using the FM9. I wish I could verify with another amp but the 2 I have are all I can do. I think I'm done here - out of ideas.

They just said buy a (humbuster) cable basically. I'm not going to - I know what that scenario sounds like and this isn't it. I shouldn't have to buy special cables to make this work when other gear works fine.

It's (FM9) already plugged up to power but not switched on - the click you hear is me stepping on the amp channel switcher - I have one channel with the volume down and one up so I can silence it. The second is just me physically unplugging the FM9 from the wall.

Although - if you read his post closely he says only effects loop - whereas I'm going into the front (though I hear the noise with both) and he says it's dead silent when hooked up to a cab - and that's where I hear it. He also says it's quiet and to me it's very loud.

That is very similar - but I tried it into a Boss Katana and it does the same thing (front and effects loop). I wanted to use my Katana as a power amp so looks like that's a no go. I wish I had a (good) amp to try with it - but I don't.

I appreciate the recommendation - but I have 2 rack mounted Furman power conditioners plugged into separate outlets in my studio desk. I've tested with those and stand alone outlets with the same result. I also have a drawer full of power cables and I've tested separate ones of those as well...

I don't have a Humbuster cable on hand but I tried a TRS cable from the FM9 to the amp - didn't make any difference. I just borrowed an MX5 from a friend and hooked it up the exact same way with the same amp and all the same cables and it works just fine with no noise. Another friend is coming...

Yes the patch doesn't seem to matter. Honestly I thought it was the monitor when I turned the FM3 off and it didn't go away - but when I unplugged it from the FM3 it did. I'll do some more testing.

Kemper was cool at first to me too - but it did get tiresome trying to find a good profile. I did really like their effects minus the drives - they just sit nicely and aren't harsh or anything.

What about this: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PowerPlay1 Wouldn't that work perfectly? You can go mono XLR or stereo out of the AX8 and into the amp. It runs off batteries. Belt clip. No need for any other special cables other than what you'd normally use.

AX8 + Yamaha AG06

I spoke with Chris from AxeFxTutorials and he suggested I start this thread to help others. He said he wasn't using the AG06 much anymore but Yek does. Maybe he'll chime in at some point.
