If I were FAS, I would want to capture Dyna-Cabs for the meat and potatoes/primary cabs (4x12 Recto Slant, 4x12 1960TV, etc.) and mics (SM57, R121, C414). Then let 3rd Party IR vendors do the more exotic/secondary cabs (1x12 Custom D120 — AB, 4x10 Bassguy B+G — VH, 4x12 Mar-CB Lyn — OH, etc.) and mics (e609, MD421, M160, U87, etc.). AKA, FAS follows the KISS method, and 3rd party vendors can get buck wild. FAS has already provided Dyna-Cabs for some of the rarer/less popular cabs/amp models (1x12 Hot Kitty, 2x10 Super 6G4, etc.), so who knows what their plan is!
I'm wondering if 3rd party IR vendors will have to option to use more than 1 mic type. Will the FW be able to say "Dyn 1, Dyn 2" or "SM57, MD421"? Or will the 3rd party vendors also be limited to just one nondescript mic type?
When I mix IRs, I always use 2x mic types; 1x Dynamic + 1x Ribbon. I don't use Condensers. It would be great if we could have access to these 6 extremely popular mics:
Dynamic: SM57, SM7B, MD421, e906
Ribbon: R121, M160
Dyn+Rib Combos: 57+121, 57+160, 7B+121, 7B+160, 421+121, 421+160, 906+121, 906+160
Dyn Combos: 57+7B, 57+421, 57+906, 7B+421, 7B+906, 421+906
Rib Combos: 121+160
No matter what approach FAS & 3rd party vendors take, I'm excited to see what's to come.
