The Mother of All Effects Blocks Thread (Multi-Model Edition)

Ok I made a "freeze" block for my jazz preset I was making on my FM9 Turbo MKII. Should work fine for fm3/fm9/axefx3. I was trying to go for that old school dry and darker sounding ehx freeze type sound. You have to use a expression pedal in ext 1 / pedal 1 for the reverb mix and stack / hold, or change the modifiers to whatever pedal input you have to turn the freeze on/off! This works best in parallel as the name suggests. Change the mix parameter if the value is too high for you.

COOL TIP: You can stack notes / chords as well by parking the expression pedal at half way and then just stack notes or chords one at a time and then once done put the expression pedal all the way toe down to keep it frozen there! You can also slightly bring them in with a small volume swell by parking the expression pedal halfway then hit a note or chord then put the expression pedal all the way toe down and then back off halfway and hit another note or chord and repeat.

FIND THE FRACTAL VP4 VERSION BELOW!

Now go add a nice freeze block to any of your presets :D

I was trying to go for a vibe like this

Ok here is the VP4 PARALLEL FREEZE block version just like the one above for the fm9/fm3/axefx3. I copied my block settings from fm9 turbo mkII over to vp4 and sounded pretty much the same! Enjoy! :D Same instructions apply when it comes to using expression pedal for it.

Third time pinging @iaresee to see if we can get this multi block thread pinned at the top of the VP4 preset section too please :P lol.

Ok here's a multitap delay block with the quad-tap delay.

I call this one "The Story Teller" because... well it sounded like she was telling me a story :P

I made it for FM9 turbo MKII but should be fine on any fm3/fm9/axefx3.

I also copied my settings over to fractal vp4 and turned it into a block as well for it. However there seems to be a slight sound difference going on for some reason.

The fm9 version sounds sweeter and more alive to me. The vp4 version sounds great but it seems like it lacks the reverb/diffusion as the fm9 one so I jacked up the diffusion double the amount on the vp4 to try to match but something just not matching right.

Listen to a sample below. First take is the FM9 version and second take is the VP4 version.

I wonder if it's due to my vp4 being connected via spdif to my fm9 and using output/input blocks to engage it in the signal path.

Any insight or info on why this is going on @FractalAudio / @Admin M@

The difference is probably just Mix. Since the VP4 is designed primarily for use in front of an amp, it uses a slightly different mix law for time-based effects -- like most pedals. Otherwise, all of the most meaningful perceptible change happens in the first 0–10%.

Thanks! :] Would be super cool if one day you all found a way that we can share blocks from FM family to VP4 and vice versa!

I did this but with reluctance. The VP4 block files are completely incompatible with the other hardware. Confusion may be the result.

Thank you! Well as long as people put in what it goes too, then shouldn't be no confusion hopefully OR do what I do. I put "VP4" along with the file name to make sure they know it goes to vp4 only.

However, the way it looks in here, the only traffic will probably be me haha.

Even without the "VP4" Fractal-Bot will run a pre-flight check and refuse an attempt to send the VP4 presets to the modelers.

A worse situation is when someone builds a preset on a FX3 Mk II Turbo and maxes out the CPU and then doesn't say. It'll load on an FM3 Mk II but it'll peg the CPU %, which is a very rare occurrence.

Ok here's a new one for you all. I call this one "LONELY FOLLOWER". The block is based on the crystal echoes pitch block.

You need a expression pedal set for external 1 for fm3, fm9, axefx and pedal 1 for vp4 in order to use this. It's also stereo so best to place the block after your amp/cab but experiment where you like it.

Basically just a normal like stereo / ping-pong delay but when you press the expression pedal down, everything slows down which gives you the impression that your delay got deep and dark and slurring under your normal playing. Also kinda gives it a vibe where you slow a record/vinyl down too!

0:00 to 0:30 is the Fractal VP4 and 0:37 to the end is FM9

LONELY FOLLOWER with piano sample coming from my ableton move, with some cloud, cirrocumulus reverb :D

Again, I couldn't get a 100% match between the two even though I tried like hard, but something seems to be off between the two on the tempo and feedback side but I got them close enough.

Have another! Nothing too special but I was watching Johnny Winter concert the other night and it sounded like he was using a phaser as a auto-wah type effect so i dug into the fm9 and created my own that I like a lot!

This will work for fm3, fm9, axefx 3

This example is just a quick sound test with supro 1296 guitar and fm9 with the phaser block

Here's one called PHAT for FM9, FM3, AXE-FX 3.

This one is a SYNTH block acting like a PITCH block.

So for those who keep asking for another PITCH block... Well the SYNTH block has you covered for some things!

This does some very cool octave / harmonizing with your original tone. Remember it's monophonic though, so NO CHORDS ALLOWED!

You have 3 voices to play with and 5 oscillators to change your tone with (not counting the 2 noise ones)

PHAT block is set up for voice 1 using SAWTOOTH at 100% and -12 SHIFT for a low end phat octave!

Add a sine or square or whatever to the other voice 2 and to voice 3 at like 75% and 50%

Adjust the SHIFT parameter to something like -5 for voice 2 and 7 for voice 3 and you're in EXTRA PHAT land!

The Mix parameter is set at 25%. Just enough to get a taste of the synth tone along with your guitar tone. Adjust to your taste!

Sounds best when you put the PHAT block before the amp.

ENJOY THE PHATNESS! :D

Been looking for something like this - I’m not savvy enough to do it myself so I thank you greatly for this!
