Not holding out that this is going to be anything epic. I got the chance to see them back in the 80's a couple times and it was worth the admission. While I appreciate the possibility that these guys miss playing live so much that they're willing to do it one more time there are a few things that make me feel this isn't going to be anything special. These guys are like 10 years older than me, I can only imagine how tough it may be on them to get this done. I recall watching a doc somewhere, don't recall which one it was but it was several years ago. They were talking about the possibility of hanging things up back then. Alex had arthritis and was on the fence about touring again, Neal's feet and overall health were taking their toll on him. I think most of us can agree Geddy's voice isn't close to what it was as well. Add on top of that they mention they're going to hand over some keyboard work etc. to other artists so they can basically hang out together on stage and it's starting to sound like an "old man's" tour where one may get the impression that it's like the las vegas version of a once great act. The kind where rather than paying close attention to cues, each other and the overall show they're presenting it's more like they''re just having fun, waving to the audience, cracking jokes while playing etc. That kinda ruins it for me anyway. You could see them doing a bit of that in some of their last few concert videos.
Their music will be around forever and there will always be new Rush fans. But this feels like it could end up being something like Ozzy's last tour where he sat in a chair and barely had the breath to get through a set. I appreciated what he did for the fans, but if you go there hoping to see something anywhere close what what they were I think some will be disappointed. Kinda like how when I saw them in the 80's and they were really into playing their music and they sounded tight. It felt like a real show. I'm not feeling like it's a money grab, I believe these guys wanna keep playing forever and there'll always be people wanting to see them but I'm not thinking they're going to go out with a bang here, more like a whimper considering arthritis, old vocal chords and half the band being kids with some of them hidden in the dark so all we see are the two guys left on stage.
I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this happen before. Like painfully watching Billy Joel try to sing as an old man. Sounded terrible. Never saw him again after that. There's just too many issues that ruined the experience.
