Okay, guess this one

The B+ and screen grid calculations. It's a very complex modeling problem. When the supply sags the power tubes clip earlier but the gain of the tube is unaffected. However, the plate current is a function of the control and screen grids. The screen grid is derived from the B+, either through a resistor or a choke, so ultimately the gain IS affected by the supply but not directly.

Cool to know the AFX can/will model to this level; I enjoy these disclosures. I'm guessing seeing Guthrie play inspired your epiphany heh.
 
Yeah the first clip sounded more open and dynamic. Perhaps a bit more presence. Once again, the body of the tone between the two is down to splitting hairs. Dare I say, "the satisfaction is unanimous?"

I hope your having as much fun with it as you seem to be. I'm liking this particular tone myself...
